holic trax off shoot monoklo hits a third firing release now with a new ep from verrina & ventura. verrina & ventura are an italian pair who make fresh house and techno sounds and run the all inn, only 300 and howl labels. they are busy people who put out a lot of music and here serve up some brilliantly unhinged sounds for this darker, more club focussed series. up first, metaluna is a freaky track with shimmering voices and prickly, ticking percussion all underpinned by warm belches of sub-bass. it s a late night cut with plenty of unhinged atmosphere in its glitchy grooves. ork is less kinetic and more settled in a bulky, heavyweight groove. scraping perc and icy hi hats bristle and brim as muted synth stabs bring some colour and soul to the party. the deep and delicious dhrawn has big techno hi hats and more glitching, patchy machine sounds all run through with warming chords. trilling vocals go off in the distance and the whole thing manages to be emotive and human as well as devastatingly direct and dancefloor orientated. last of all, nihil is another visceral track with industrial synths, scurrying bass and sliding drums that makes you want to jerk your body. this is a brilliantly off balance ep full of arresting and inventive grooves aimed squarely at the floor

siince the release of his debut album, substantial, in 2004, volker bertelmann � aka hauschka � has, slowly but surely, earned a remarkable reputation as a purveyor of imaginative, distinctive, prepared piano music. this isn�t, to be fair, a heavily populated field, but it�s one he�s made his own, and while some might have dismissed his work early on as a novelty, bertelmann has proven himself to be uncommonly inventive, coaxing ever more unprecedented, euphonic sounds and rhythms out of his instrument. even so, on what if � which finds him adding player pianos (also known as pianolas) to his armoury � bertelmann expands his range even further, defying expectations and delivering what is without doubt his most ingenious album yet.

im klanggarten is the very first release on frank wiedemanns newly established bigamo label by the musician, video artist, author and dj rainer buchmüller aka fred und luna. it began as an homage to german electronic music of the 70s and 80s known as kraut. however, rainer gives his style its own name: elektrokraut or krautelektro, in which he blends kraut elements, such as repetitive rhythms, with beautiful melodies and modern electronic sounds. this lp comes as a double vinyl in a gatefold cover!

�return to planet alpha� is a collection of elegant techno tracks which instead of following the now so popular dark and destructive path focuses on daily moods and airy atmosphere, which is closer to open air and lounge than to sweaty pits of contemporary rave. but that doesn�t mean that the twelve tracks are just indistinctive background music. for one thing, tyrel is a master of slick and tight beat foundations of kick drums and bass, often smoothed out with cool synth pads, onto which he layers all kinds of rhythmical chains, subtle melodic ideas and sounds ranging from vintage synths and industrial bits to organic textures and even field recordings.

repress alert: continuing to do great service to reissue culture, emotional rescue this time look to the nigh-on insurmountable back catalogue of late manchester-based producer muslimgauze, whose influence can be tangibly heard in the likes of shackleton. suns of arqa were equally enamoured with fusing the haunting qualities of middle eastern music with other styles, in their own case dub, and so their selection to remix a whole host of muslimgauze tracks made perfect sense. now the engrossing and otherworldly jaunt through distant lands enjoys a plush new vinyl release on which to truly enjoy the mixture of soothing and savage sounds.

it was originally recorded summer 1969 and planned for a full release, but it never happened, until now! one of the most exciting norwegian releases this year.
egil monn-iversen nearly perfect score borrows elements from john barrry and lalo schifrin soundtrack music, the opening theme song, sung by inger lise rypdal sounds like it could be a norwegian bond movie theme! key players are hired in from the late 60�s norwegian jazz-scene and you can hear early talents like jan garbarek and terje rypdal in full bloom! the result is a vivid soundtrack that could rank up with any good 60s 70s european groovy soundtrack score!

the cocoon recordings very own inhouse compilation series dots and pearls is back once again and takes us on a tour to the expected sounds of the upcoming spring season. frankfurt based christian burkhardt starts the selection of four exclusive and previously unreleased tracks. his -karambolage- breathes spring air and creates an early summer feeling par excellence. this tune will even turn gray and rainy april weather into bright sunlight. on spot with playful and positive harmonies and a very subtle 80 s synthie-pop flavour. this one here definitely makes us want more! next in line is argy, one of our most long standing cocoon recordings artists. his -how late it was, how late- has an undeniable 80s retro charm, too however it follows a completely different direction than burkhardts -karambolage-. this one refers strongly to an early 80s acid sound and reminds us of great productions such as -on and on- by jesse saunders. we cannot tell how far argy s reminiscences goes back but for the ones who know: -how late it was, how late- will bring you back to the great times of labels like rams horn and their rational youth s -dancing on the berlin- wall. brave and surprising at the same time and above all: -übercool-! with -baroon- by markus fix follows another acid track - however, this one has a far more epic flavour full of warm analogue strings and based on a hypnotic arrangement. fix -baroon- is defintely less retro than argys and burkhardts contributions - a deep tech house gem made for the first sunrises of the upcoming allnighter open airs. with -euphrasia- jim jules accelerates slightly but goes also deeper at the same time. his production follows the cinematic mood of markus fix but paints a darker picture. this one takes us on an intensive musical journey. deep, slightly gloomy and extremely hypnotic, -euphrasia- is almost captivating and bewitching and a perfect conclusion for this highly diversified fourtracker.

ashley woz westlake is back with a nod to the sounds that have inspired him. moving away from the moodier melodies of his more recent writing, new tracks celsius and grain mark an exploration into some new techniques and sounds. feeling inspired after listening to some old bits from the great terrance parker and kerri chandler, woz loaded a 909 into his rytm and a vox, bongos and chords into a sampler with the intention of working on his workflow and having some fun. the end product was celsius which was quickly snapped up by lobster boy and left woz needing a second track for the release. he wanted to roll with the similar theme of giving his take on an older sound, so using the same workflow on the drum machine and sampler he wrote a track heavily inspired by his love for electro.

art-aud is back to present his second release of the main series, after booming with the secret rave one. this release comes from a really important icon in the italian electronic-techno scene, a person that from the beginning of the 90s helped form what we enjoy now through his music, parties and writings. his name is andrea benedetti, aka sprawl. over the years he provided help to lory d in creating sounds never seen, founded his label plasmek, created a fanzine called tunnel and a distribution company with marco passarani, to name a few. this ep contains three tracks of pure electronic excursion and a remix by the rephlex-twins d arcangelo. the track electrome was originally released in 1994 on his own label and now, after nearly 23 years, sees the light again with a remaster.

powder is an up-and-coming producer from tokyo who had put out only a couple of releases on born free and esp institute when resident advisor featured her on the monthly series breaking through this past august. inspired by her first visit to cocktail d amore in 2015, she was so enthralled by the atmosphere, she started working on an ep for the label capturing her experiences from the party. the way powder interprets sound is extremely personal and unique. the opener hip has a driving sensual groove with hints of acid, seasoned with a good amount of loons and a mysterious foggy melody while heart sounds like an italo disco aural translation of a shojo manga script for a fun in the sun tinged story. on the flip side a slowmo industrial-meets-rainforest groove characterizes hole followed by hair in which she blends many layers of rhythm patterns together.
