figure 86 finds the label’s headmaster revisiting a dormant classic from 2005, delivering two extended excursions that pick up on the lunatic vibe instilled by the original while each mix provides for a uniquely new experience. sitting on the record’s a-side is the hardspace mix, a sparse and bone dry rhythmic affair, built around the originals characteristic cut-up vocal sample. a hammering thump carries along the track relentlessly, the air of oppression created only amplified by a heavy assault of clangig claps. the digital bundle comes with an even more stripped-back hardspace tool version, making it an excellent surprise to throw in and out of mixes. on the flip faki takes opportunity to show us one of his lesser known sides, taking time to gently develop this deepspace mix into a meandering meditative journey. trading in the vocal for a spaced-out synth opens the track up for the shifting tribal drums to truly work their magic and makes this piece of music feel equally mysterious as it sways with cosmic energy.

soul brother records are delighted to release for record store day 2017 one of the most elusive soul lp’s of all time, a truly holy grail album. susan phillips ‘soft sexy soul’ was recorded for sylvia robinson’s all platinum label 1971, pressed in small quantities. few copies have ever surfaced, it is so rare that many collectors doubt if it was ever released, it is not listed on discogs and it has never been recorded as selling on ebay. if an original copy were found today, it would surely sell for a substantial amount of money. the album has that classic early 70’s new jersey orchestrated soul sound. the album contains the in demand 2-step single ‘he knows my key (is always in the mailbox)’, the northern soul floater ‘answer to my prayer’, detroit sounding ‘please don’t keep me lonely’ the multi paced ‘where do i go from here’ and many great ballads like ‘he’s gone’ and ‘this i’ll guarantee’. demand from soul collectors is expected to be high and this album is likely to sell out quickly in the same way that last years ‘this is eleanore mills’ (also from all platinum) and all the previous soul brother records rsd releases have.

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent...house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 2 you ll find a high energy disco rub from parisian s3a, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from boddhi satva & sly johnson, a deep uk garage production from smbd (aka simbad), a dark and electronic affair from toto chiavetta (yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical bristol touch from newcomer marcel lune. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style

danilo braca (danyb) arrived in brooklyn from his native rome in 2011 playing around town, running sound at the output events & slowly allowing these edits - informed by many years working the floors across europe - to evolve on and off the dancefloors of new york city busted vol. 1 kicks off with something very special - a lovingly reworked, top secret, late 70 s jam favoured recently by none other than dj demi-god harvey anyone who s heard him play in the last couple of years will be familiar with the original version of this truly magical 13 minute slo-mo disco jam - it s a genuine holy grail moment ! having established that quality is of the upmost importance, busted continues with a beautiful duo of amended cuts on the flip. the uptempo, playful play me hard works the groove, hard ! while have a cake is a gloriously sleazy mid-tempo workout one hell of a 12- ladies & gentlemen !

over 3 years ago, casey tucker was thrust into the limelight after 15 years in the shadows. never truly getting the recognition for is detroit influenced and post rave sound in the 90s, for those that knoe reissued some of casey s classic material and unearthed some gems on dat in 2013. fast forward to the current day and a recent treasure trove was uncovered and some fresh dats untouched since the late 90s were discovered! ben promptly bought a dat player on ebay and shipped it to casey s home for the un-dusting to commence. fttk has worked with casey to present another round of authentic material spread across a further three eps. the track carpet dancer has been in demand since the fine balance recordings gained deserved attention. originally featuring as the a side on the very first fine balance ep, it evokes all of the emotions that caseys music can muster. juxtaposition is a slower groovy effort with meandering chords, trademark fizzy percussion and topped off with a lush string finale. whatever comes to mind rounds off the ep with a rolling percussive bassline, delicate arps and smooth sweeping pads.

the label is gradually working through colin’s revered back catalogue of cassette only releases, with previous titles the scythe and two nights selling out instantly. his run of half of a dozen home recorded, diy / minimal synth cassettes between 1980 and 1982 is rightly granted legendary status, influencing a slew of home produced diy experimental electronic artists and all attaining high collectors prices online for original copies. so these lp sets filled out with all manner of unreleased cuts, demos and excluded tracks truly are a treat.

following releases on hot creations and electronique, sean branton drops the sublime ‘night mode ep’, the first release on new vinyl-only house imprint virtue records.
the title track is an exquisite slice of melodic, emotionally-charged house music: a cut that will undoubtedly work on the dancefloor while its impact will remain with you for hours afterwards. ‘flights’ similarly works on multiple levels, with the powerful low-end throb providing a hefty backbone from which intricate rhythms and melodies are let loose. wrapping up the ep is ‘lead’, in which a wandering bassline and syncopated, bubbling synths give way to shimmering pads and ethereal sighs: a truly stunning climax to an ep that fittingly sets out both label and producer stalls for what promises to be a breakthrough year ahead.

hotflush welcome lara wehbie aka blursome to the ranks with her debut ep “rendition of you”. raised in north carolina and currently residing in brooklyn, wehbie has come a long way since beginning to work on music in 2011 as a way of channeling her diagnosed depression and anxiety. she describes her work as a transitional darkness, something she says defined her sound even before she could manage the software she uses to make it. in her own words, “rendition of you ep signifies major transitions in my life over the past year and how my environment truly played a role in handling situations. it s a testament to how much happier i am now than i used to be. i still struggle but i m truly thankful for the influences i have around me that have made me a better individual and artist.” along the way she has attended the red bull music academy bass camp in 2015, and after an appearance on scuba s 2016 fabric mix, she debuts on the label with an experimental six track ep. side a of -rendition of you- introduces listeners to her experimental use of vocals and heavy percussive influences from the left field genre. side b dives straight into dance floor material with pounding kicks and and interjecting vocals, but then slowly winds down into a more melancholic ending with piercing synths rattling through to the last drop.

phonica records is extremely proud to unveil the next release on its special editions imprint the stunning debut album vuduwave by niños indigo. niños indigo is the alias of audiovisual artist valeria hernandez. developed over the course of a month, the album was recorded in hernandezs home country of chile and recorded in a single week, resulting in a flowing, organic yet otherwordly listening experience. valeria explains: this record is a compilation of influences that have been inside me a long time, they keep coming back, afro drums, hindu instruments, candombe, psychedelia in south america. the rhythm of what surrounds me, the lake, the forest near where i live, the calm that surrounds it, the love of my friends and daughter. all of these feelings are what i like to put in my songs, a reminder to value the simple, to seize the resources that i have and to try and free myself of whats on my mind. originally released on digital and cassette label discos cetaceos in 2014, its a recording that truly deserves to be given a new lease of life on vinyl
