the voices of east harlem were an ensemble of vocalists who for just sunshine records recorded two albums under the direction of leroy hutson and curtis mayfield. “cashing in” is one of their most classic songs, a highly sought after track on original 7” fetches between £40 and £80 on the collectors market. first recorded and released in 1973 it has all the hallmarks of a leroy hutson composition and an established audience that crosses the boundaries of northern, crossover and modern soul. the song is coupled here with “take a stand”, another highly regarded and sought after modern soul room dance floor tracks, never previously released on 7” single until now

sometimes you have to put out a recdord for yourself. i first heard the east of underground lp from malcom catto in the jazzman records office in around 2000, after a couple of years i managed to pick one up for $100 from a soundtrack dealer who did not know what he had. now there is a few bangers on the lp but i have always thought is was the ballads that deserve the shine, so after a chat with egon at now-again i managed to sort out putting my two favorites on 45 for that end of the night slowy. hopeflly a few of you will enjoy this one also.

restless mashaits hailing from geneva are based around the core of jil and stuf. they released a sizeable amount of new roots classics throughout the 90s and 00’s. recently becoming active again, they are best remembered for the sessions they recorded at kingston, jamaica in the mid/late 90s with legendary musicians such as vin gordon, deadly headly and dizzy moore. the original releases have been since long deleted, but some are now unearthed thanks to partial records. * lion’ from 1996, features the legendary jamaican percussionist scully simms (who recently passed away) and was in every box of all serious roots selectors back then. now long deleted, this will fill in the gap for the many collectors who have this on their wants lists. dub lion’ is a different dub version to the one previously released in 1996.

wysing polyphonic has emerged from the wysing polyphonic music festival, now in its 8th year, which has programmed the likes of beatric dillon, elaine mitchener, hannah sawtell, helena hauff, holly herndon, james holden, karen gwyer, klara lewis, nik colk void and russell haswell, amongst many others, play at the cambridgeshire centre.

belgian producer krewcial is one of those producers who flits in and out of activity, and has done so since the mid 90s. lumberjacks in hell have called upon this slippery character to lay down some righteous grooves for their latest missive, and the results are sublime. -2u- is funky house how it should be done, all stomping drums, dreamy pads and soulful licks for the party people in the place. -heal- takes a more edited approach, holding back the bass for the ultimate dancefloor payoff. -hit me off- ramps up the jazzy keys for a detroit flavoured looped up throwdown, and then -the session- fires off one last sumptuous rip through peak time perfection

originally released in 1999, the cultish reputation of the mysterious blindboy s sole offering to the world has attained it a high second hand value, and so archeo recordings have done the right thing and actioned a reissue. ruckus in lo fi is steeped in balearic guitar tones, downbeat hip hop cuts and forays into sumptuous jazz funk. there s also a remix from joe morris, who fashions a brooding, epic remix of -i dream- loaded with simmering tension without losing the funky warmth of the original. with all kinds of mellow pouring out of this one, any stone cold chillers out there won t want to sleep on this one.

it s been a while since we last heard from juniper, the manchester-based duo who showed much promise with early outings on underground quality and the like. having previously popped up on a various artists 12-, they return to the ever-essential meandyou with a strong statement of intent, packing five tracks into an ep that presents their subversive style immaculately. -indigo children- is a head-turning cut that fuses uptempo motor city style electro and techno with industrial tones, while -life source negative- switches stance for a beautiful, craftily constructed drift into woozy deep house. every track is noteworthy on this release, balancing immediacy and warmth against experimental textures in a way that sits very comfortably on meandyou.

there’s a delicacy to the performances by toxe—not a fragile delicacy, but the kind you’d associate with an olympic rhythmic gymnast, whose twirls only seem light and graceful because of the immense muscular power behind them. “ - fader toxe’s horizons are very wide - she has deconstructed britney spears in -xic- for halcyon veil and with ‘still life’ (co-produced with mechatok) she caught the atttention of kenzo who used it as a score to their fw 2016 prints’ presentation and she has also performed alongside arca. toxe exhibits her relentless creativity as she edits and produces her own videos designs her visuals, exhibiting her relentless creativity which has lead to the excitement for the upcoming audio visual collaboration. the work, ‘morning story’, was created in collaboration with artist niclas hille. released on limited edition vinyl and also digitally in may 2017. the swedish musician crafts some of the most stomach-churning music productions, innovative drum patterns and lovelorn melodies in the scene. her debut ep ‘muscle memory’ was released on staycore in october 2015. on the five tracks of this release she clashed boulder-heavy rhythms against intricate details painting a picture very human and emotional, developing a very distinctive sound. the artist concluded 2016 with her first ever south-american tour. more recently, toxe played at berlin s ctm festival and meetfactory in prague. the swedish experimentalist has just been announced for a gucci x club to club night in milan, best kept secret and wiener festwochen s new hyperreality festival.

the continuum hypothesis by cleymoore and andrea cichecki stood proud as rotate s first collaborational ep, and despite being the imprint s first attempt on showcasing its roster through talent fusion, it served perfectly as a refined and spontaneous creation where both artists could easily be heard and identified. rotate s curatorial decisions seem to consistently circle around a small but extremely talent- ed group of young artists who aren t afraid of musical experimentation, with command of very personal visions of futuristic dance music, no matter the style. for the second collabora- tional ep, rotate hand-picked two young artists that share a strong vision about music, how it should be created and ultimately, experienced: greece s anestie gomez, and russia s denis kaznacheev.

chaim, chaim, life, we here in the disco halal hq are so happy about the fact you joined us, you are a true gentleman, a melodic genius, and really the missing link in the chain of our releases. for you who still haven t heard about chaim, we urge you to do a small search and find this universe, no less, of music that he has created on top labels such as bpitch, jeudi, and so many more. as a moroccan decedent chaim graced us with his fresh approach to north african music, summing it up with banging beats and percussions. the perfect circle, lives up to his name, it feels like chaim finally went back to where he has came from.

elliot adamson knows how good he is, which is equally as daunting as it is impressive. i’ve known him since he was the eager beaver barman at a place i’d play regularly in my hometown, who used to try and stick his demos under my nose, and now he seems poised for world domination with a who s who of the worlds biggest djs singing his praises. i’m so pleased i listened to those demos when i did. elliot has a startling breadth and depth of taste for someone of such tender years (although to be honest, people only mention other peoples youth when they feel like they’re getting old themselves). the ep elliot has provided for me me me covers a range of vibes which can be traced through mid 90s house, millennial techno and that current and contemporary feel that we’re all still struggling to name adequately. elliot is a real talent and i couldn’t be happier to provide a platform for what i feel is his most esoteric work to date, and a worthy showcase of his real capabilities.

the first clouded vision recordings release of 2017 comes from label owner matt walsh teaming up with stratowerx aka sam russo. the ep is completed with a remix from one of matt’s long-term studio partners, scott fraser, who makes a long awaited debut on the label. the three tracks were recorded over the course of 2016, with the two producers sending parts back and forth via email and the result sees a clear middle ground of minimalistic analogue electro and techno. scott’s surface pressure remix turns the first track “no function” into a dark drexciyan electro brooder, rounding off the ep very nicely indeed.

(get bad). the result? one of the most unlikely and essential party records of 2017. queen and house music: not necessarily the most obvious of bedfellows, but music for freaks has never been a label to take the path most travelled. over the course of their de-cades long journey the label founded by luke solomon and justin harris has released uni-quely idiosyncratic dance music, establishing the label as a go-to imprint for those seeking imaginative, unpredictable records that still undeniably work on the dancefloor. their latest release might well be among the most out-there of them all. originally released back in 1984,two sharp pencils (get bad) is a record by queen drum-mer roger taylor, featuring him on vocals as well as drums, bass & guitar. now brought bang up to date via a fully official and endorsed remix courtesy of anna wall & corbi, this overlooked album track looks set to become one of the summers most essential records. born and bred in the uk, anna wall is a dj, producer and label owner who is a key player in london’s underground house music scene. her label the bricks champions up-and-coming producers, while anna herself has djd all over the world, most recently for mixmag at pacha for their ims launch party. corbi is an ibiza-based dj and producer, a&r for the highly respected fina records and co-founder of melon bomb, a party and dj collective that has in the space of just a couple of years become one of the white isles most talked-about exports. having met while working at house giant defected records some years ago, anna felt that corbi would be the perfect studio accomplice to work on the remix of two sharp pencils.

brussels-based play label records step up for the second instalment of their la parenthèse house series. the four track ep will be dropping both digital and vinyl. on the a-side, interstate delivers some irresistibly groovy house vibes, followed by dancing your heartbeat, an even funkier track by folamour. the b-side is marked by a deeper and slightly more mellow atmosphere. through house resort by siler and flabaire, who have already been a part of the first la parenthèse house edition, one dives into a loungy warmth. the final track comes from san francisco born, berlin based producer yooj. he drops a multi-layered journey with a catching balance of emotional and percussion-driven energy.

next up on etruria beat, is the dutch duo hush & sleep who have been steadily making name for themselves in the past year. they deliver a stunning two tracks ep with farrago and marco effe on remix duty. the ep starts off on a joyous note with the track mirth. as this is an old english word for gladness, the main melody takes you on a carefree ride supported by a stomping kick and dreamy pads in the back. farrago takes a more stripped down approach with his version. he builds on the dreamy pad, making it serve as a warm blanket over his signature tight percussion. contradicting mirth, the second original slowly starts to drag you into a feeling of hysteria, hence the name. taking their signature kick as the foundation, hush & sleep use a haunting melody that lingers on in the back and sets an eerie mood. marco effe’s remix is a deep stunning techno groover. taking the main melody but twisting it into his own wonderful creation and sending you off on a journey into time and space.

la vida sigue igual’ is immediately a more physical affair than its predecessor, kicking off with the title track, a hard hitting percussive monster. the sparse simplicity of the machine gun synth work & monotone spanish vocals by mystic bill evoke classic 80 s industrial and art house dance tracks. we’ve included the instrumental version for adventurous djs who want play doubles. on the b-side are two versions of the track “animals”. version 1 explores the underbelly of ny with maniacal industrial rhythms and samples from diamanda galas and travis bickle (robert deniro) in taxi driver. version 2 ventures into dark freestyle territory, fueled by the underground energy of chicago’s warehouse and medusas clubs

proof of the rude health of the australian underground abounds with this new label from phile, who step out with a self-titled debut ep that tells you all you need to know. this is searing, brutalist techno crafted with invention and imagination - the dense crackle of the beats and scorched peals of synth on -found in blood- are a visceral force to behold. -marauder- is mellow by comparison, furnishing a minimal beat with live bass, dramatic string licks and steadily building atmospherics. the analogue dirt of -abhor- is positively evil, and that s before karina utomo s none-scarier vocals come into play. brimming with personality and demanding of your attention, phile made themselves a duo to watch in one fell swoop.

with -nekromant- the labelheads avidus are back on empore music, to present their darker side. the original consists of powerful arpeggiators rolling on a triplet-beat with a trancy vibe. the remix from jens-uwe beyer, formerly known as popnoname and as the curator of the label magazine, delivers a dreamy remix from the original with nice organic percussive elements. berlin based sebastian voigt, who has been making waves with his release on outcast oddity, completes the remixes with a straightened interpretation of the original back to a 4 to the floor beat, even adding even more drive and power if compared to the original. the ep comes full circle with a beatless -synthapella- from the original.

udacha just gets better and better with every release, branching out into ever more exciting shapes and styles beyond their house and techno foundations. on this album from indoor plants, wild fourth world visions collide with hardware processes in a dazzling display of transcendental music for those who like their thought-provoking tunes to pack a punch. the likes of -targitaus- deconstruct club music conventions in a quest for new rhythmic purpose, and yet the soundsystem pressure is expertly sculpted out of the daring shape of the music. elsewhere there s surrealism in abundance, as on the wonderfully weird -hunch-, and that s just scratching the surface of this truly essential lp.

coalmine records is excited to announce the limited-edition vinyl release of the artifacts’ highly regarded 2012 single, “easter,” which marked the group’s first official release in more than 15 years.
initially released as a digital single on april 3, 2012 (the tuesday before easter sunday), the track later appeared on coalmine’s decennary compilation, unearthed, which dropped may 13, 2014.
however you heard it—one thing was very clear: despite their time apart, artifacts emcees tame one and el da sensei sounded as fresh as ever on “easter.” the new jersey rappers’ venomous flows are boosted by the neck-breaking production of acclaimed north carolina producer khrysis. making the cipher complete is the turntable work of dj dutchmaster, who provides the scratch hook and outro cuts.
with this release, “easter” makes its grand return in the physical form in a limited-edition white vinyl pressing that also includes the instrumental track on the flip. it also takes things back to the old-school by way of a front jacket hole that exposes the label (the heads know what’s up).
