laying low in the cut after the much lauded >recession vol.1< mix album and his wrily-titled futuristic crossover >euro dance hit<, caravan label head honcho julian smith aka october returns from deep studio retreat with possibly his best, certainly most forward thinking dance floor record to date. as always october takes a big slice of his inspiration from the detroit techno sound of the 80s and early 90s which is clearly evident on the second cut on this plate in particular. however you simply cannot ignore his perhaps more euro-centric dub tendencies and broken-beat rhythm principles that always inform his overall composition and production ethos.

queen atom is back on serialism following on from the success of his recent >refuse greed< ep on dumb unit. blu samba confirms queen atoms talents to make dancefloors sashay to his beat and is strengthened with remixes from two highly rated artists who we welcome with open arms to serialism, ahmet sisman and seuil. coka zero has elaborate percussions and an elegant beat, while perlon-esque sounds melt right into the landscape, a beautiful master melody often wakes up bringing everything to a complete harmony. a driving groove with playful drum patterns and jazz elements really showcasing queen atoms production talents that have been demanding attention from his dumb unit releases and live performances around the world, most notably at watergate and city fox. fix ur mama is a very analog-sounding techno affair with that oscillating bass guiding the tune all the way through, with delicate percussions tempting and teasing us and filling all the interesting spaces. a deep track that forces us to move. coka zero gets remixed by ahmet sisman. as we all know, ahmet sisman brings a totally fresh and unrepenting take on all things house and techno! the groove in his remix is just a purely coherent rhythm, complemented by techy hihats and delayed vocals taking us deep and sexy breathy, fresh and groovy!. a track to cause serious damage! ahmets take will shake any building to its foundations with his unapologetic bomb! seuil then comes in with his own edit in his unique and elegant style that has been gathering followers from all corners of the globe. the drive and propulsive groove is there whilst he experiments with jazz keys off setting the original elements that are still in tact. as would be expected from this artist at the top of his game, his remix is sublime production with hints of romance, deep elements all playing around a beautiful groove. seuil bringing a masterful debut remix for serialism! a fabulous package from serialism!

minz aka michel sanchez-infante, is a dj, producer and live performer from the netherlands. after producing for a few years, his productions caught the attention of ripperton in may 2007. ripperton released minz debut >un/mute ep< and the follow-up >jade ep< on his perspectiv label. both were well received and followed by a string of remixes on labels like connaisseur, suruba and 2pin, and compilation tracks for meerestief and perspectiv. after taking some time out to work on his sound, minz is getting back up to speed with releases for suruba x and now for ransom note. his style is slowly shifting to a more housey and organic sound, while keeping the deepness, thoughtful composition and meticulous attention to detail. tracks like ganzfeld demonstrate how minz has the ability to create outstanding productions that grow slowly on you before knocking you off your feet. on remix duties is the illustrious lee jones. hot off his brilliant ep on cityfox, lee blesses ransom note with his indelible take on electronic music. as deep as it gets and with a powerful exploration of the original, lees remix of ganzfeld is stunning journey sure to set off the after party in all of us.

lil tony is hotter than hot. while starting to dj and produce years ago, tony has been a staple in the scandinavian club scene since the early 90s. an amazing dj (actually one of the favourites around the moodmusic hq) and a talented producer, tony started with the fbi project with roberto rodriguez and kimmo oksanen before dropping some serious damage on raw trax vol. 1 last year on moodmusic. caned by everyone from luciano (he edited his own version of semble) to dj hell, tonys raw grooves cut the crap and moved people when other producers had to take a leak. hardworking, never forgetting his gentleman manners, tony is here to stay and raw trax vol. 2 is a bold new statement, and his best work to date. solid state takes the classic detroit influenced drum machine vs piano theme a step forward, a impeccable jam of 15 minutes with the beat keeping the pace, this has been roadproofed the last 6 months to good effect. the b-side karamba is a dry, tight driven tech-workout, perfect mixtool for the deeper techno as well as housier sets. it just works well. the closing checkpoint charlie is a tale of >lost in helsinki< – dark mean bass wanders around and gives space for the chuggin main line, monotonic body music at its best.

return to form (take that, haters!) hits at the body repeatedly, slamming away with a lack of abandon and a new sense of protocol. major stars are known for being psychedelic rock journeymen (and journey lovin women), but of late, their rocks psych roots seem to be dyed platinum white, with a truckers cap shoved on top of the whole mess. its jukebox ready hard rock with a hallucinogenic edge, sure ? or perhaps its just the impact of their triple guitar git down, causing your head to throb with concussive force? dont worry, long time star children ? these guys still jam, but they ve got short numbers too, and wailing, roadhouse vocals sailing over the punch ups. a terrific variety, but a return to form? pffft! what form? these guys have been in plasma state forever! whatever form it takes, thats what it is. and major stars are presently shining on in white dwarf style ? compacted, but with a violent gleam.

kink has built up quite a reputation recently with some amazing work on rush hour alongside neville watson, and two slamming old-school-vibed remixes on liebe*detail. now we present his debut original track for the label, and >bitter sweet< really shows off his tender, heartfelt approach to house. raw, beautiful, melancholic and spine-tingling, this is modern house with a harmonious nod to the pioneers, connecting with us on deeper levels and remaining within us forever.

after its first release rework closer moved bass cadets and techno heads alike, the label returns with some fearless offbeat pressure in round two. a side sun touch aint about cherishing the first sunshine in springtime – rather like a fierce ray of light hitting you right in the eye, darkening everything for a moment. killer broken beats, rumbling subs and a gloomy atmosphere run the program until a nasty acid line takes over and funks things up even further. drain on the flip continues where closer (ams01) left off, the warm synth blanket this time appearing as a melancholic drone sequence over beats syncopated to the max. bonus cut untitled is the 2006 original of a tune bass music heads will be familiar with by now... beats from the machines, heartfelt lfo’d chords and arpeggiated bleeps round off this uncompromising twelve.

fresh 2010 repress !! historia y violencia is a new project exploring the hispanic roots of santiago salazar (dj s2) and j. mendez (silent servant). both producers dissect their latin upbringings as a cinematic theme to create snapshots of the day-to-day blood and sweat that has shaped them as individuals. the sound takes cue from detroit, berlin and chicago to create classic, deep dancefloor tracks. santiago salazar started djing in the early 90s inspired by mix tapes his brother was bringing back from the gay underground scene in los angeles. his style has always been a mixture of house and techno. after moving to detroit, santiago began his music training with mike banks, label founder of underground resistance. he is also half of the duo ican (ican productions / planet e) who have been responsible for some killer techno releases. the central american born j. mendez cut his teeth as jasper in the late 90s/early 2000s, running the california-based cytrax label. a veteran dj from the age of 16, he has performed worldwide in clubs from berlin to osaka. along with technical wizards kit clayton and sutekh, he helped shed light on the small but influential minimal techno scene on the west coast. a chance meeting with karl oconnor in 1999 established a friendship that would later open the door to the sandwell district label in 2006. silent servants sound is a reinterpretation of early 80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of basic channel and downwards.

rinse fms breakfast show host, dva is a producer with a unique take on the uk funky bug, blending the stiff 8-bar funk of grime with a super-supple rhythmic sensibility, sewing neon colours with a laid back precision into his tracks. >natty< is a prime example, drums stagger like they are about to topple over, squelchy bass synths lock together a tough tribal drum pattern, liquid metal trickles around in the mix, and these contrasting elements react with explosive results on the dancefloor. on >ganja<, a cartoonish ring-tone-friendly synth melody worms its way around tight soca-esque drums and housey organ stabs. factor in the depth-charge 808 subs, steel drums and sparingly used ragga chat and you ve got a technicolour hyperdub debut fresh for 2010.

okains dj career kicked off back in 1999, when at the tender age of 15 he began spinning regularly at parties. influenced by french legend laurent garnier, it wasnt long before he was offered his first residency. since then, he has gone on to play at the hottest of paris nightspots, including the rex club and social club. through playing at the now famous dimuschi parties he teamed up with paul ritch. after some time studying in sound engineering, the pair released their first ep under their handycraft alias on kickboxer. since the success of that >le bal masque< ep, okain has gone on to release on labels including robotronic, bpitch control, four twenty, tsuba, quartz and of course jetaime, and has been fully blooded in the art of touring. gigs have flooded in, and his travels have seen play many of europe s finest nightspots. his >blackrock< ep on quartz earlier this year found fantastic success with so many of you, and today our good friend is back, with the awesome >acrobat<.
the original sees okain take the warm, techy path. a lo-slung groove leads us into the melodic strings. matched with sharp efx, strong beats and a demonic laugh, this is a sure fire winner. first on remix duty is label head alex dee. toughening proceedings, alex creates a driving, somewhat tribal work out. relentless beats work brilliantly with the now chopped vocal, to create dramatic tension that builds to a crescendo in the break. a fantastic mix. a great package already, and one that just got even better with the edition of daniel mehlharts incredible rework. the frankfurt producer is hot property right now, and this mix showcases perfectly just why. deep, warm and moody, with huge helpings of classic detroit touches, the originals strings are accompanied by weighty synth stabs, to stunning effect. essential.

minor love features 14 brand new tracks from americas number 1 greatest singer!. minor love found green enlisting the talents of rodrigo from little joy and other hanger ons, like his brother joel (and look a likes joe steinbrick and greg from megapuss). the album showcases a tender side of the often arrogant and emotionally unavailable bully / singer, green. in a total state of isolation, green attempted to play nearly all the instruments on the record, due to incurable social phobias which plagued him. apparently the inspiration for this album lies in greens fatalism - you might want to take that with a pinch of salt though!

>fall into me< finally marks the release of the last and keenly awaited single from jay haze aka fuckponys masterpiece >let the love flow<. the album title says it all - >fall into me< sounds incredibly light, yet catchy and full of energy - a free fall onto the worlds softest pillow. this is how house must sound to lovers. house with soul can be taken literally in this case, as jay has called upon the expert support of laila tov and chela simone. the latterenjoys an international standing and has already lent her sublime, very unique voice to kikis hit single >good voodoo<. here she combines inextricably with jays compact sound aesthetic and makes >fall into me< positively shine.with its atmospheric intro and broad musical range, the original on the a-side sees a welcome reappearance of certain must-have features which will have the hairs on your neck standing up... the accompanying video was shotby emmy nominee daniel michael gahr with chela simone and laila tov in the woods of san francisco.
marco passarani has done the honours on the flip side. a workaholic from the eternal city of rome, marco is the linchpin of the italian techno scene. he produces under the aliases js pool, monomorph and ambit 3 for the labels skam, hymen, clone and peacefrog, and also runs his own labels plasmek, pigna and nature records marcos >fall into me< remix is unmistakably influenced by hiscarefully nurtured detroit roots. however, he employs these stylistic elements very discreetly, retains beats, melody and vocals in his arrangement, takes out a little of the decorative padding from the album, then finally hits us with a wonderful, trancey eight-tone sequence to send us into the realm of dancefloor dreams for ever.

with five beat pharmacy albums and almost a dozen vinyl releases on francois ks deep space imprint, this dubby and eclectic project of brendon moeller needs no introduction.
chugging along at 120bpm, underpinned by a thick sub-dub bassline and a modulating maurizio-style synth cord arpeggio, pump is a hypnotic slap of deep smoky house with some memorable hooks to boot. swirling rhodes keyboards and a slick piano riff serve as a lovely counterpoint to the swinging funk of the hi-hat groove. forever morphing and evolving, the stready and unrelenting groove are guaranteed to keep heads bobbing and toes tapping!
the first remix here is by echospace head honcho, stephen hitchell under his intrusion guise. stripping away and re-contextualizing the key elements in the track, hitchell crafts a warehouse-style dj-tool that subtlely weaves its way into ones subconscious via a delightful psychedelic keyboard hook.
londons bearweasel takes a similar approach, except with a much more pronounced beat track superbly trippy atmosphere. a top notch dj tool thats likely to be spun worldwide.

sometimes i feel is superb combination of solid percussion, filtered house backdrops of melodic synths chords and bumping bass, and a strong female vocal, making this a surefire peaktime pleaser. pick of the 3 takes here is the wild pitch vocal version, a stellar floor burner with some great added string arrangements alongside thumping house beats, a bumping bassline, and champagnes anthemic vocal track.
