deep88 is back! here is a 7 track lp, music without any pretence, no silly fx or crazy compression/production tricks to take away from the music. just that 1988/1993 vibe with a slight balearic twist but some how avoiding to sound like a poor copy or dated. this last statement couldnt be any truer on this release. the vibe is carried through the whole ep with each consequent track then offering something a little bit different, some showing his balearic side and other tracks having a more house feel.

illusory house and techno from new york native image man, following up a release on crucial newcomer label sunal/perabob with another four-track 12” of windy, paradoxical tracks built from samples and drum machine. “glance” shifts further into a weirded out but druggily decadent realm where he’s found looping the reflections of disco, soul and ancient pop samples into his own spaced and primitive euphorias, starting out with the slowmo downbeat of “more” before the more apprehensive rhythms of “else” end up filtering out into a pool of a reverberant samples that echoes out the second half. from the image man himself: “we trust in the sound we take for granted—the music wouldn t lead us astray, would it? emotions can lead us astray, the wanting to feel, the wishing of forever lasting, the pleading for change, the expectation of ecstasy. just a quick glance in the mirror.”

having already issued a few cassettes via his own harsh riddims label as well as cgi’s sister label dka records, ryan parks brings his fit of body project to cgi for his debut 12inch, release. here we are treated with two previously unreleased original cuts as well as galcher lustwerk and twins reworks of a pair of older tunes. fit of body’s sound is unique among the current crop of bedroom dance producers in that it can ignite a dancefloor while still feeling deeply personal. this mood is enhanced by the way parks colours his tracks with his own voice. his approach to adding live instrumentation to the arrangements lends a handmade delicacy otherwise lacking in so much hyper-quantized machine music. these are tracks that will feel at home in the dj booth, your living room and your bedroom.

death on the balcony s ‘tides of fortune has been the subject of relentless -track id- requests pleading us to reveal the name of the artist and track since be-at-tv streamed the bpm performance of lee burridge and matthew dekay back in 2015. joined on the ep by three other tracks there s a cohesive feel to the two friends vibe. mysterious melodies drift in and out of the hypnotic grooves on rivers of sound that could have soundtracked a star trek episode from the original series. 1700 miles is delicate and deep with a simple infectious vocal sample. don t be deceived though. when played on a club system the kick drum and bassline draw you in while the atmospheric elements send the listener to otherworldly places. we feel rather privileged as this track is mark’s first solo outing from dotb under his new moniker “caramelli” and dotbs first full length on all day i dream. mark’s back in the band for memories of the future which completes the release with its funky bass and trippy ambience. close your eyes and be transported.

after “theory of strings (part1)” ennio colaci and fabio della torre present the second part! the first track of a-side is the one who gives the title to the whole project, - theory of strings-, a dubby groover with a funky and psychedelic feel in the vein of a more coloured and dirtier studio 1 or soundhack. the -feeling good vibe- keeps going relaxed and chill with the smart up and down mood of the track -forty degrees- while on b side minimono get drier, minimalistic and more mysterious with the subtle after-hour jam of rewind. this strong effort by fabio and ennio ends trough the cinematic atmosphere and the romantic piano notes of the gentle but raw closing act -still mine-. mind the strings!

newcomer region takes no time to get his credentials across, and this debut ep is all you could possibly ask for from an artist making their way up the food chain. coming though on the young jaunt label, region dishes out some seriously magnificent dub techno lashings here, with the opener -subline- being something of rough gem, the remix comes from lies-associate voiski, and the frenchman strips the whole thing down to a deeper, murkier tone that we ve come to associate him to. -borders-, on the b-side, is a supremely deep and meditative house track with a touch of the shed in it, and main man basic soul unit drops his version of the tune, a broken beat assemblage with that same dubwise feel that wraps the groove of the original cut.

primavera may lifts you from ordinary life: the apparition of rain clouds and droplets blur into a soft curtain over the world as the whir of delicate hi-hats glisten in a muted sunlight. imagine a moment where the most inanimate inhabitants of the earth ghost dance before disappearing into nothing. makker s spoken vocals add a crestfallen hue to the vanished. she monotonously recites her regret: -everything is dancing / everything is crying / it can feel so heavy / before it has begun- a denser, yet similarly sorrowful song, before i fall asleep is sculpted around nimble strings and webbed by breathy vocals, remaining slightly suspended, as if levitating just above the verdant ground. halfway through primavera april, the track is transformed by acid showers, a lead synth lifts off to reveal a ravaged landscape, diametrically opposing the previous peace. the ambient acceptance snow closes primavera with the self-fulfilling prophecy of its theme: that snow will fall, and the world will go to sleep. conjuring the surreality of renkas childhood landscapes, for all its reverie, primavera always orients itself toward the responsibilities of the present. there is an acknowledgment that all day dreams must lead back to reality, that all journeys must be fulfilled.

what would it feel like to have your naked body slowly submerged in a pool of steaming acid? one would expect unbearable pain, of course - beyond the limits of our imagination - but with his acid ambient vol. 1 on kontra-musik, daniel araya proves us wrong. the ems studio engineer and producer adjusts the intricate ph levels of this corrosive bubblebath with infinity skilled hands, making the experience thoroughly pleasurable - on the verge of erotic even. your skin melts away with a sweet sensation of laxity and your muscles and tendons dissolve sensually slow. at the end, nothing will remain below the surface but the pleasure center of your now diffused brain, pulsating with unrestrained satisfaction. so come on in, the acid is fine.

we turn to chapter 3 as we introduce a brace of remixes by easily one of our favourite djs and producers, the one and only lena willikens! we havent really went in for remixes much before with the label, as we feel strongly about the power of the original. in the right hands, a great remix can be equally as powerful though and lena has succeeded in bringing her own weird and wonderful sounds to a track from each preceding chapter - rroxymore from chapter 1 and oslo gabon from chapter 2, whilst still keeping true to the original work.

having previously worked with zero 7 and nightmares on wax before embarking on a solo career a few years back, mozez (aka soul singer/songwriter osmond wright) is no newcomer. the ray mang-produced run river first appeared on last year s wings full-length, and here makes it to wax for the first time. sitting somewhere between early freeez and odyssey, mang s extended vocal version is something of a soulful, soft-spun disco-funk treat. as we ve come to expect from mang, its musically rich and impeccably played, with the live instrumentation providing a deliciously organic feel. this can be heard more clearly on the excellent flipside instrumental.

2016 repress , having provided a remix for the label back in 2010 ethyl & flori now release their first full ep for the label, the last ninja kicks things off with an unmistakable old school tech-house feel which to us at fof recalled the classic architecture dj mix by terry francis with its punchy kick, sharp percussion and imbued uplifting warmth. fornjot by flori on the flip is a different proposition, although still deeply entrenched in a throwback to yesterdays production stylings, this is a much more techno orientated groove with the tracks repeated metallic bass riff anchoring the track in a gloriously hypnotic yet fresh way.

after a summer of trips around the globe to play at croatian festivals, balinese beach clubs and a variety of underground establishments, pedro & dicky deliver the latest episode on their own paradise row label. the ep fuses their love of disco, house, italo and balearic sounds and is a proper party-starting, medium sized player with tracks that are ripe for most dance floor moments and occasions. the up-for-it, head-nodding arps and discoid thrills of dance to love get things going in style. while the chunky house and barbarellas inspired vibes of i think i can feel something will really get you moving. this one has been going down a storm in the clubs this summer. and finally, things come to a grande finale with perfecto , which cooks up italian influences with ma foombey style longings to make for a sound as balearic as large hierbas on ice. perfecto!
