after his remix for leghaus single >herborn<, mike wall release his first single on flicker rhythm music. after >total black< on berlins frucht label now he release the second match of the color collection. >total red<is a cynically, metallic thick groove that gets dark and powerfull straight to the floor. incl. remixes from octave (silent steps, nachtstrom schallplatten) & james unk (less is more, frucht).

cork based producer and dj shane linehan has cut quite the impressive swathe in the first few months of 2012, anointing his own basic groove imprint in fine style with the swiftly sold out 12 inch my initial grooves as well as gracing mad mats local talk label with a stellar vinyl drop. linehan returns to the controls for the second basic groove release with more of the same - namely deep, tracky productions notable for a crispness in percussion and rawness in texture. lead track >get together< is a swaggering example of linehans style, with a groove formed of low set bass stabs and playful neon chords. its complemented by the deeper sounds of >the future< with the opening shards of dubby chords soon aided and abetted by snapping rimshot percussion, thick bass clouds and the whispered titular vocal.

berlin based daniel dexter is part of the new breed of producers showing us why theres still mileage in the good old house groove. his cultured, expressive productions have the mark of a true talent and mr. dexter has only just begun. the acid-revival lives on.storm is a heavy, late night tale of sax, e-piano and stomping synth basslines. growing from a filtered intro, its song like structure drives us into true reckless abandon - perfect for the darker moments of the night, but still oozy with funk and soul. the thick, percussive opening bars of there will be jazz lead to a focus on one of dexters chosen weapons - more jazzy saxophone samples and synthesized strings lift us into a musical crescendo of tension, yet theres a laid back, new york vibe to the track, which will no doubt get plenty of plays this summer. the mysterious murder is a darker affair, shrouded in rave-era stabs and a real pushing vibe. its clear that daniel is a dextrous (no pun intended) producer with plenty of tricks up his sleeve

js is the half of the rks project and one of the minds behind earth mothern. for the fifth work of the label he produced a thick ep transfiguration of the dark side of the earth (mothern) which points out all his talent. the first track, when i met mary, heavily influenced by the early sound of berlin and detroit, is a dancefloorkiller. ocp rework the track with their bare gross minimalistic blueprint, mixing and recording on physical electronics as it is mandatory at the restoration headquarters. king korgs hypnotic synths and strong beats, pushing on melancholic pads. roll a groove for a savage ride… the last track, thinkin of you is a sweet late night house tune, evocating the skyline of chicago and detroit

i know u combines tribal rhythms, pounding bass, insistent synth stabs, some distressed dialogue and a insanely large crash in the most maniacal way imaginable for what has to be one of the most devastating and original tunes for a very long time. sparse and spacious but yet rhythmical and energetic, lxc manages the ultimate arrangement balancing act here. the intensity increases gradually as the track progresses, culminating in an all-out tribal war ! a modern day jungle masterpiece from one of the most under-estimated producers around. on the flip, senses finally unleashes a track that decimated the very first technicality all-nighter back in 2004. 8 years later and that power is still very much in evidence! everybody want go heaven. nobody want dead – taking influence from the 1990 film marked for death, senses builds a dense vibe here, thick with imminent danger. rolling drums soon give way to a energetic ride-heavy break and pounding sub-bass hits. drum rolls drop and mentasms screech before the storm begins to subside half way through. the respite is brief however and after a complete silence the track reassembles, beginning with some insane slow to fast mentasm pitching which continues as a dark, slick reece begins to build with mysterious atmospherics. the tension is cut by the return of the drums – rolling along at first, before the mentasms and subs hit hard again, signaling a percussive onslaught! jungle just got catapulted into 2012.

mutex recordings are back on wax with fluid ep from unbalance. this guy put out one of the most decent productions in 2011 with his white-labeled unbalance series and definitely is one of the artists to watch for in 2012. his music is an incredible collage of everything you love in techno: thick groove, detroit-styled chords and spooky futuristic effects. argentinas techno hope jonas kopp on remix duties completes the release with his unique recognizable straight-to-the-dancefloor material that really kicks ass! this one is a record that shouldnt be missed!

between 1978 and 1984 can as a group were utilising the innerspace studio in cologne less frequently in order to search for new ways to develop their sound and creativity. however drummer jaki liebezeit and holger continued to record and experiment at the studio and czukay considers this time as the most fruitful and creative period they spent together. born from this time was >secret life< and >in space< and these are presented on a white vinyl disc in a fantastic full colour thick card sleeve. limited & hand-numbered!

after two smoldering releases on figure & spc, roberto bosco is back for his third offering for len fakis spc imprint. a future-classic 4 track techno ep, with more than enough to keep the peak time floors happy, this is big room music at its most intelligent and sensitive. easing us into the thick of it, charming noise takes humming, rumbling bass tones and a metallic clang as its themes. slow burning and readily effective, its a brooding monster for the late hours. i just cant breathe pushes the adrenalin up a few notches in a screaming, white noise attack on the senses. boscos trademark heavy bass rumble and crisp percussion layers hold their own in this reduced killer. were then ready to embark on an emotional voyage as the masterful see the light emerges from the depths with its pushing acid bass and beautiful atmospheric melody. classic strings and synths swirl and build in a tender and heartfelt piece of timeless techno. closing the ep, i was lonely takes the vibe into more reduced, after-hours zones with robertos cool and low-slung take on the smoother sound of futuredeep house.

next detroit influenced techno - techhouse bomb on thoughtless music incl. huge someone else remix. don not call it a comeback: philadelphia techno legend and 611 records founder nigel richards drops three tracks of abstract late night warehouse music with his debut release on thoughtless. the title track works a chugging low-end and insistent percussion which combine to propel it through a vortex of intergalactic analog textures. taking time out from his busy release schedule for foundsound and little helpers, fellow philadelphian someone else turns in a deeply hypnotic rework that brings reverberant chimes to the foreground atop a bass line that refuses to quit. >deeeep< sees mr. richards exploring further regions of uncharted space by crafting a sleek techno vessel out of thick bass slabs and quicksilver high-hats, pushing forward as all manner of nebula and supernova stream past at light speed. one of the most influential names of east coast techno is back with a vengeance - fasten your space suit for zero-gravity fun...

kowton and tom dicicco, residing in bristol and manchester respectively, make very different music from one another. kowtons seems to come from house, perhaps also electro and garage, often quite slow in tempo and hard to pin down to a specific genre. toms music is techno, bass heavy, melodic, textured and rooted around 125 bpm. with these distinctive styles the idea of a split ep might seem ambitious, but the result is four cohesive but different tracks that show the talents of both artists perfectly in the format of two originals on one side and two remixes of each others originals on the other. tom diciccos original is driven by a low-mid range thick stab and pounding kick drum, littered with intricate but not overbearing hi hat and snare work and some very atmospheric mid range. kowtons is subtle and sparse, low fidelity and plodding, with rattling percusion carrying the tune along. on the other side of the record, kowtons remix of toms original is driven by an enormous bassline, with an off kilter dubby feel to the slow tempo and genre defying tune. toms remix of kowton rounds off the ep with a return to stab driven techno, pulsating, dynamic and trance inducing.

following their recent track on reduxs pick & mix vol. 1, the disco legend that is pete herbert and melbournes golden fleece further cement their collaboration with this full ep on space walker records. >ivory waves< is a 90s influenced cut of uplifting piano-driven balearic house, complete with lush cosmic flourishes, whilst >the bells of hackney< is a more low-slung, but no less powerful production. initially combining a snaking live bassline and spaced-out arpeggios, the track builds to a crescendo as heavily flanged piano and tights guitar licks come into play. the b-side meanwhile serves up two remixes of >ivory waves<, lithuanias downtown party network recompose it as an even more-good time anthem (if such a thing is possible) with their trademark melodic charm, while slovenias sare havlicek takes the track into deeper territory bringing the thick bassline teasing the melody with dubbed out stabs, slowly bringing the huge piano line in before dropping it with force, taking the anthem potential of the original and running with it.

played by sven väth !!! night voyage tool kit is the collaborative project of two like-minded producers, night slugs bok bok and tom trago, curator of the rush hour labels voyage direct series. originally commissioned by sound pellegrino label boss teki latex, this is the result of four intense days and nights in toms amsterdam studio, surrounded by hardware and enshrouded in a thick haze. having pursued very different directions in their respective solo work, the duo find common ground in minimalism, dj tools, the neptunes and ghetto house. the result is a collection of stripped down rhythm tracks aimed straight for the club: the arpeggiator workout of pathfinder, vectors cosmic jeep bass, pom clash and its grimey lil louis tribute, and the acid epic lil ma bonus beat.

in its original form, holy ghost!s debut album cut >hold my breath< is, pure and simple, great dancefloor electronic pop, in the hands of shadowy duo tiger & woods, the song has been totally reshaped and refracted through 80s r&b radio. they have slowed the pace and inserted synth-funk hot flashes that recall prince – and, no kidding, the time, and jimmy jam & terry lewis – to create a mood that fits comfortably (and pleasurably) within their future boogie m.o. cosmic kids ron poznansky and dan terndrup have taken the track in a more tensely dramatic direction. it might be the vaguely darkened synthline upon which much of that track sits that lends itself to its more intense feel here, and gives it such a pleasant nocturnal feel. finally, theres falty dls re-envisioning, which goes down awfully smooth for a track so full of the big, thick, bumping bass beats. it’s an aural pleasure to find yourself dreamily lost in the brooklyn, new york producer/djs halls of reverberating sound.

what do you call musicians like com truise? he seems easy enough to pin down—throw out some words like nostalgia, synth-wave, eighties, and electro-funk and you will scrape by—but to be truly insightful about his music is tough, because art that is so blatantly referencing certain things in a certain way while also making them weird and new and unique is confusing. how do you classify something that is so obviously both vintage and current but is too fun to call postmodern? awesome is an option. especially when it sounds like you are driving the knight rider car through thick clouds of nitrous oxide, like >fairlight<, the title track from truises new single, which previously appeared on an iso50 comp called dry waves and also has this jarring, falling-all-over-itself middle section that prevents you from trancing out too hard. >beta eyes<, the track that follows, is even more restless, with a drum pattern that is fidgety and clustered, kicks and snares fighting each other like two drum and bass heads arguing over an atari remote. >polyhurt<, a narcotic, almost ballad-like closer that inevitably leaves you thinking, >now, how the hell am i going to describe that to someone?< the vinyl exclusive cut >colorvision< could be truises most dancefloor friendly track yet.

container is a recent moniker of nashville, tennessee resident ren schofield who has been actively shifting about the u.s. playing shows and releasing cassettes on his mysterious i just live here imprint for a long while now. known primarily for his god willing project, a disjointed, confusing, maze of crude oscillator, tape, and guitar, ren has established himself as a staple in the east coast underground.
here we have a new experiment in electronic beat oriented music. this is no standard fare, however. it glows with a vision all its own, completely isolated and separate making it difficult to place in the awkward world of the genre. the sounds are a thick stew congealing new ideas and naive experiments into something in the ballpark of the new super weird wolfgang voigt 12 inches, abstract and minimal in nature with time stopping tendencies. take those 12 inches and send them thru the garbage can, tape loop, reel to reel experiments of ake hodells >220 volt buddha< or that weird track with lawnmower by charles amirkhanian on the first slowscan volume and we might be getting closer.

charted by ernesto ferreyra. this ep is inspired by an egg dropping contest that was held at the hotel vancouver when i was a kid. all maner of apparatus were designed to help the eggs land safely after falling the 17 floors. all failed but one. parachutes malfunctioned. ballons drifted into obstructions. wings collasped. the winner: a jar of molasses. the egg was pushed into the center of a large jar full of the thick liquid and the jar was thrown over the side. the jar broke on the street below leaving the egg safe and sticky. i was once told that all jokes come from prison. i often think of those doing time while trying to remember some play on words like - whats the difference between a pickpocket and a peeping tom?..... - though that is one of redd foxxs gems i have a new joke i have yet to use - upon exiting a bathroom, regardless of its particular plumbing, tell the owner that you think their bidet is broken

the highly anticipated squeaky lobster ep has been worth every second of the wait. in terms of sample / synth selection, song structure and sound quality, no expense has been spared. hi-fi synthetic drums intertwine with lo-fi sampled kicks & snares whilst heavy stretched out synth bass lines are topped with bollywood-esque string samples, 80s guitar bridges & plenty of other orchestral mayhem. the lush, thick melodic layers mount up into a frequently spine-tingling whole whilst the rhythm section, although outside the box, does by no means neglect the headnod factor. the incredible feat here is that although no 8 bars are quite the same as the next, a sense of unity is preserved within each genre-defying track, making it the stuff of epic journeys. you may start your listening experience in front of your turntable, staring at the record spinning, but you will end up somewhere quite different, squeaky lobster has made sure of that. as man from phone number 770021 would say: >this is $50.000. good luck.<

one night stand is jam factorys third release, a collaboration with new york-based vocalist mattie safer (formally of the rapture) over two 12 inches. this first 12 inch features the original version - a piano-driven chicago style anthem with heavy drums and a touch of acid. mattie delivers a classic house performance in his own instantly recognisable style. on the flip are two different dubs, one an incessant barrage of pianos, the other a thick slice of acid. this release is only available on vinyl.

tony ollivierra begins 2011 by getting down with the machine sound. bordering on acid-funk, this ep really gets it shakin. the title track jericho, reeks of the latter days of disco with a deep bass line that fades in and takes control of the party. a warm synth chord then kicks in along with some strings which build up to a peak time climax. nag champa captures a deep and surreal groove with a sweet aromatic feel that definitely is burning. the dark bass line entangles the listener in a sensual moment while a resonant synth riff tops it off. on the flip, midi aura begins with an uncompromising synth bass line that does not quit. the sequence bubbles onward and a thick chord sweeps through the arrangement opening up into a placid apex of harmony. the aura of this midi is feel good all the way. lastly jack box, another acid track that works the cutoff and resonance into a climax of delightful poly rhythm and melody. jericho will be a very limited vinyl press and will be the final project on the ibex music label. keep your ears open for his next label venture which will be introduced this summer.

poker flat welcomes new artist show-b to the ranks! mathias schober is the talent behind this new and exciting production project - having already released on the respected compost black label - and now announces a whole new batch of funk laden, truly deep electronic jams. >far down< is a swirling and all-encompassing tech-house journey. characterized by pitching synths and focused percussion, the building track really ignites as its slow burning themes come to the fore and a remarkable moment is created. the technical and dubbed-out >time comes< is a superb example of a modern electronic hybrid. crossing heavy dub stabs and delay-washed fx with thick, room filling synths and exceptional detailing, this inventive and textural track is pure home-grown and highly recommended! a dub version is also included which focuses on show-bs stylish drum fills and great feel for tension in the arrangement

time 2 express is on a roll! sqeezing out harsh yet hypnotic techno of the highest order. the 4th instalment in the 61 center returning series is an all belgo-italian affair. as on vol. 3 the a side is taken up by peter van hoesen and donato dozzy. with >dock< they present a dense, psychedelic track: bubbling percussion works its way through swirls of oscillating soundscapes. >dock< envelops the listener in a thick, gentle blanket, slowly increasing the pressure as the track unfolds over 9 minutes. on the b-side stroboscopic artefacts main brain lucy reports for remix duty. >defense against the self> was originally released on peter van hoesens >entropic city< album. lucy provides the track with a solid dose of steroids, injecting cavernous kicks and bleeps. his version widens the impact of the original, while adding his very own personal take on techno. viva italia...
