the second serving from schmorgasbord brings together two relatively disparate and unrelated artists, but who both share a uniquely twisted approach to making music. s-max has been doing his thing for some time, running legendary home all things bizarre in house and techno, boogizm, and releasing a special kind of groove on labels such as telegraph, 7th city and karloff. his original track, >ms. rosen dub<, swaggers and sways with the spirit of classic yorkshire bleeps and bass. the groove is house, but the spirit of adventure is most definitely techno. his remix of spatials >corti< takes a very different approach, taking a rolling, jungle-like approach to dubstep and nailing it to the groove with stabbing bass notes. spatial leapt onto the bass music radar late 2008 with his shadowy infrasonics imprint, and quickly snapped heads with his crisp, refined approach to 2-step rhythms. since then he’s done things on his own terms, only releasing for himself and mutating his sound over a series of 10 inches. >corti< perfectly demonstrates spatials unconventional tendencies, lurching and buckling around a perfectly honed splatter of beats, off-centre synths and delirious vocal snippets. meanwhile on his remix of s-max, spatial flips the script once again with a stomping, swung techno angle that hammers the original into an uptempo, fist-pumping banger.

the track features the dulcet (and ever growing in confidence) vocals of tokyo based max essa. the original is a pacey combination of maxs devoesque song, driving drums and the wide-as analog bass synth from the italian duo. are we men? we certainly are.

the much anticipated follow up to last years balearic opus >panorama suite< by max essa. >heartache (original 86 club mix)< - this funky early nineties inspired house groove seems to be channeling all the best bits of fpi project yet manages to still sound brand new and wholeheartedly relevant. this track is heading for the dancefloor - unashamedly uplifting and funky - a real breath of fresh air. sample free and featuring max on vocals. i challenge you to not move to this. >feel it in your body< is a more chuggy, dubby affair featuring a vocal chant not dissimilar to e-man grooving. funky guitars groove the track along until the synths lift it up to the next level. trancey balearic synth slo-mo goodness.

we are sure max cooper does not refer here to one of traum boss triple rs favourite writer thomas pynchon but rather connects here to the technical terminus of the parabolic trajectory often mentioned as rainbow-shaped. nevertheless we wish to express that the transgressive quality of max music, does it question or break down the boundaries and categories of western culture and reason, is a challenge we have at traum always aimed at, with tracks that were very far away from the norm in the same way as maxs tracks are.
