massimiliano pagliara debuts on ostgut ton with his new ep, time and again. born and raised in the deep south of italy massimiliano pagliara made his way to berlin in 2001, quickly diving headfirst into the german capital’s club scene (particularly berghain’s predecessor club, ostgut) until he started djing in 2003. by the time of his joining with ostgut booking agency in october 2015 massi had already constantly delivered – the dj and producer has left a strong mark on house music throughout the years with energetic, playful and deep sets behind the decks, two acclaimed solo albums on live at robert johnson and various collaboration projects. his residency at panorama bar therefore was a no-brainer – but the musical link by one of house music’s finest with the club’s label was still missing. now massi steps up with four new tracks and his first release on ostgut ton.

for the past four decades, a growing cult of soul music collectors have sought two obscure lps and a handful of extremely rare 45s released on the vanity record label lad productions, inc. between the late seventies and the mid eighties by the mysterious south side chicago singer/song writer larry dixon. larry s raw songs capture the transition from r&b to boogie-down as disco was rapidly becoming extinct. they also perfectly illustrate larrys ability to overcome his environment and discrimination, transcended by his determination to write and produce music. with the support of his faithful musicians, larrys success was only hindered by lack of airplay and promotion, but his talent shines through. this is the story of larry dixon, his label lad productions, inc., and his friends and family throughout four decades of music in chicagos toughest neighborhoods. jerome derradji is proud to reactivate past due records the boogie funk division of still music to release this fantastic archive what many consider to be the holy grail of chicago funk, boogie and soul.

originally released in 1972, “it’s just begun” set the tone for the jimmy castor bunch’s success through an effective and distinctive mix of funk, pop hooks, social commentary, and gonzo comedy. the album also helped the group score a million-selling crossover hit single with “troglodyte”. in the united states the track peaked at #6 in the billboard hot 100. it was a million seller by june 1972 and received a gold disc award from the riaa.

the record opens up with the poisonous title-track “two scorpios”, where sharp analogue leads lean on a relentless disco-funk groove, thrusting us out straight against the sweaty walls of the chicago’s muzic box. the airy and enchanting spirals of “solenoid” create a detachment for a sonic trip through circling arpeggios and sparkles. on the flip side, we reconnect abyssy to the “young soulomon” of early 90’s by a warm and robotics dusty house. the mood turns definitely more freaky with “slomo kid”: sampling divertissement with a punkish flavour and emphatic rhythmics, it is the perfect tune to shake down the whole ball of wax.

zweieinhalb jahre nach rhondas debütalbum -raw love- erscheint am 27.01.2017 der nachfolger -wire- auf pias germany. das quintett hat seine mischung aus groovigen beats, lässigem soul mit sixties-vibe und perlenden melodien verfeinert, die punk-wurzeln aber keinesfalls vergessen. so klingt -wire- dann auch teils cineastisch und deutlich düsterer als der vorgänger, was nicht zuletzt an der beteiligung des deutschen filmorchesters babelsberg bei einigen songs liegt! die zusammenarbeit begann im november letzten jahres, als rhonda ein angebot bekam, mit dem filmorchester ein konzert in potsdam zu spielen, welches prompt ausverkauft war! schon dort probierte man einige der neuen songs aus, und es wurde allen klar, diese stücke sollten genau in dieser besetzung für das neue album eingespielt werden.
