it has been a while since fries & bridges have released anything but that was never going to last forever and the aptly title forever this was certainly worth the wait. the boys use old school skippy beats with a filtered bassline accompanied by the sweetest of vocals which is perfect last tune of the night material. theres also an instrumental for those who prefer a heads down mix...

after two highly acclaimed releases, enclave recordings return with an outstanding debut ep from irish dj/producer conor rogan. cogan delivers an impressive well rounded package which stands head and shoulders above most of the generic house music thats been flooding the scene these days. the title track >78<, is an infectious, hypnotic number with its roots firmly grounded in the golden era of funk and soul. expect mayhem at the disco when the groove kicks in towards the end where the slapped bass, chopped guitar, and flute take the track to another level.

profan (...remember wolfgang voigts abstract techno label from the 1990s) is back from the future, and again complicates the situation. like his earlier projects, the brand new sog (strictly limited to 400 copies) release combines seemingly familiar and extremely unfamiliar signs, and in the most unusual way bends them around the utterly familiar bass drum. the result is a conspiracy of four sound frescos of peculiar beauty, and indeed they deserve the title abweichung (engl. deviance) - named after voigts painting featured on the cover. this is minimal art techno that raises questions.
profan 32 will be released before profan 31which will be released a bit later. yet both are heralds of the art publication/double cd compilation: wolfang voigt – werkschau to be released in spring 2010.

iron curtis is a berlin based young producer. his debut release on tensnakes mirau was supported a lot from many djs and deetron picked his track to his mix cd on music man. this his third release contains three unique touch detroitish house tracks. title track of >großreuth 1< is a winner of this ep. it reminds old school detroit house track and simply effective in the club. this track will be useful dj tool for any house and techno djs. >save the night<, >80 g< on the opposite side are little bit more deep house style. i would like to recommend these tracks to the fan of underground quality or that kind of underground house.

after their great debut >motzbaz / indeed< on afao recordings and the following 12inches >hello kool nice< and <langenthal ep< on quintessentials recordings, which found its way into the bags and charts of djs like quarion, laurent garnier, jimpster and many more, jagged strikes back with a 12 on bonzzaj recordings. this single also contains a hot remix by the dutch multi-talented man aardvarck, one half of the rednose district. jaggeds productions are restrained and minimal in the right way - they doesnt let things get overloaded. they focuses mainly on straight beats and functional house music but always with the right ingredient of soul and rawness. the title track ten to twelve is a heavy cut with a lot of disco influences, funky basslines, cool house-grooves and surprising changes all over the track. the remix of ten to twelve comes from aardvarck, who releases on rushhour, kindred spirits and delsin. he transformed the original in an broken beat stomper, which sounds like it emerged straight out of londons co-op. the b-side contains chicago, a deep house number with forward going percussions, warm strings, oldscool-house-vocals and a slight acid flavour and last but not least the track an orange drippin, which takes you with its deep synth, percussions, basslines, bells and things in the deeper shades of…jagged nation. hot shit gesundheit

in mos ferrys eyes mikael stavostrands no turning back(mfp024) release at the end of 2006 still marks a highlight of his minimal techno period - and this is not only because of big bullys unmistakable vocals. now, none other than daniel sanchez (mumbling yeah) takes up the subject once again and with his no turning back remix he picks up where the krause duo started tastefully back then. daniels 12 minutes remix relies totally on an energetic rolling groove and puts the vocals always precisely when others would think it cant get more driving. the second remix was made by mikael stavostrand himself and is a straight and spatial welldesigned dj tool. for his own re-interpretation big bully got reinforcement through the argentinean odnu and heads more towards dub techno. these are three very succeeded remixes, which awake the desire to listen one more time to the original (despite the title)

alex o. smith aka omar-s does it again, mixing up the rough with the smooth in his wonderfully titled >plesetsk cosmodrome ep< (named after the russian space port of the same name). the first two tracks >kosmos 1402< and >plesetsk cosmodrome< have a old larry heard kind of feel to them, you should check the title track which has one of the most infectious basslines i have heard in a while. the drum machine lead closing track >skynet 2b< is omar s at his rawest. classic fxhe vibes, miss this one at your peril.

the ep kicks off with the title track >we rock non-stop<. tight kick drums layered with pitched 808 subs set the basis of the track. chopped up machine and voice samples are then layered with smooth pads and delays to complete the track. the second track of the ep >solvent abuse< sees sync 24 sticking to his dark roots. distorted vocals, haunting pads, trippy sequences and dirty bass combined with rolling beats and subs!
the reverse side of the 12 inch is slightly deeper, techy affair. >chosen module< is a spacious wash of delays and pads mixed with robotic bass and crisp round beats. the final track >marios mushroom< carries on the spaced out trippy theme of the side with more spooky pads, bubbly bass lines and hypnotic rhythms.

since his last release on circus company (fleurette ccs033), djulz add been quite busy in the sutdio. he did a lot of remixes for slam on soma, matthew dear on get physical, 2000 & one on 100%, arnaud le texier on 20:20 vision and spencer parker on rekids. hes now back with a freshly baked 3 tracker called rotondo. thats also the track title of the a side. rotondo is techy and slightly dark. there you feel a constant pressure that will leeds you to euphoric pad which is just a simple saxophone screaming sample. on the b side we are getting into some naïve and housy feeling with on the road. then ideas are fishes is closing down the record on catchy vocal hook. that king of track to keep the party rolling. once again d julz delivers some great cuts that should be soon on rotondo everywhere

support: steve bug, jay haze, someone else, mark henning, matt star, pan pot, agaric, jason emsley!!! 2009 has been an extremely busy year for billy dalessandro. on top of having recently relocated from his hometown of chicago to montreal, the year has marked his most engaging yet in terms of gigging and musical output. along with a successful three-month european tour, billy released a string of highly acclaimed singles, and his latest artist album (not to mention his growing catalog under the huge hephner and tyrone aliases). however, it should come as no surprise that the producer has saved the best for last.
>strombooty< (for details, consult your local urban dictionary) is the modern dalessandro sound, combining heady experimentation with dance floor prowess. the eps title track is a deep, yet explosive number that creeps in subtly like dark clouds on the horizon, before raining down a devastating thunderstorm over the speakers.
the latin-flavored >el tapatio< and super-deep cut >speak to me< make up the b-side. although the tracks represent different aspects of the dalessandro sound, the commonality they share is a thoughtful approach to dance music that much of the formulaic output these days lacks.
