after his debut 12inch on werkdiscs comes moires new 3 track 12inch on rush hour. in february, ears were picked by the debut release from moire, a mysterious producer hiding behind hypnotic visuals and a well-groomed cloak of anonymity. now hes ready to show his hand further with this second release, a three-track ep of what he proudly calls london techno.

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. adam jay’s “mediastinum ep” is the product of a near death experience turned into an opportunity to create. after experiencing acute trauma to the left lung, the artist was diagnosed with pneumomediastinum, the sounds featured in the production of this record were recorded in the intensive care unit at community east hospital in indianapolis. “inward” is a raw, stripped down stomper filled with anxiety and a pace of purpose. the a2 track, “terrible precision” brings an atmosphere of tension and darkness that drives the ep forward. the synth groove of “chatter” sits atop the recordings of medical monitoring equipment intended to alarm the listener. the unsettling dischord created is contrasted by a powerful low end groove. “concert of the machines” comes with an addictive half time broken beat groove. the warm, effected electric piano work plays off more alert sounds from the hospital room creating a chilled out vibe that is ideal for closing a set. already support from justin berkovi, nigel richards, gayle san, tony rohr, andrei morant, and brian kage.

just when you thought you knew what you were going to get from flashmob they switch it up completely, stamping their mark of quality and proving their versatility as producers they turn in an old school acid house stomp. dark, rumbling bass, spoken female vocal, and complimentary 303 acid squelches make both the garage mix and panorama mix equally at home in a field around the m25 circa 88 as it does on the floor at dc10 in 2013. watch out. acid house is back!

the first release on project squared in a year, *make your mess* is a three track ep by melbournes craig mcwhinney. craig has been making music for years and releasing since the late 2000s on melbourne labels such as pinksilver, melbourne deepcast and his own haul music, also on labels based further afield such as brendon moellers steadfast and speedy js electric deluxe. craigs music is techno, but it isnt preoccupied with the 4/4, employing broken, swung and rolling drum patterns. his tracks often include melodic and harmonic elements and effects reminiscent of dub techno but without conforming to the pastiche template of the sub-genre. the make your mess ep is composed of the core title track and two additional tracks that arose as interpretations and variations on the initial production: *provocation is an excuse* is more furious and loud, *disengage* is more restrained. all three are around 125 bpm and were produced in the space of a month between september and october 2012.

the second release from unknown is a vinyl only release ... busy working on an album the four tracks here are part of his #001-#010 series that heralded his existence on youtube. aside from remixes .. this is the only unknown material that will be available until a new ep and album in the spring and later part of the year .. these tracks were not due for release but he has received a large number of mails enquiring about a release date for them so here is the limited vinyl .

rummage in some boxes of my favourite record store i found a cover that made me curious. l kubic & tagträumer² - the only thing in this world and on the flipside a remix by alle farben. when placing the needle at the beginning of the vinyl the first sounds were very strange. i thought that must be a record from the 60s lost in the tech-house box but than a straight beat turned everything different. a piano melody slowly sat down firmly in my ear and i was longing to know where the journey takes me. after a while an acidline pushed everything and i was sure at this time this is not a normal 4/4 tech-house record. alle farben remixed the themes very playful and i heard that he gives the elements more pressure for the club. so at the end i bought this one and i cannot imagine taking this unique record ever again out of my record case.

august darnells swaggering alter ego kid creole dons his famed fedora and gets back in stride with his first high profile studio album in over 10 years this summer, i wake up screaming. darnell first came to prominence during the mid-70s in new york, forming dr. buzzards original savannah band with his brother stony browder before producing a slew of eccentric projects for ze records including cristina, don armandos seventh avenue rumba band and gichy dan, as well as sporting his trademark zoot suit and fedora for the first time for the debut recordings by kid creole & the coconuts.

when discotheque the volcano was torn down in the hague this year, the bricks and mortar were ground down to a fine powder. in a completely revolutionary process the powder was distilled and filtered by boffins and local music producers to manufacture the music you find on this record. even more surprisingly maybe is that it turns out that the same powder can be both inhaled and injected. i ve just had a bit actually and its not bad. post-post sewer tracks far beyond your wildest imagination.
