after last years dystopic debut, super strength ep, rising parisian cedric bros aka marcelus returns to tresor with something a little more deep and shiny in emerald. once again marcelus conjures up the spirits of detroit and berlin techno, moulding them here into dreamy modern house incantations-an inspired blurring of the lines the well-versed frenchman has been rehearsing over the last decade.

deadly poison is the fourth installment of st petersburg-based producer sanys on discerning downfall theory series. retaining to the a/b format and treading a heady, analogue-hued line with releases thus far on predecessors control freak / event horizon, forward thinking logic and daily situation which supported a stunning rework from chicago-based, detroit-born producer alex israel, deadly poison continues to march on in gritty, idiosyncratic fashion only this time fractioning off and multiplying into four distinct, yet symbiotic floor workouts. on the a-side hired guns kicks off with no-holds barred, full-on weighty bass weaponry before grab them back in reins things in, just a little: a dystopic soundtrack full of clanging machines rung through with the filmy dread of a waning humanity. on the b-side concern continues in plain rude as distorted vocals are twisted into evil barks and plied with itchy hats to warning chimes and a bounding bassline in this weird and wonky builder. down and dirty then concludes—as the title suggests—in deep, raw analogue terrain. having already caught the attention of people like blawan, rivet and brendon moeller, deadly poison consolidates sanys skills as a one to watch maker of provocative, sensitive and fiercely independent dance music.

betsy just stood there with her mouth wide open. those two guys where fencing each other up and down the stairway. they took 20 steps, back to back, then they turned around, smoothly from the hip, firing magazines at each other. then 10 steps and then 5, both where still standing. they beat each other to a pulp until the blood came out and then until no blood came out and still none of them hit the ground. betsy did not dare to move, even when the duelists finally went away in opposite directions she still stood there like a curtain rod. she cautiously moved her eyes to the left, cautiously meved her eyes to the right, everything seemed to be safe. then there was this flicker of light in betsys sunglasses. they came back.

snw01 contains some previously unreleased cuts from labelowner kastil. where he never thought of releasing this before. he rapidly changed his mind after seeing the reactions to these cuts at his gigs.after several people requesting a release of the a side rush he decided to press them up to serve his loyal followers. these are two rough, peaktime house jams which have a mesmerizing effect to them. the vocal in gather up! is the perfect example. these are two underground slammers, produced with class and in high demand

a yawning desert covers and oppresses a distant daemon-sphere pregnant with the stuff of a thousand earths. clouds of the same hue and attitude as the infinite sands gradually dominate the sky, possessed of a malign intelligence. a trans-generational caravan cuts an unforgiving line through the dunes in a fruitless mission to close its great mad circle, forever missing by just miles. it is a roving, innumerable harem in liege to an unsexed tyrant who sings them this song, reproduced here by resonant hole emissaries jeanne vomit-terror and ed sunspot, as the caravan commits the abominable act of transgressing the horizon into the infant sky-desert “above.” carl calm’s “gulf of night” mix is a monster, as is the great mike simonetti’s perverse interpretation!

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. between the two of them, jenifa mayanja and lola (aka dakini9) have over 20 years experience in nycs electronic music community. here, they have combined forces for the first time to launch a new label and music collective: sound warrior. jenifa & lola envision sound warrior as a forum for developing and promoting women electronic music producers. based on their own, and the combined wisdom of other women in the scene, jenifa & lola decided to create this platform as a community for women electronic music artists, and hope to grow the idea into far beyond a record label. starting things off with a split 12 inch, jen and lola deliver two distinct takes on percussion-heavy, ritualistic deep house.

slowly but surely spencer parkers work them label has been gaining a deserved reputation as a no nonsense house and techno imprint thanks to releases from the likes of pittsburgh track authority and dana ruh. now it is the turn of the s:vt who serves up one track, basement sweat, complete with a remix, which will then be followed by a separate 12 inch featuring two remixes from arttu. the original track pairs classic, piled-on-top-of-each other claps with a freewheeling melody that runs up and down the scale. the bottom end is streamlined and techno inclined, bringing with it plenty of raw warehouse vibes. the no strings attached mix loses the melody and ups the percussive ante, chopping up and slicing out patterns as that bottom end continues to burrow on.

golden teacher started life as a studio collaboration between glasgows noise punk trio, ultimate thrush and glasgows all analogue house duo, silk cut. the results of their collaboration turned the ears of all who heard them, not least twitch who after one listen asked if he could release the project on optimo music label.

mule musiq now proudly presents eleven unreleased compositions by roedelius produced between 1990 and 2001. all of them are pearls of electronic deepness that show another side of the man that lives in the little lower austrian town baden. his famouse ultra sweet piano melodies can be heard – but they are not the centre of the productions. instead a more electronic side of his genius call the tune. with a minimalistic approach he let synth melodies highfly while some droney, melancholic atmospheres enlarge in the background.

holly and lawyer dave are back with a limited edition live album, originally available on cd as a tour only release until we persuaded them that it needed to be on vinyl too. this album features 10 tracks including holly & the brokeoffs standards like >devil do<, >medicine water< plus a cover of the lee hazlewood classic >dark in my heart.
