it has been over a year since the last schmorgasbord release dropped, which saw al tourettes (better known now as second storey) rubbing up against paradroid in a mix up of electro, techno and electronica styles. now the label returns with bass clef and frak, who were asked to each commit a half-finished sketch of a track to tape, exchange tapes and finish off each others tracks. bass clef has been a strong solo force on the electronic music scene since he first emerged in the wider bass music field in 2006, and has since released on idle hands, punch drunk, pan and public information as well as running his own magic + dreams imprint. swedish trio frak have been releasing since their debut album in 1987 when they were thirteen years old. the swedish trio have been active for most of that time, running borft records and releasing a huge amount of music as well as performing live. in recent years they have enjoyed more recognition with releases on kontra musik, digitalis and sex tags mania. schmorgasbord launched in 2011 with a release that saw appleblim and october collaborating for the first time. it was followed up by a release from s-max and spatial.

legendary miami duo oscar g and ralph falcons murk label has always been a sign of quality for house heads all over the world. their distinctive productions have re-shaped the sound of deep house since the very early 90s and they released some of the most sought after house 12inches throughout this period under numerous psuedonyms.

walking through the sky, five years ago christian naujoks, peter m. kersten and richard von der schulenburg started a series of spontaneous recording sessions without any intention or idea. the only thing what held the group together were the immediate results hitting the three musicians straight inside their hearts. jazz as a metaphor of instrumental conversation, improvisation in the most dillettant way, science as a matter of exploring the opposite sound of what instruments were built to, these might be parts of a concept where there was none.

the love for music and vinyl were not only crucial factors that marius lehnert has established itself as a dj, but they are still the basics. through his residency at the infamous club rocker 33 stuttgart marius has received the first major attention. his last release on blufin got a big hype, not only becuase oft he remixes by egbert and fairmont. after a few releases more from marius lehnert he strated to produce with its buddy marc shepherd, first just for fun. but this 2 tracks made it on the new ep investigation of cavity, this time with a superb remix by roland m. dill.

berlin by overnight by max richter is taken from daniel hopes latest album spheres (2013) and will now be released on 180 gram vinyl (plus download code) together with 4 remixes by internationally acclaimed remixers, who were carefully selected and picked up on the nocturnal, minimal and repetitive atmosphere.

techno was always meant to invoke images of the future. whether dystopian or utopic, you want your music to inspire otherworldly images and ideas. enter american producer allen as the newest addition to the m_rec ltd roster…his 4-tracks ep embraces the set of values and intentions that were dear to the pioneers of the genre, while still delivering some incredibly exciting dance floor oriented material.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

hailing from chicagos south side, the duo dar embarks lives in a world of underground techno and machines. their debut album, fleer ep, was recorded live on hardwares, no keys were played, just the pressing of buttons and turning of knobs. gathering its inspiration from records on the shelf, sci fi and comics, dar embarks remains steadfast in technotic efforts to interpret the future - our future.

rndm (pronounced *random*) is a new musical group featuring pearl jam bassist jeff ament, singer-songwriter joseph arthur and drummer richard stuverud. in april of this year, joseph arthur joined jeff ament and drummer richard stuverud in montana for a jam session, which would give birth to rndm *acts*. within an hour on that first night in the studio, the trio had bashed into shape an ament song called *what you cant control*. and after four days with longtime pearl jam engineer brett eliason behind the boards, the group had nearly 20 finished tracks, which were eventually whittled down to to 12 for this album. the double vinyl comes in gatefold sleeve and contains a download code.

contexterrior & tuning spork were launched in the early 2000s by jay haze and soon became critically acclaimed & influential, establishing - along with perlon - the new school minimal house & techno sounds of the 00s.

two years after his debut single he returns with a five track ep featuring i wonder why and four other tracks. his previous work was recognised early by the fader but instead of pumping out more releases, he took his time and the result is a great progression as a producer. not only was the ep recorded at his home, different rooms were actually sampled in the process. all with an increased number of textured synths en better drumlines blending into an ep with a very organic sound.

*somebody* is the first single from the new aurra album *body rock* due out later this year on family groove records. once again the world gets to experience a lost disco-funk masterpiece providing another glimpse into the genius mind of slave founding-member steve washington & brides of funkenstein / p-funk singer sheila horne. body rock will be the second and final unearthing of the lost but found master tapes originally recorded for quincy jones qwest imprint in 1984. slap bass, heavy synths, linn drum, sultry vocals... this is modern funk at its finest!
the 24-track master tapes were transferred digitally and then mixed on an ssl board by kamal humphrey at his all-analog flying carpet studios in los angeles. the result is a full sound enhanced by the natural analog process using todays digital technology only when needed to clean up the files.
da-m-funk adds a bit of dirt and grime by putting his signature re-freak on the track. a confirmation from los angeles ambassador of boogie funk that this is in fact the the un-cut funk and nothing but the funk.

trunk - and branches fetched by klangscheiben manager demas with diligent helpers from the forest. they built a wooden house of joy in the middle of the thuringian pampa. in the tree house they set up a small vinyl manufactory. what counts is lively, honest craftsmanship. hunter s tree! here they are, the pieces of wood, uh vinyl. scratched into the inner bark stands out: artists have placed their saws and axes in the shed and carved a few tasteful sounds in electronic sisyphean. chapeau et voilà, because what s crawling out of the wood boxes (clearly!) is not a worm, but musical understatement with pure groove research and a commitment to a culture of sound of the early perlon vinyls. oh god, always these analogies... but there were, no, there are good times for good music! this is magnificent fizzle funk with emo edge. relish and dance!

token followers can rejoice that now, 2014, surgeon finally makes his official debut on the label. fixed action pattern comes as prequel to aphelion, a forthcoming compilation of new and exclusive material. aphelion will differ from last years token introspective mix cd by providing a collection of bespoke productions from token regulars and like-minded artists who were commissioned by label owner kr!z to bring their individual and complimenting sound to the belgian imprints all-consuming 48th release. following this surgeon 12, rødhåd will release his second record for token before the final unveiling of aphelion.

though the iconic imagery of disco feels distinctly tied to the united states, the style had a wide-reaching influence that made it’s way to africa. while africa was already no stranger to the pulsing rhythms of funk, afro-beat, and highlife, the rise of disco added a slick sheen to the music, with musicians from all over the continent incorporating elements of the genre into their sounds. would there ever have been a studio 54 in ghana in late 70s, these would have been the recordings that would have packed the dance floor with their deep root in disco, soul & funk! an album recorded in the late 70s packed full of legendary musicians such as harry mosco and many more… to be re-discovered 35 years after it’s initial vinyl release as a private press. a “disco documentary full of funk” proves that it stands the test of time by sounding as fresh and original as any other sought-after disco / soul funk lp from the west coast of africa in the late 70s. bbe went on another crate-digging journey and found the original producer reindorf nana oppong and the original master tapes were dusted off, transferred to digital. in the process of this, even un-released material was discovered on the tapes, which makes this a rather special package. “nana love - disco documentary full of funk” is one special journey through afro disco & boogie in the late 70s, and we at bbe can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!!!

the new soft-spoken, hard-rocking group from baltimore debuted their full length live show at the wolf + lamb marcy hotel this march. following in the footsteps of greats like nicolas jaar and pillowtalk, they were the first invited guest in over 2 years to perform at the legendary brooklyn proving grounds. life on planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. it was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that s now been signed to the double standard label. life on planets has also released music through better on foot, where the debut single apollo made waves in early 2014. the touring act features live vocals and guitar, backed by a dj/producer, dawning a long-awaited return to authentic songwriting in dance music.

tracking down el frijolero (nee michael brown) for an interview to mark the release of this record proved harder than initially anticipated. despite enjoying world-wide success throughout the late 90’s and early 2000s - as well as a whole slew of critically acclaimed releases – the us born producer has faded into relative obscurity after joining a religious cult in the secluded countryside of north rhine-westphalia, germany. his last confirmed sighting was from a friend six years ago, who told us that brown had left the cult after filing for insolvency. these previously unreleased remixes were found in a box of possessions in a friend’s basement. they encapsulate the unrivaled talent and technical mastery of a man whose musical career and financial euphoria came to an abrupt end. 200 copies - hand stamped

taken from a mysterious acetate cut by derrick may in 1987 this release was originally penned for kms offshoot pheerce citi. both these sides were later released - the darkside = as a relic (by longer than long ago) and tic tic tic was later released on the limited edition compilation as music institute 20th anniversary as untitled. both tracks are however, very hard to get on vinyl and have now been re issued as loud 45rpm pressings in pheerce citi artwork and remastered for 2014. great techno obscurity!

straight out of egypt via berlin comes this excellent two-tracker from the little-known son of sun. according to the press release accompanying the whispers ep, both tracks were inspired by a week sailing a yacht around the black sea. true or not (we have our doubts), there s certainly a sun-kissed laziness - despite weighty kick-drums and hissing, detroit techno style cymbals - about the woozy, dubtribe soundsystem style deep house of a-side -moonchild-. while impressive, the real killer is -whispers-, which peppers a swinging, dance mania style hip-house groove with snaking saxophones and atmospheric, spoken word vocals. it feels like a late night adriatic anthem in the making.
