meet renart, genius, young and mysterious french techno producers, largely noticed over the last few years for his carefully crafted releases on french labels such as cracki records, dawn records and the acid arab compilation. for his 4th ep, renart produced four house tinted techno tracks for the launch of the hong kong based house + techno label fragrant harbour.

after the retrofuture compilation was released, including 8 tracks from newcomer artists from madrid paying homage to one club, the logical move was to present a collection of remixes by already established artists from spain s capital city. released in 2 vinyl eps, retrofuture remixes 1 & 2 includes remixes from some of the most relevant electronic artists of the spanish scene in the last 20 years.

benson herbert & leo picking aka voyeur stepped onto the scene in 2012 with their *blame it on the youth* ep, released through kerri chandlers then fledgling madtech imprint, the new jersey legend has mentored the duo ever since shifting them onto parent label madhouse with the *rain away* ep and featuring a voyeur remix of his and jerome sydenhams *mama* on his watergate compilation. here we see the pair return to madhouse with their soul-infused sound that has seen them pick up support from the likes of norm talley, nicholas and john daly.

plan b recordings continues its underground sounds compilation series. the a side represents label bosses dj spider and dakini9. dj spider is his usual twisted self on *hive mind* and dakini9s house- techno hybrid *lost* reveals a few layers of meaning for the careful listener. the b side welcomes berlins franklin de costa with a deep moody burner named *retreat* and fifth wall records co-boss divvorce turns in a stomper with *e./b.* to close out the compilation.

after the extensive uncanny valley 20 compilation we go back to our classic 4- track-format for uncanny valley 025. taking the chance to introduce 3 new artists to our roster, we warmly welcome lake people, philipp triebel and rj (who is also one half of duererstuben) to add their distinctive flavour to this record.

the second of the three vinyl eps featuring tracks from perc trax’s ‘slowly exploding’ compilation groups together three of the label’s main artists and closes with a producer making his perc trax debut. the a1 slot goes to label boss perc, whose ‘hyperlink’ builds on the sound of the dancefloor tracks of his last album with a huge kick giving way to swooping 8-bit chords whilst sawf’s ‘goves’, already tried and tested by perc over the last few months is an unrelenting breakbeat monster. on the b-side truss delivers one of the stand-out tracks of this series, with the surgeon supported analogue juggernaut that is ‘brockweir. closing things off is drvg cvltvre, who lowers the tempo but not the intensity with one of his trademark 303 workouts.

perc trax unleashes the first of three vinyl eps showcasing the new tracks from the label’s tenth anniversary ‘slowly exploding’ compilation, mixing up label regulars with established names making their perc trax debuts. forward strategy group begin proceedings with the grinding broken beat rhythm of ‘dragons tooth’ before happa opens his perc trax account with a percussive assault that is amongst the most aggressive tracks on these three eps. martyn hare, another perc trax debutant, delivers the awakenings festival slaying ‘the new normal’ to kick off the b-side and us producers mick finesse and pinion team up for the first time on the b2 with the industrial amen groover that is ‘dead boyfriend alley’...

for a long time, vidal benjamin has been getting up early at the weekends. whether alone or in company, he digs his hands into various crates at record fairs, flea markets or in empty attics, to uncover records that have long been forgotten, ignored or even despised. among the small circle of parisian diggers, his reputation precedes him: it is he who finds and it is he who shares. it is not unusual that in his wake, one finds a certain record long lost, left behind as a special gift from vidal. he likes to share so that others may discover. and it is for that same reason that he regularly sleeps late, playing records in clubs at night, where he follows a similar path: altruistic, educational and festive. it’s no surprise, then, that his first compilation goes by the fitting title of disco sympathie.

the third release from wavefreform again comes to us from the east, and this time around it marks a reformation of sound for both the label and the artist. half of the long-running georgian duo greenbeam & leon, boyd schidt is a producer with over a decade of work already under his belt whose first releases emerged in 2007. as a solo artist, his career dates to 2010 with digital releases on georgia’s front rec, fvf records, and emote music, and a track on the new vinyl compilation from studio r°. with the hard, broken kick pattern, elevated tempo, and nods to electro, the a-side ‘phantom’, a collaboration with subex, is a change of pace for the artist and the hardest thing yet to emerge from wavereform. dubwise use of effects shows the same hands still at work, but the sound elements, granulated blasts of static and drop-based structure of the track hold strong parallels to the rejuvenated techno sound currently emerging from the uk. the b-side, ‘structure’, recalls the previous work of the artist: subtle, building dub techno rich in detail and with the dancefloor firmly in mind. there is clear experience at work here with his deliberate deployment and manipulation of elements as the track struts along while enveloping the listener in its smaller details. as it pauses and takes an extended breakdown, the details rush forwards, but it finds renewed force to power itself to the close. coming in this case from an established producer with a long history, this kind of control is not surprising, but it is more indication of the riches of the east that have yet to be discovered by audiences worldwide.

dark entries and honey soundsystem have teamed up to release to release a special double vinyl edition of *catholic*, the lost opus of disco pioneer patrick cowley and indoor life vocalist jorge socarras. this compilation features over 80 minutes of minimal proto-techno and synth-driven post punk recorded between 1975-1979.
