usas jon hester serves up four heady techno cuts for the second installment in rekids newly launched techno orientated series special projects. based in berlin, hesters discography may be humble but it is one of pure quality. the american techno producer has released on rodhads dystopian, appeared on a release alongside the likes of dj richard, hinode and arthur kimskii (point break) on l.a.g., and now joins the rekids special projects series featuring fbk, markus suckut and dj deep. heaving distorted kicks and echoing stabs lay the blueprint to inertia whilst intricate hats make way for metallic melodies. speeding things up, on the move is a more driving cut in comparison with its trippy atmospherics and crunchy percussion, whereas the surging short circuit demonstrates syncopated percussion and ominous synths for a rhythmic dancefloor workout. finally, neurons sees various cosmic elements ebb in and out of the mix for a mesmerising conclusion.

when titans collide! moscow and fuse bosses archie hamilton and enzo siragusa clash heads on moscow020 bringing both of their influences to bear.
&#8232,ricochet is an unashamed terrace bomb which has been tried and tested by the boys all winter. nothing complicated here, just big beats and tension-filled break that satisfies the dance-floor with the introduction of a familiar sounding old school hip-hop style lead. dubby chords then switch the track up for a few bars before going back to business. the flip opens with transcend, an understated acid track perfect to keep things lively mid- set. the lead weaves it’s way through the track whilst playing with a barely audible vocal and plenty of groovy percussion.
&#8232,the record closes with dubinnovation - something quite different from either of the producers’ usual styles. as the title suggests, the track takes influence from dub, using the sampled voice of lee scratch perry. rolling beats, rasping bass and mind warping effects make this the ultimate after party weapon

pavel ludin returns to poker flat wax with a gripping four-tracker showcasing his myriad of talents. born and raised in eastern siberia, pavel iudin found his way to the underground scenes of moscow and saint petersburg where he firmly established his credentials. the probe ep finds him at the height of his powers, serving up some serious burners. ‘probe 2&#8242,,,, is a throbbing, deep roller with shimmering synths and a shuffling, evolving groove - one for keeping the floor on lock whatever the situation. ‘halo’ has more classic feel to it, clearly a nod to the chicago masters of the 90s, but maintaining a tough and fresh feel that is all ludin’s own. half way though, things really open up into thick, swingy vibe via a killer bassline and snappy percussion. ‘probe 3&#8242,,,, is more acidic outing - although never resorting to the iconic 303, the track is a lysergic journey into dubbed out tech-house. closing out the ep is ‘groundlevel’ - a driving, loopy groover that uses ludin’s feel for atmosphere and tension to the max. the whole ep exudes a steely-eyed mastery of the studio and the dance floor - making pavel iudin one to watch over the next months.

pedantic record collector and dj, stephen king (aka virgo type), has finally started releasing some of the tracks and edits that he s been working on over the past few years with his vinyl debut on kat records. there s an eclectic range of source material on this ep including early disco rap on dancing heart , chopped up, dusty lounge bar grooves on jazz cigarette and even some 90s new-jack-swing gets the loop and filter treatment on outta my head. packing an mpc, drum machine and an extensive record collection, virgo type s tracks are a love letter to the people and places that have provided the inspiration for his music. dj feedback ennio styles, 3rrr fm, australia - love it, nice to have a lil jazz jam to round things out too!

croatian producer el nino andres is steadily building up an impressive arsenal of disco and deep house heaters on his own jackie brown label, having previously been running the hija de colombia imprint. on this fourth slab he pushes his sound into even more intriguing places. opening track slow mo tuesdays lets things roll out on a decidedly dusty tip carried by off-kilter drums. riviera blues stands out thanks to its tough 80s-styled drums and warm soulful melodics. low end massacre meanwhile gets choppy in the edit and makes a devilishly good job of riding the samples.

julien sabre and konstress blind box label is branching out with a new sublabel entitled blind box basic, which seeks to explore a more minimalistic approach to the dance floor. in order to get things rolling, they re turning to chris carrier and his monsieur georget alias for three tracks of on-point, rolling house grooves. carrier s experience in handling heads down tracks is evident throughout, from the insistent surge of geogette to the hazy tones of balade sur le chemien de fer, while mais ou se cache donc le zebu heads straight to freaked out minimal territory.

the first record from the mysterious monsieur blue attracted plenty of favourable attention from the deep house and minimal fraternity when it dropped last year, and so the anonymous artist rolls around for a second bout with this sterling three-tracker. deep and dubby pads meet with rock-solid grooves on the a1, while the a2 track strips things back to an insistent rhythm, emphasising the space in the mix. the b-side track meanwhile channels a funky energy into the spaced out headspace monsieur blue inhabits, completing a strong trio of club-ready trippers for the dreamiest of dancefloors.

brazilian producer bungle returns to thirtyone records with his sophomore ep for the renowned british outlet for all things drum & bass. doc scott curates the label closely and has selected four bungle cuts that all have that same prolific vibe to them.
“cocooned ep” opens up with the sublime and dark title song. “cocooned” revolves around a savvy bass cut and bungle’s signature big drums. “distance” is a special piece with a gigantic pad at the centre of the song. the big and jazzy hats are compilmenting the rhythm nicely while splashes of fx are cleverly being used throughout.

paris player le loup and pura launch their new label shadow play with a four-track collection of avant-garde house music delivered boxfresh from the studio. as a solo artist, and one half of hold youth, le loup has cultivated a nuanced sound that is steeped in soulful jazzy influences, with a nod to the future and plenty of soul. on this first ep we’re presented with a showcase of this sound, and a hint at what’s to come on the brand new label… to get things rolling we have the very first track ‘the ancient ways’, which is quite laid back and minimal in its composition. there’s breathing space for the beats and bass, with an eerie atmosphere pervading throughout. ‘ygam’ is next up with a wobbly bassline, cosmic death rays and sinister effects lurking in the background - it feels like the soundtrack to a deep space thriller. on the b-side things get ravey with ‘acid surface’. retro breakbeats and stuttered toms support a dangerously alluring symphony of effects and pads. at the heart of the track is a deep subby bassline, transmitting an ancient, yet cosmic vibe.

canoe is the new label from nyra that finds him indulging his personal musical preferences while still retaining his club-ready tendencies already established on labels such as never learnt, elastic dreams and more. for the second canoe release noface has been invited along to deliver the a-side track, and it s a killer slice of jazz-laced bumping house replete with sax and vibes. where -young larry- plays things fast and loose, nyra s -sisco visco- on the b-side is an unabashed disco burner with a tight-as-you-like beat and plenty of filter-swept samples to keep the party sizzling.

for record store day 2017 razor-n-tape presents icarus, an original song by lovebirds, with remixes from tall black guy, moods, and jkriv in a striking double 7inch package. giving the shine to their 45 series for this years record store day, rnt welcomes back lovebirds aka sebastian doering with a slice of chilled-out analog soul. although primarily known for his nu-disco and house productions, lovebirds is a seasoned hand at all things deep, and icarus shows the smoky late-nite side of basti s skilled production style. an all-original tune, icarus layers jazzy vintage electric pianos over restrained but head-nodding percussion, with galliano s soulful vocal soaring above it all. the ever consistent tall black guy delivers a 90 s-esque boom-bapper of a mix, with an added verse from 80 s babies for good measure. moods works the track into a slo-mo stomper on his mix, complete with stuttering synth bass and driving percussion. and rounding out the package is rnt s jkriv, with a beachy stripped-down retro-boogie remix perfect for those warm-weather months to come. each mix gets its own side in this double 7inch pack, with stunning full color artwork, making it a truly special package perfect for both collectors and djs alike

bunkr enslave dust-coated synthesizers, dilapidated drum machines and rusty fx boxes to craft 4/4 tunes for their impatient overlords. their vision is clear they will make techno, they will make house, they will make electronica, and you will listen and dance. its not yet clear if bunkr is the work of one frenzied human or many lazy individuals but we do know one thing - the ringleader is one james dean, who previously released as lost idol on labels such as pork recordings, nature, final frontier and cookshop. following a prolonged spell of writing music at slow tempos, dean initiated bunkr as a reactionary desire to speed things up. too much time had been spent just sitting around - it was time to stop sitting and start dancing. true to their vision, here we have cloud chaser, a bubbling jam backed with a huge remix from shan, who flips the mix with dramatic strings, sprinkles of magic dust and massive amen breaks. no less impressive is junos revenge, a track youd turn up on your headphones while taking a nice afternoon stroll on the moon, on a sunny morning after a long interplanetary rave. igor tipura delivers the rework, complete with a marching percussion workout and acid chemtrails that will send you right back to 1993.

subonation of perjury is the latest in the series of heart wreching techno releases from dubiosity for planet rhythm. like always, this release is heavily concentrated on touching synths and growing melodies that might leave the listener in a euphoric gaze. it’s dubiosity’s signature to combine dark and intense techno rhythms with layers of melodic goodness. throughout the whole ep this style is present. elysian fields is the darkest cut of them all but also here a vivid choir comes through to mellow things down. pjotr g and dubiosity join forces for a remix of remy kruyer’s ho chi minh on the b2.

for the labels ninth release, deep a & biris black crow records revisits one that helped establish the labels direction back in the imprints first year. bcr003, insular realms by fellow israeli producer hakimonu, was praised by many including resident advisor, who said the ep proved his off-kilter take on techno and house is as vibrant and inviting as ever. now in 2017, deepa & biri have invited mind against, luigi tozzi and echologist (aka dub techno veteran brendon moeller) to all rework the original version of insular realms for 2017. first up are life & death’s mind against, with one of the fognini brothers most direct techno productions yet, with a mid-track moment of calm before the intensity resumes. luigi tozzi, the rome-based producer who has had previous outings on dynamic reflection and dino sabatinis outis music, contributes the second remix. taking the lead from the originals more ethereal moments, his version is dreamy & almost wistful as it propels along its shaking rhythm. the b-side offers two takes from brendon moeller in his echologist guise, with a dub mix that twists the original into an acid-inflected track that slowly ratchets up the tension over its seven minutes, while the reshape breaks things down into a churning rhythm peppered with flashes f off kilter sonic details.

twr72 is back with a full new story starring lucid as the lead. lucid dropped out of space on a world called planet earth. it’s luminous and vivid appearance were instantly clear. at first lucid was a bit reserved but during it’s first steps it opened up and showed some colorful emotions and hints of it’s personality. with detailed patterns of communication lucid tried to find a way through this new world. erudite, which was already for a more prolonged time on planet earth, picked up the incomprehensible code from lucid and reproduced it into a solid and clever message. erudite was keen enough to think of a way to communicate back with lucid as it noticed lucid needed help. but it needed someone else to bring the message to lucid. so erudite asked help from colloquial who could easily transcript the message back to lucid. colloquial used different types of frequencies to connect to lucid, but it wasn’t that easy. lucid already travelled further and was hard to reach. therefor colloquial tried to use heavier elements to make a more solid composition. unfortunately not only positive things arrived from space. aporia was a rather negative influence which disturbed the link between colloquial and lucid. aporia tried to force the communication by continuously changing the elements of the message. but it wasn’t all that bad, because at the end aporia brought the two important elements of the message together.

jean-louis huhta and joachim nordwall are high boys. together they share a deep interest in old school techno acid, aswell as electronic experimentalism and insane electro-acoustics. they want to make music that will mess with your mind, and make you move while your skull is melting. together they have served in the ritual rock group the skull defekts for over a decade but this is their first own project together. huhta also does is killer project dungeon acid amongst other important things, and nordwall runs his ideal label since 98 and makes electronic music alone and with other heads. high boys will not change the musical or political climate but they will make you feel... different.

trusme gets the remix treatment from answer code request, ben sims & pangaea. this is the first of two eps featuring remixes of tracks from the trusme planet 4 album. answer code request takes our future into new territory with two outstanding mixes. remix 1 moves things to a much more sinister & foreboding place. tightening the feel & tension of the original with all the hallmarks of classic berlin techno. remix 2 winds up & coils the track into a searing workout of early 90s hardcore breakbeat. ben sims takes control of ring round heart, pushing the tempo & creating a whole new urgency in the track. this is proper no nonsense heads down business & tight as you like. the mix builds excellently well & manages to produce an epic amount of feel and emotion, dropping in & out of the groove with a sneaky breakbeat & vocal dubs. pangaea tackles one of the albums more esoteric tracks in the unexplained. he manages to work a wonderfully intriguing steppers beat which drops from nowhere after the highly beguiling metronomic extended opening. the tracks are getting plenty of play & plaudits from likes of ben ufo, dj deep, bicep & anthony parasole.

as much as, in modern days, it has become increasingly difficult to pin things down to a specific genre this release brings very defined genres but also a refreshing feature, a constant change of energy in one single track, and most importantly, it all comes with this modern feel to it which indicates it is the new generation rising making justice to what ultrastretch stands for, surfacing fresh and new talents. signed by austrian duo foehn & jerome. the a side is of the ep consists of the genius idea that it is a relatively simple track, however, with the feel that so much is happening, the type when you listen to a loop but one you can listen to forever and not get tired of it, always the best sign. a rolling and constant bassline makes it into a super fat and rounded dancefloor groover, while on top you have these fragments of chopped up vocal samples in and out creating a sense of confusion, a mind drilling element is then complemented by very loose and fine hihats floating around. on the b side starts with quirky minimal track with a galloping kick throughout, when the open hihats slam in with a vocal it quickly develops into a very happy and playful housy vibe and just when you are riding, the clap slams in now on a tighter hat sequence followed by the break and rebuilding, when it comes back however it adds another element changing the energy yet again, through introducing a synthline. the quirky frog sounding noises throughout certainly makes it a super witty track overall.

theomatic is back with a surprise 12-inch from the labels mainman an-2. mint ep is a collection of four space-boogie jams spanning a variety of moods and tempos that have been recorded over the period of last couple of years. the lo-fi beats and pulsating kalimba-esque arpeggios on sigint create an instant feel of a sci-fi movie soundtrack, while an ultra-deep kick drum and a punchy bass on mint is a sure way to test your speaker performance. things get more chilled and pensive on the flipside with dusky downtowns brooding synthwork and rolling pads taking you on a stroll along glittering neon-lit city streets. last, but not least, amberflames take on dusky downtown is a steaming affair that uses tight compression and lush synths and to create that special euphoric dancefloor moment.

( ps he still has all the patterns for the rx-5 from the original release so remaster, remixes and rereleases are in schmer s future, huzzah!) bpmf the original schmer artist had nothing better to do so he kommt back and gave us this track. we love to torture the engineer so we just had to include some loops: rhizome is the alter-ego of moscow wunderkind nikita zabelin. philly based hero/victim has been victimizing soundsystems up and down the east coast with his mad live performances. the wise caucasian is a pseudonym for some super famous london based producer and label owner, or at least thats what he claimed when i picked up his bar tab.

malka tuti presents its first label collaboration, this time with the italian roccadisco, and label bosses ed rodion and hugo sanchez. ed and hugo (aka alien alien) are no strangers to pitched down sexy dancefloor tunes. with previous releases on slow motion records they ve made a name for themselves as sexy bastards. with perfidia they present the vocalist igino, a friend from home. together they ve boiled a slow burning, constantly evolving song for the late late hours. on the remix for the a-side malka tuti present a collaboration of 2 disco legends ray mang and severino panzetta, that add a medditerranian flavour to the original tune, easing things up... on the b-side we have another slow burner with bella l estate, joined by a top remix by tel avivian prodigy naduve.

siince the release of his debut album, substantial, in 2004, volker bertelmann – aka hauschka – has, slowly but surely, earned a remarkable reputation as a purveyor of imaginative, distinctive, prepared piano music. this isn’t, to be fair, a heavily populated field, but it’s one he’s made his own, and while some might have dismissed his work early on as a novelty, bertelmann has proven himself to be uncommonly inventive, coaxing ever more unprecedented, euphonic sounds and rhythms out of his instrument. even so, on what if – which finds him adding player pianos (also known as pianolas) to his armoury – bertelmann expands his range even further, defying expectations and delivering what is without doubt his most ingenious album yet.

minimalistic art sublabel, 0000, kicks things off with scribble acid, an ep from man at the top, brayan valenzuela. title track scribble acid is a mixture of acid sounds and saturated kicks combined to create an industrial techno line. 0000 differs, highlighting the simpler sound of acid. error makes use of metallic percussion to devastating effect but is lined with pauses in all the right places to allow you to breathe.

the canoe label comes to life with some rough and ready cuts for the wilder kind of dance, courtesy of nyra s gritty studio approach. having previously been found on the likes of never learnt, elastic dreams and more besides, there s no doubt the plucky producer has experience in the field, and the diversity of the styles on canoe 001 is testament to that. -d.a.t- is a stripped down machine workout that keeps things punchy and urgent throughout. -save lite- meanwhile is a wound-up, bleepy techno number with soul, and then -rexperiance- aims for the rave jugular with a stab-tastic lead and some crunchy breaks.
