long time collaborators jason letkiewicz and nicholas dawson colab on the a side with their improvised confused house jam style. there off-the-cuff technique is subtle in its arrangement. ste-018 starts slow and expands with sublime patterns of melody and subtle drum fills. on the flip side, bookworms ste-101 changes the mood. a droning bass signal lies beneath driving percussion and surging noise. dissonant chords slowly creep there way into the track inducing hypnosis. zone out. file under stalker music

a sublime and quietly hypnotic work belied by steadfast conceptual rigour, grafts is the most ambitious and involving work yet from kara-lis coverdale, her first since 2015.
in three parts of cascading yet plaintive multi-instrumental gestures, grafts expands on the processing and self-temperement techniques explored on 2014’s a 480 into a more encompassing palette. uncompromisingly distinct while redolent of modal minimalism, 70s, new age, and folk music, grafts effectively blurs distinctions between traditional composition and more open, overlapping genres that hover in the half-light between acoustic and electronic refinement.

brazilian producer bungle returns to thirtyone records with his sophomore ep for the renowned british outlet for all things drum & bass. doc scott curates the label closely and has selected four bungle cuts that all have that same prolific vibe to them.
“cocooned ep” opens up with the sublime and dark title song. “cocooned” revolves around a savvy bass cut and bungle’s signature big drums. “distance” is a special piece with a gigantic pad at the centre of the song. the big and jazzy hats are compilmenting the rhythm nicely while splashes of fx are cleverly being used throughout.

vitalik continue their vinyl gold series with another gold standard release. for the forthcoming vitnyl003 clive henry drops a fifteen minute long opus on a single sided limited edition vinyl. my fifteen minutes of fame is contrastingly raw in it s production and sublime in composition. it s gentle meandering melodies float over a warm bed of muted pads and analogue bass. recorded as a live jam and stripped down to its constituent parts its melodies take centre stage, enthralling the listener into what can be best described as an acid house lullaby and what has already been penned as an instant balearic classic. my fifteen minutes of fame was engineered by rui da silva and is the former peace division front man s first solo release since his illustrious studio partnership with justin drake, he joins artists such as jimmy edgar, the mole, franklin de costa and anonym on the vinyl only vitalik offshoot.

this june session victim return to delusions of grandeur imprint with their third studio album.listen to your heartis the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in san francisco’s room g studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 lpsee you when you get there. here we present the first of three lp samplers containing four tracks each, cut nice and loud for the vinyl crew. bring it back gets things rolling with session victim’s trademark live drum breaks, looped up pads and hooky vocal samples. only good vibes here, with uplifting keys bringing a warm and soulful edge whilst shimmering juno notes add a floaty element to get lost in. next up we have if we can make it here, the title being something of an in-joke with the boys when they find themselves in the more remote or far-flung corners of the world performing their music to an appreciating crowd. the track is based around a simple yet beautiful 4-bar chord progression repeating throughout and shows svm in a playful and jazzy mood, managing to include soloing flute and marching snare drum rhythms without as much of a flinch!moons and flowers is up next, another sublime slice of hazy house music with a wonderful organic and live sound palette. echoing rhodes licks join dubby synth fx, adding waves of colour whilst the gentle vocal provides the icing on the space-cake. lastly we have the hatch, which winds things down somewhat for a lovely, somewhat stoned interlude track which is over all too soon. an impeccable demonstration of retro-inspired yet forward thinking house,listen to your heartsees session victim at the top of their game.

chances are if you have a body, a pair of ears and access to some kind of listening device, you’ve at least tapped a foot to ‘shine’ from soul clap and nona hendryx. pure authenticity and vocal integrity is provided in bucket loads by nona (ex-labelle member and purveyor of funk for more than 40 years), while the production maintains soul clap’s sublime freshness. increasing your marimba intake by 200% with two additional versions, hot toddy gives exotic plushness with a diversified rhythm section and melodic bottom lines that lightly entwine, shimmering in the light of nonas voice. scott grooves brings the funk, with an upfront bassline and extra jb-style horns on his horns dub, while the deepah dub takes a housier approach while still keeping the horn stabs. scott finishes off with an echopella of nonas vocals recorded from the international space station. this remix package is everything you would want, and then some.
