since his emergence in 2010, madben s melodic, detroit-inspired techno evolved, with various releases on caduceus, astropolis records, off recordings, inflyte and bedrock. nowadays, the paris-based artist remains a key figure in france s new generation of techno producers, with an upcoming debut lp on astropolis records. swinging from atmospheric sounds to techno, madben produces an alchemy of rave anthems, hardware material and groovy, emotional music. with support from france s favourite laurent garnier, manu le malin and rebekah warrior, fréquence(s) unveils his skillfull, mature universe.

in a scenario of overwhelming number of instruments, musicians often do not take the time to deepen and explore the creative possibilities of each gear they possess. one instrument aims at counter-acting this tendency by challenging and limiting each artist in producing a composition by using only one instrument of their choice.

the berlin based gel abril kicks off his new closed circuits label in a full form presenting a strong record by talented polish artist oskar szafraniec, a crafted producer, known by his latest 12” on rawax with ricardo villalobos, eps on murge recordings, cyclo or collaborations with pier bucci. for the debut release on closed circuits, oskar has collaborated with the swedish very addictive duo and has delivered his best work to date, a music piece called “borderline”, filled with lush vocals and hypnotic pads that kicks the label with a proper bang.

german producer markus suckut returns with a mesmerising techno release entitled ‘new life ep’, a precursor to his forthcoming album on rekids. first appearing on rekids in 2015, markus suckut has since become a vital member of the rekids family when not running his own labels sckt and pattern research. pounding drums and atmospheric effects initiate ‘new life’ before a groove laden bassline and scintillating synths ebbs into the mix. ‘mistakes are for everyone’ then generates an oscillating aesthetic whilst syncopated kicks join echoing nuances, leading into the rattling sounds of ‘shimmer’ with its ghostly chords and tantalising melodies. with suckut having released two albums already the du&#776,sseldorf artist is no stranger to the long player format making his forthcoming album on rekids all the more exciting.

japanese guitarist kazumi watanabe has been a treasure of leftfield music in the far east since the 70s, and jazzy conscious are doing a great service in highlighting the delicate talents of this gifted artist for a new generation. there s a new age lilt to the looped up melodic chime patterns that course through -garuda- as they flirt with watanabe s effervescent playing. kuniyuki then hops on the b side to deliver a contemporary remix of the track that shapes out a brooding, immersive atmosphere populated by earthly drums and looming reverb.

backed with strong remixes from dustin zahn, cosmin trg, & doubt, one step ahead is the massive vinyl debut from gabriella vergilov. her refreshing take on techno is a perfect match for enemy. gabriella is an upcoming bulgarian artist based in belgium who rides the fine line between house and techno. her music was recently included on dvs1s fabric 96 mix along with the soundtrack for a film entitled >le fidele.< reach out to me and one step ahead break away from the dark techno norm in favor of a more delicate and emotive approach. emerald drops the percussion altogether, but locks the listener in even deeper with its highly hypnotic groove. on big room duty for this release, dustin zahn delivers an acid-drenched rendition featuring his trademark groove while maintaining the originals feminine undertones. meanwhile, cosmin trg turns in a unique remix that can only be described as heavy and arcane. mistress records and dont be afraids doubt finishes off the package with a very deep and dubby remix which stays true to the originals vibe.

tiefenrausch returns with a various artist ep. gathering three unique dub techno musicians linked through deep chords and driving basslines. while biodub and upwellings already contributed their part to the label, the new member star dub joins in with his raw vision of dub techno.

temples of jura is a new offshoot catering for original artist material from a variety of genres. the first release is a split dub 12inch featuring melbournes len leise and adelaides jura soundsystem. as the title suggests lens track is a homage to the legendary dub pioneer adrian sherwood whilst jura soundsystem debut with a more rootsy excursion across 3 mixes.

this house music lover - real name adrien o’hana - hails from lausanne in switzerland and is a well-established dj in his home country playing regularly at clubs like folklor next to djs such as san proper. he’s also released on grand cru paris and has an accessible, heartfelt house sound perfectly exemplified here.
he opens his account here with the lovely ‘i tried’, a tieless bit of classically informed house music. it has rolling kicks and choppy percussion all run through with warm, streaming chords and a joyful feeling. ‘just 4 her (vox)’ is another lovely jam, with boom bap kick clap combos, dusty hi hats and feel good pianos fleshing out the beats with real soul.
on the flip, ‘dream on’ is another mid-tempo gem with roughhewn drums laying down a heavy groove as soulful male vocal samples and big strings burst through and bring the whole thing to life. it’s house music for cosy, happy dance floors and the final track is a dub version of ‘just 4 her’ with no vocals and more emphasis on the breezy grooves and summery flutes. this is authentic house music that brims with charm.

felix nisblé is putting out the 3rd release under his blint moniker. continuously searching for those short moments of self-empowerment, which keep popping up and slipping right back through his hands, again and again. b003 tries to capture some of this emotion with two tracks, oscillating heavily between euphoria and delusion.
“ghostworks” on the a-side feels like blindly walking through a forest in the middle of a storm, with lots of ghosts whispering through the trees. on the b-side there is “footworks”, which sounds like an out-of-snyc robot drummer is getting chased away by the police. both tracks connect through their simple yet beautifully silly basslines, which are paving the way for some heavily pounding drumtracks.

xen & yovav return to malka tuti in 2018 with full thrust and eyes to the future. after being responsible for the first 2 releases on the label, this time the enigmatic singer and the influential producer collaborate and deliver 2 original songs. hayom etmol is a 100% good vibe diy post-punkish poppy song with a flowing synthetic bass line, balearic guitar riffs and dreamy vocals. the b-side, shavit, is a vocal led song, with a repetitive guitar bassline and, trip guitar riffs and a minimalistic drum machine. low fi in its production shavit feels as if it has been dug out of an abandoned 80s record store in the outskirts of glasgow or amsterdam, with a strong cold wave feel to it. this 7” will be the first in a series of more diy approach to electronic music, song writing and production. some exciting names on the bill so hold on to your chairs... hayom etmol’s artwork design was made as always by morey talmor, with a printed inner sleeve designed by the israeli artist kobi swissa and a special silkscreened outer pvc sleeve.

mindblowing afro soul music from ivory coast served up by an obscure artist who only recorded four albums in between 1979 and the beginning of the 80’s. he created an original funky fusion with bété langage. a selection of four amazing tracks recorded in abidjan on two different records label called war records and as records. the music here is a mixture of funk with heavy basslines, traditional percussions, funky guitar riffs, nice horns section and lyrics in beté. the song «demonde» is inspired by harmonies of the famous «dance to the drummer beat» by herman kelly. those two rare records were found by afrobrazilero aka djamel hammadi and never appeared on the vinyl market. it’s almost impossible to have infos about this singer and composer neither the musicians involved in the recording sessions. most of the trace of the recording session were lost by the labels we licensed the tracks with. unique, pressed on a deluxe vinyl, remastered by the carvery, this very funky album is a must have for all the afro funk lovers!

following the success of the retro-zouk mixtapes series (4 volumes / 15k plays on soundcloud), secousse radio proudly presents its first official vinyl reissue of a long lost zouk banger. originally released in 1993-1994, those two tracks have been road-tested in various clubs and parties for months and the feedback is clear: its dancefloor devastation business. their author is jules henri malaki, an established and self-produced artist from guadeloupe. as the popularity of zouk music keeps growing every day in europe, america and asia, just whisper the name makiyaj to any of the best djs from the current tropical diggers scene and watch their eyes scintillate. this secret weapon shall not remain secret very long.

the third of march’s trio of py 45s, is a revisit to the always enjoyable dark electro world of berlin’s mighty detox twins.
the new record offers up a pair of killer synthpop gems which, in the words of the bands’ mark vorderhaus “drift into the arena of the unwell with their latest outing “in the hospital garden”, and pose the curious questions: is it so unfortunate to surrender your mind to a permanent altered state? can losing oneself irreversibly to a manipulated insanity, actually prove to become a rare and wonderful freedom? attraction battles control as the transformation completes itself. the b-side, “transformation” depicts the liberated insanity without challenge, now thriving and pulsating beyond the point of any return.”

the second of march’s trio of killer polytechnic youth 45s is a mighty extended piece of slow building berlin school-esque electronica extended over 2 sides of a 33rpm disk, recorded by adam leonard, initially from a batch of 18 tracks recorded at varying times over the last six years.
“entkommen” is his first release for the label here, and both artist and label rather liked the idea of one extended track across two sides of a 45, whereby the listener must flip the disc at a half way point to continue the piece. it struck us as increasingly unusual and works a treat here...
adam has amassed a number of acclaimed releases in varying styles, and across a number of esteemed labels over the years. last year’s full band release “invaderband” being shortlisted for a northern ireland music prize 2017 and was 6music recommended. not to mention previous releases in collaboration with the owl service and p.g six.
his electronic home recordings are all well worth investigating and polytechnic youth proudly releases the first fruits of those sessions right here. a numbered, limited edition vinyl only 7” hand numbered to 250 copies.
