these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

mid november will see retrograde co-founder marlon hoffstadt pair up with paris brightledge for shattered. following a run of releases for his retrograde label and a track featured on the 100 dirt crew compilation berlin based dj and producer marlon hoffstadt continues his upwards trajectory, once again enlisting the services of legendary chicago vocalist paris brightledge who recently collaborated with paranoid london on their paris dub 1 & 2 records. stepping up first is the original mix of shattered with hoffstadt and brightledge delivered a raw, experimental house feel via broken drums breaks, sweeping synth chords and acidic bass chops, whilst paris vocal stylings add a soulful edge to the record.

marco bernardi, a british producer with quite a flamboyant personality is no stranger to the burek family. having already released an excellent 2-part 12 series titled laffer ep for barba last year, it couldve been expected that hed appear on the mothership at some point. as on those two records, theres plenty of synth action going on, although with a little bit more restraint and less roughness.

adelaide duo warren raww present a 12” that ups the energy of their july ep, whilst still delivering on their own brand of melodic, synth-laden house music. this time flanked by comrades arthur miles and freddie norwood, they add to the already high volume of talent currently emanating from australia.

moscow records close 2016 with a fantastic 3-track ep from berlin imports roustam and tolga fidan. this being their first outing together, the pair deliver a high quality, intelligent journey through minimal house and techno. the record opens with brodsky beat, a groovy, dance floor-focused track. lively percussion and tight bass communicate perfectly with the hope-filled lead to build tension throughout. the omega variant on the a2 has a much more abstract feel. broken beats and skippy percussion play back and forth with deep, spacey hooks and a peculiar synth, giving the listener a sense of mystery. finally, growing up is just a phase is a calming 14 minute trip that uses the entirety of the b side to tell a story of reassurance and calm. laid-back rhythms, guitar samples, relaxed vocals and a wandering synth line work together to form the perfect warmup track.

london-based producer keyboard masher has been flying out a no-nonsense brand of disco-infected grooves since 2010 on their own km editions label. devoid of hype and placing the emphasis on the music, the eighth installment in this crucial series of seductive late night jams packs in more boogie than you can shake a particularly funky stick at. -ferry home- strikes an irresistible 80s note with its live band undercurrent, while -i m still qualified- slinks down into a more sultry mood before -twin magjik- heads skywards on a bed of twinkling synth tones. sweet disco tones don t come fresher than this.

fresh on the back of the release of his third album good luck and do your best this summer, gold panda signs off an acclaimed 2016 with a very limited 12 of three remixes of music taken from his latest record. having previously re-worked the panda track community, berlin-resident fort romeau once again takes the reigns with a gorgeous, nine-minute pulsing, electro-heavy recreation of the track time eater complete with ghostly synth motifs that twirl around japanese instrumentation culminating in a frenetic release. us producer john roberts, who himself released one of the best deep house records of the year, remixes chiba nights, transforming it into a thumping, acid-tinged affair that mixes space and warped electronics beautifully.

collins debut 12- on giallo disco is dark as night and sharp as a knife. twisted electro-nightdrive stormers for revenge fantasies and futurist cyberpunk sex dungeons, dreamlike replicant discotheques or if the boccaccio club existed in liquid sky. remix duties come from giallo disco favourite protector 101 who takes signature ligature into heavy synth territory peaking into blown out electronic doom.

a bonafide legend of chicago house and techno, dj skull has done the business since the early days on all manner of labels, and he s still on it now. shoring up at mentha for this no-nonsense four tracker, skull is on especially deep form here as he heads inwards with the subtle shuffle of -accent- and the insistent melodic mantras of -on the double-. the story is no different on the b side, although -rythmic- sports a more sprightly set of drums in amongst the strafing synth lines before -the unknown land- turns out one of the more eerie jack tracks of our time.

the erefora land is the first solo record by johan kaseta, lehult founding member. its a nostalgic, hazy affair where the tracks work both on a dancefloor and as the score to an imaginary super nin-tendo rpg. squelching vocal samples (hi!) and bubbling synths are reminiscent of the oldschool, synth-laden nineties game soundtracks young kaseta still cant get enough of. the erefora land is like coming across the soundtrack to earthbound after having forgotten to have ever played it - suddenly a rush of sights, sounds and smells from the past come back to you and gently pull you in.

‘consistency’, the second lp from the berlin-based techno artist. the 11 track release follows 2014’s ‘en route’ and will be released on heiko laux’s label kanzleramt, a label with which kajioka has worked with closely for over a decade. consistency lp bears all the marks of a kajioka release: a collection of deep, driving, groove-laden and synth-focused cuts. heady grooves which leave little question why ray kajioka is held in such high regard among techno veterans, called upon regularly for remix honours by the the likes of heiko laux, joel mull, pan-pot, elbee bad, alexander kowalski and marc romboy, to name but a few. kajioka’s reputation for faultless production remains consistent on this, his sophomore lp. the full, extended physical release of consistency contains 3 vinyl disks: 2 x 12” lp disks plus a free, bonus 12”.

bnjmn s exceptional back catalogue, straddling gorgeous synth-laden house, experimental techno and textural ambient diversions, spans 2 lps on key dutch labels rush hour, and numerous eps for delsin, alongside 12 s on his own brack imprint. the prolific british producer now follows up his recent ‘droid single on delsin, which featured remixes from close colleagues cassegrain and ed davenport s inland alter-ego.

impulsive and intuitive hardware house & techno from vancouver duo minimal violence aka ashlee luk & lida p. the five tracks on night gym soundtrack urban landscapes, textured synths, heavy kicks, and dense polyrhythms come together to form the duo s own brand of outsider house. citing influence from both minimal synth and chicago house, night gym arrives hot off the heels of the duo s self titled ep on dublin based first second label which closely examined the intersections that lay between punk and techno. recorded in february/march 2016 in the duo s home studio, the instinctual nature of live work flow plays an important role in the duo s creative process. utilizing hardware (sh-101, tr-606/505/707, waldorf blofeld, juno-60, dx-21, mpc1000) in addition to sourced samples with final compositions compiled and manipulated in ableton, night gym is an example of the duo s diverse interests and collaborative nature. the duo recruited visual support from chicago based graphic designer kevin mccaughey of nonporous for the distinct imagery of night gym. as well he designed the poster that comes in the 12- and screen printed a limited run of long sleeve t-shirts available through boot boys biz.

veil of light is the synth/postpunk solo project of a mystery man from zurich known to the wider world only as m. the project was born in 2012 when all the tracks for the veil of light eponymous 2013 ep released on belaten were recorded by m in a bunker near zurich. that last fact incidentally is a good way to describe the music released under this project’s name much like the mental image of a bunker it is cold dark and forces one into a contemplative resigned state. the influences that immediately come to mind listening to veil of light are 1980’s wave music post punk industrial and dark ambient all weaved together by an overarching depressive yet dreamy atmosphere. it has been called gothgaze and the description seems apt. the followup to the opener the 7” cold skin single released on edition gris and the debut lp simply titled as well as this years head/blood/chest ep continue in the same vein.

rothmans are back with their first release of 2016 and who better to bring in the new year than italian electropsycho s dj rocca & daniele baldelli. of course this record would have to pay homage to an italian great and who better than 1982 world cup hero marco tardelli. first up on the ep is a synth funk journey called kratos. rocca goes full on here and doesent hold back as he takes us on a journey of synth wizardry and classic italo beats. up next is an another original from rocca called fonk 400 another track that could have been plucked starigt out of the golden age of italo disco, again rocca is pulling no punches here. the ep is rounded off in spectacular fashion, just like marco tardellis famous world cup final celebration we have nothing short of genius with daniele badlellis electropsychomix of kratos. baldellie doing what he does best and taking us too another level yet again.
