aaaron is a producer that s been on our radar for a long time. as demonstrated by his beautiful and stripped back recent work for connected, aaaron s tracks have developed a certain maturity that has become impossible to ignore. following that signature style, the grooves on black arp, his debut ep for yoshitoshi, flow smartly from his experiences in berlin s minimal techno/tech house scene. never too abrupt or intense, black arp and keep doin it are versatile tracks for many different atmospheres and set styles. like much of his music, the percussion throughout features elements of tribal house, producing a playful energy and an extra level of accessibility. additionally, we re very excited to welcome dj t., another respected berliner who really needs no introduction, to the label for the first time. he gives the ep a rough edge with this remix of black arp. the distorted synth leads and stabs here filter in and out over a driving tech house groove, giving the release a peak-time option for those in need.

“dramatest” is a collection of experimental library music published in 1974 by fonovideo and signed by oscar rocchi (and his moniker chiarosi) - an excellent pianist and composer, who worked with many italian jazz heavyweights - and fabio fabor. “dramatest” consists of 14 slightly eccentric explorations of the electronic spectrum, casting pure experimentalism, melody and no fillers whatsoever. one of the best examples of the lost art of italian libraries!

second release comes from berlin based b.e.f., soaking you into a deep journey of the now. a repetetive meditation - forward pushing and hypnotising. b.e.f. has been a steady part of parallel berlin since a few years, so it s a logical next step to release his debut solo ep on our label. he has been releasing under different monikers, which have been subjected to quite a lot of variations. he meanwhile found a coherent foundation of a rough, hypnotic and gritty sound. coming along with the process of discovering the most genuine way of expression, he focused on analogue gear. “waveforms are not only a mathematical law, waveforms are everywhere, in all sections of everyday life, in light and in sound. parallel is one of the many parallel universes out there, living and believing in variety, whilst pointing onto respect for various life forms. we do what we love”.

stepping up for its landmark tenth release is label honcho juan sanchez, who drops four slices of heavy techno funk. over the course of nine releases, format records have established itself as a very credible source for quality techno. its tenth release again perfectly captures that frisky format sound.
first up is serpent, a mid-tempo and bass-laden belter that’s followed by the darker, minimal-tinged qualia. a different place merges detroit-esque elements with tones of european techno, after which things close with no-beatsall-fx stubborn synth.

dj t-1000 drops 4 classic hard-edged cuts of pure detroit techno on third ear. born and raised in detroit and based in berlin dj t-1000 is alan oldham, owner of detroit labels generator and pure sonik, and a gifted techno dj. also an accomplished graphic illustrator, known globally for his iconic artwork for djax-up-beats, +8 records, transmat, astralwerks and many other electronic music labels, including third ear. alan did the artwork for the defenders of the deep house world ep curated by mike huckaby, and he has done the artwork for his third ear ep also.

freerange welcomes italian via berlin producer/dj/label boss enzo elia for his debut on the label entitled the lost guitar tapes. enzo is someone who has been releasing consistently great music for many years, although often hidden behind a myriad of pseudonyms and underground imprints.

a year after his last outing on the label, metamethod is back with a second ep for nightime drama. the man born simon haynes is a veteran of the scene who has worked under many different aliases and is now back at the techno frontline, creating the same sort of powerful grooves that made him so essential back in the 90s. ‘exoshift’ opens things up with a lurching, low sung beat that rocks back and forth as frazzled synths and rusty frequencies skate about up top. it’s body music that really makes a mark while ‘autofac’ then slips into more of a forward moving groove with prickly percussion and woodpecker hits all driving along a bleak techno landscape. last of all, ‘superlifter’ marries bulky, broken sounding drums with celestial pads that glow white amongst the murk and greyness of the rest for he track. it is atmospheric, grainy techno for serious heads only.

this release - a collaboration between ali x (alphonse from azari & iii) and mexicos theus mago - turns the heat up all the way to on and just leaves it there. the lyrical content of the title track would lead many to use descriptors like sexy, sleazy, and steamy like you wouldnt even believe, and while the music also bears that out its important to remember not to stigmatize something that almost everyone does at least a couple of times a week. vision, meanwhile, offers the perfect b-side accompaniment, a sci-fi techno workout where you dont even have to think about sex if you dont want to. the ep features dub versions of both tracks for more stripped-down club sets aimed at people who understandably have problems with the sound of the human voice. it also includes a remix by curses, whom we recently bumped into (he says cornered) in berlin and asked if hed provide one of his trademark eerie downtempo excursions. long story short: he said yes.
