the music has come into my life when i was about 9 years old, thanks to one of my sisters tape with songs by bob marley and the wailers. so i switched from reggae to dub, from dub to jazz, from jazz to radical improvisation in a moment.now i m 33, and after producing pretty much any kind of music, i want to put together what i still like of dub music with that of the south of europe, which is the place where i grew up, melting everything together with vintage equipments and working with modern machines at the same time. playing and producing this music has been therapeutic for my head. making all this known is for me like seeding again the love for music without any distinction. andrea gabriele 1981 - 2015

(rather than a mere dub, this is almost an entirely different jump-up disco track) and a bonus firecracker skit.

greg belson s divine disco is a snapshot in time encapsulating the raw power of a spiritual performance, set to the pulsating 4/4 rhythms that were in vogue with the dance floors of the day. tip! labels like savoy played a key part in identifying artists that fit nicely into this brand new style with performers like shirley finney and the gospelaires, both of whom were established within the scene, but carried the disco torch brightly with their tunes featured here. divine disco also paints a picture of the lesser known acts that privately released their message to the hopeful masses, such as the gospel ambassadors and the inspirational souls, whose recording budgets would have been significantly less than any major label.

not too long ago a jiffy bag arrived at parkwest hq. in it was a scratched tdk case with a sa-x tape containing a musical message from years past, simply marked the tape i lost! we sat and listened, able to pinpoint influence and reference but yet hearing something totally new. that this tape surfaced and made it across the years and the miles to us was fortunate. when the synth part came through clear on a later version on the tape, allowing us to remix then it became destiny. emotion, melody and rhythm will always be timeless and these tracks, selected from that tape, are as relevant today as they ever were.

reissue of an eye for an eye by byrne & barnes: a true westcoast/aor masterpiece, produced in legendary music city muscle shoals (alabama) and originally only released on japanese label climax. in 1981, robert byrne followed up to his 1979 album, blame it on the night, by teaming-up with multi-instrumentalist brendan barnes to record this rare westcoast classic. if they never recorded any other music together, both display incredible music career and went on to produce for many famous artists such as pointer sisters, patti austin, earth wind & fire, phil collins, brian mcknight, or boyz ii men to name just a few.

when heavyweights collide in any arena there’s always going to be fireworks, and the violent five ep sees two such goliaths, black sun empire and state of mind, go head-to-head across four dark-edged dancefloor killers.

answer code request picks up where he left off with his album (code, ostgut ton, 2014) and 12“ (calm down, mdr, 2015): with the neume ep the berghain resident offers three new tracks, meandering between restrained club contexts and brittle break beats, machinery and futurist soulfulness. the eponymous track “neume” starts off on a with shuffling rhythms atop a heavy kick, soon caught up by first surging then predominant drone motifs, flashing bleeps and piercing strobe sounds. “meta” on b1 clocks in instantly without any build-up: its rhythm section sets the tone with broken beats while acr slowly carves out more musical detail and textures: subtle command vocals from the machine room, swelling synth pads and other chilling, athmospheric means are subsequently being added until the track’s break where the emphasis shifts towards the kick, pads and synth melodies until the track’s sustained, smooth outro. “vis” on b2 is the ep’s most protruding track: classic uk garage shuffle rhythms and amen breaks are contrasted by a funky kick and dreamful pads, intertwined with additional sparse percusion, layered with what in the first instance sounds like chirping birds but then like sparking wires. answer code request continues what he does best: combining the warm human touch with chilled alienated aesthetics.

quite a few months have passed since adam port released his last original material on keinemusik. it’s been almost too long. but then again, every expert will confirm, you won’t see a “sonnenfinsternis” every other week. port’s new ep is going under the name of that very astronomical curiosity and accordingly, the like-titled cut on a can only be the result of a rare cosmic constellation. it starts with a spoken word field recording. could it be, someone secretly recorded parts of the internal pre-release labelmeeting? we’ll leave that to your imagination. but then, all solid facts. a forceful beat, decorated with hihat-hiss, stoically pounding synthbass, rattling snare-staccato and space-opening synth-layers. finally, some siren’s wailing, just in case someone didn’t get the immediacy of this material. classy floor substance, that is, with the scarcity value of an eclipse. “working for it”, as the first track on the flipside, is rather going for the deeper realms. this coproduction with jennifer touch, a singer/producer that just moved from leipzig to berlin, is built up on a cosy, warm synth-priming, that touch congenially contrasts with her undercooled wavy vocals. an emotional rollercoaster, if you will.

older and wiser almost two years on from his tabloid-smash debut on 1-800-dinosaur, mr assister winds down the tempo somewhat as the inaugural release on beam begins its reluctant dribble out of assistance hq. on the a-side, izma sits firmly within the parameters of the now infamous bongo-tsunami sound, while retaining sufficiently luscious strings to tickle any remaining hearts-on-sleeves. meanwhile, on the bleepier arland rain , things are dragged into even chuggier territories, and should 808 hi-hats seem uncharacteristically rigid, the arrival of better-late-than-never xylophone fodder ought to assist with the appeasement of the ever-ravenous tropical crowd. mastered by the eminent matt colton. magical drawings provided by nadine kolodziey.

bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dancefloor tracks he doesnt seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrate very well. his music is at times cinematic and theres a story behind each track. bjarkis music always has something to do with him personally, but hed rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets

we pressed the 4 track hot pack of multi culti beats on a limited run of 500 jungle green records. in case you missed it, heres what the ep is all about: soul clap records welcomes one of the most unique artists in the game and he goes by the name bosq. a longtime boston homie, bosq (also known for his work with dj kon and the whiskey barons) first astounded us with his orquestra y madera album (ubiquity records) which put a modern dance floor twist on afro/latin funk and provided some of our biggest dj bombs that year. continuing to build the bridge we released his edit of fela kuti s opposite people (gator boots), collaborated on higher for our dotc vol.2 compilation (soul clap records) and we remixed his single bad for me from his sophomore celestial strut album (ubiquity records). this release is also accompanied by a sister record of remixes by auntie flo and caserta on limited yellow vinyl.
