melbourne talent mos howieson makes his solo 12 inch debut with two heavy diverse originals, backed with remix trips from marco shuttle, eerie boss and recent time to express killer, plus berceuse heroique and macro artist, l estasi dell oro. kemuri beats with abrasive movements engulfing the listener, while bastion soothes with bukem-esque grace and weight. mr. shuttle drives the title track into hyperspace with a steady modular pulse. bastions rising melody is chopped to a galloping groove to the cosmos.

following their ongoing relationship with soma records, ukrainian duo woo york are set to release their new record that proves to be somewhat representative of recent dramatic events in their country. entitled i am against, both the main track and the ep itself are referring to the developments that lead to revolutionary struggle of the ukrainian people. fighting inequality, saying what you have to say and doing what you have to do seem to be the core ideas of the record. you might have figured that out yourself by spotting a rebel protester from january’s clash with riot police depicted on the record sleeve. the ep also features a special remix from uk techno producer, Ø phase. music-wise the ep presents the same idea: the epic energy of the title track highlights the drive that was fuelling peaceful individuals to go out onto the streets and fight for their rights. an excellent remix from Ø phase follows a similar path, although in its own original way that has made the uk-based artist’s name associated with the finest techno to date. closing the ep ‘in the end’ is a more abstract side of woo york’s music works that reminds us once again: every single act of violence is bound to come to an end at some point.

the us producer recently joined the ranks of talent residing in berlin and its evident the european techno capital is having a subtle sway on his sound on the basis of this apotheke ep, most notably the title track. theres a sense of driving momentum wedged deep in the sonic dna of this track, complemented well by a low slung bassline and airy synth melodies. elsewhere huertas sometime studio sparring partner urulu adds some percussive flex to the pulsating swing set, whilst kingsleys groove swerves the sound back towards deeper house and is apparently named in honour of a friends cat. glenn astro of the tartelet crew ends the release with a wonderfully bumping take on the track.

amazing techno and nothing for weak nerves. monya starts her own label corresponding positions with a belter of an ep. nothing less then two originals produced by herself plus remixes by perc and bas mooy. while the title track >steine im weg< is constantly raving forward with some distorted yet energetic basslines the second original >verweht< is more about the atmosphere and depth of sounds. perc and bas mooy both reworked the second track and definitely added a lot of raw power to this piece of vinyl. its an authentic and varied 4 tracker which will for sure find ist way to plenty of record cases and triggers our curiosity for what correspondign positions will come up with in the future. mastering by dubit, soluxion lab berlin.

the phrase *feux follets* from which archipel 105 draws its title, comes from the latin ignis fatuus, and translates as will-o’-the-wisp. the etymology reaches back to old folktales in which ill-intentioned spirits would cast an atmospheric glow at night, in order to lead weary travellers astray. today, the term refers to ghost-lights - artificial light reflections caused by decomposing organic emissions. anyway you choose to understand it, this music contains the mysterious and unattainable. feux follets are meant to depict an elusive (and perhaps also illusive) ambition. a tense equilibrium colours the constant, foundational sounds with aleatory movements. the compositions are detail-oriented, and boldly explore their tangential elements.

opening the single is title track rain away, a smooth atmospheric slice of house embracing a lowslung and dubby aesthetic

russian producer sanys has impressed with a series of raw techno records on his downfall theory label - and his latest release further showcases his talents. dominance starts with atmospheric synth washes before a granular bass and relentless percussion propel it forward. like previous sanys releases however, this is not straightforward linear techno and a rumbling vocal and insistent drums will keep the listener engaged. my concern sees sanys opt for a different approach, with a pulsing bass and a crystalline synth line going up and down the scales, intertwined with a vocal snippet, while told you so features another stylistic shift. on this occasion, it s back to the darker sound that was audible on some of the earlier downfall theory releases. tight, snappy drums and robust, insistent claps provide the basis for a droning, murky bassline that cuts through the arrangement like a lighthouse rays in the dark of night. finally, irish producer eomac, one half of lakker, delivers a version of dominance that centres on lithe broken beats, ghostly melodies and insidious tonal shifts. as its title suggests, dominance shows sanys has become a master of the techno form.

after a hiatus from the releasing scene, highlive is back with a dark and clubby new three track emission, you ep. the compelling title track, a lightly tribalsitic and clear structured sound conception, calls you to the dance floor. a fantastic call out hook when it clocks midnight.

hailing from bari, nico lahs has become a beloved member of the stock5 family. on the latest instalment of the label that guy blesses us with his runway ep. but don’t mix up the title with some anorexic chicks that stumble along the catwalk heidi klum sent ‘em on. if there is one direction, it would lead straight into a planetary orbit. the opener “shreder” sets the pace and mood, a decent composition of pulsating synths, a vibrating bass line and a whispering voice, telling us to fasten our seatbelt because our next stop is going to be “orion”. actually this is in one of the biggest astral objects having been discovered yet. nico takes us there on his spaced out trip, while we are watching stars being born and dying in super novas. on the flip we’re finally approaching “runway” the title track. dive into a world that is undiscovered, promising and overwhelming. all in all this ep is way more than “mystic”, which is the last track. we left our planet as humans and we landed as androids in stock5 galaxy, which is ever expanding, crossing boundaries and creating new life on the universal dance floor.

chris mcwaynes productions tie in his hip hop & jazz themes then pushed to the outer realms much like his friend afrikan sciences. includes the title track, and the gorgeous winding islands of dust. afrikan sciences chimes in with a remix for islands of dust.

title track don t stop is a loose and playful thing that chucks loopy, circular drums, little vocal riffs, synth stabs and tumbling toms into the mix and lets them all groove along for almost six infectious minutes. its a spritely, silvery and slithering concoction that makes you shake your every limb. stare is a deeper, darker thing with rattling snares rolling over flappy kick drums and wobbling synths ducking in and out of the space left behind. its a tumultuous, drum lead affair that toys with your expectation, threatening to drop or explode but never quite doing so, instead keeping you right on the edge of your seat throughout. the final offering is nian which again has super well defined drums and hits all tumbling and sparking off each other. it s spacious stuff, too, and the indecipherable foreign language vocals add another layer of intrigue to what is already a fascinating cut.

skylax 136 arrives in the form of a killer ep from none other than lady blacktronika. most will know her from her own imprint, sound black recordings, where she has served up some of the best deep house and slo-mo beatdown to come from the us since the labels inception in 2010. such a stellar output has led many to refer to her as the first lady of both the genres she frequents, and with this new offering of pure-grade deep house, she shows no sign of letting go of that title.

after his highly acclaimed remix of phil kierans >empty vessels< one of the most prolific and inventive producers in the current electronic music scene returns to electric deluxe: gary beck with an ep of his own, >egoist ep<. created sometime last year during a dark and stormy night in glasgow, the track with the promising title >egoist< was at first about to be forgotten. at some point >egoist< ended up in speedy j<s hands, who immediately decided to play it, >egoist< proved its name, ripping apart every dance floor every time it got dropped.

emotional especial gathers pace with an eighth release from richard sen, a man whose cultured touch has had a hand in various strands of the uk underground for the past two decades. graffiti artist, graphic designer, music curator, dj and producer are all vocations richard sen has done at one point or another. here he goes solo with the ghost train ep, a dark and brooding release of old school meets new school house jack that takes its cues from 80s new york, italian house and the nascent uk acid house that sen himself documented with aplomb on a 2012 compilation for strut. naggingly familiar samples and a low slung box jam groove drive the spectral title cut forward, whilst sens mastery of delay is shown with aplomb on the dub version that closes out the record. nestled in between is the highlight however in *meteor shower* where discoid basslines merge with psychedelically charged keys and hollowed out steppers percussion.

terence fixmer delivers the next offering on his planete rouge label with this triple tracker, -empire e.p- -empire- sees terence fixmer in full on techno mode, opening with the formidable bass tones of the title track, pounding straight into action. -descente- picks up the pace next, driving you on with its percussive layering. finally, the shimmering - origins- closes the ep with equal scorching intensity.-
