this year sees abba�s the album turn 40, and usm are pleased to announce that we�ll be releasing a selection of products to celebrate the anniversary. abba: the album is the fifth studio album by the swedish pop group abba. it was originally released in scandinavia on 12 december 1977 through polar music and was released in conjunction with abba: the movie, with several of the songs featured in the film. the album contained two uk number-one singles, -take a chance on me- and -the name of the game-, as well as european hits -eagle- and -thank you for the music-. the album includes three songs from abba�s 1977 tour mini-musical the girl with the golden hair. these songs are -thank you for the music-, -i wonder (departure)- and -i�m a marionette-. altogether the album contained just nine songs�the least of any abba album, but were longer in length than previous albums (opening track -eagle- runs to nearly six minutes). abba: the album reached no. 1 in many territories. in the uk it debuted at the top and remained there for seven weeks, ending up as the third biggest selling album of the year (behind the movie soundtrack lps of saturday night fever and grease). in the us it became their highest charting album, where during 1978 abba undertook a big promotional campaign.

as a contrasting follow-up to our first single from rooteo & mahura�s metta album, the second single on made in green records keeps the format intact with entirely different results. deadbeat�s remix on part one was both respectful and subtly transformative, on part two, new york�s upcoming max mcferren, whose busy 2015 included eps on ultimate hits, allergy season, and 1080p, brings us a startling reinterpretation of album closer harmal very much in keeping with the vein of raw, aggressive house coming from brooklyn since that scene�s resurgence. the original version of harmal finishes the album in fine style, blending tablas, celestial electronics, and short melodica phrases that gradually swell with layers of vocal samples and orchestal pads before reaching a climax and slowly dying away in gradually receding layers of ambient electronics. mcferren�s remix leads off with only a bare framework of techno percussion. the entry of a sampled section of melody from the original signals a rapid transition to more abrasive territory, with sheets of metallic noise slashing through the high end, short vocal syllables stuttering, and an insistent bass pulse building up and breaking down with at least one element constantly in motion.

lumiÞreslanuit (alias lln) is glad to welcome back paris-based music composer, live performer and dj vadim svoboda for the 10th release of the label. in addition to be a close friend of the lln crew and a regular of the label�s showcases, vadim svoboda has also become a key artist of the label. indeed, it�s with him that it has all started, about three years ago, when he released his syntherapie ep (lln000) on the label. nine releases (plus one) later, we�re glad to have him again on board, this time with another format as he�s about to release his first album seed (lln009+1). seed is made up of two records: roots (vinyl 1: lln009) and canopy (vinyl 2: lln009+1). whereas roots sounds like a mini-album in the album where melodic and melancholic notes alternates with dark and strong beats, canopy seems - according to its composition - to refer directly to his syntherapie ep, even though the listener might find the same inspirations in both records.

thus, entropy makes for the perfect description of the way ilpo väisänen (pan sonic, i- lp-o in dub) and dirk dresselhaus (schneider tm, a s s, locust fudge) have approached music creation since the establishment of their collaborative project angel (now die angel) in 1999. allowing energy to flow freely through machines, bodies and different acoustic conditions, they�ve generated a powerful archive of mutating sonic states. a kind of creative attitude that favors exploring the physical complexity of unstructured electronics.
that�s where the title for their first release on cosmo rhythmatic comes from, �entropien� being the finnish word and the german plural for entropy. getting back to the stripped down set of their beginnings (modular synths, effects, and processed guitar), they�ve come out with one of their most, intense, rawest and noisiest albums to date, showcasing an impressing scale of dynamics while attacking the senses with belligerent tones. oren ambarchi also shows up on two tracks, intertwining his drums, field recording, and guitar within the duo�s discordant layers.

in 1973, emi records nigeria released the 45 rpm disc fuel for love b/w soundway, credited to a mysterious band called wrinkar experience. the record was a finely-crafted gem of pop-rock and funky soul as had never before been heard coming out of the countryÆs nascent rock scene, and it ended up being the biggest selling nigerian single up until that point. the success of wrinkar experience effectively demonstrated that was a market for homegrown pop and rock, and sent record labels scrambling to sign similar bands, kicking off the nigerian rock revolution that is still being celebrated and discovered by new generations today. but while wrinkar experience launched the movement, the group itself would be short-lived: after another hit single in 1973, the bands frontman danie ian split for a solo career. the remaining principal players in the group cameroonian musicians ginger forcha and edjoo jacques racine tried to keep the wrinkar name going before giving it up and rebranding themselves as rock town express. rock town expresss debut lp funky makossa was recorded in 1974 for arc records, the cutting-edge studio and label established in lagos by english drum legend ginger baker. the album showcased in long format the qualities that had only been hinted at on the wrinkar experience singles: bright, confident pop melodies, articulate lyrics, and darkly potent funk-rock. comb & razor sound is proud to present a new, fully-authorized reissue of funky makossa, featuring the seven tracks from the original release, plus i am a natural man and i dont want to know, from wrinkar experiences seldom-heard third and final single.
