for its third release, here to hell welcomes melbourne (via adelaide) veteran, rambl, and his incredible groover “doss”. this third release on the label happened purely by surprise, and what a discovery! the track itself is no accident, but the signing took place after a chance encounter. richard campbell aka rambl, who is one of melbourne’s best and most consistent djs since the last two decades, had developed a small cult following of viewers via facebook, where he had been providing live video coverage of australia’s wild weather in a kind of comedy-weatherman format. once these updates caught our attention, the magical facebook algorithm placed all of his content at the top of our feed.

when dorian paic, tobi neuman and patrick ense took a lunch break from their studio session they met house legend eric d. clark randomly at the burger joint. after a quick chat they took him over to tobi’s studio and recorded this delicious 12″, for us. einzelkind founded la peña in 2007 as a label for friends to meet up, live, and release the music they love – and here we have the perfect example of such a serendipitous event.
backed up by a juicy mfdp club mix this release gives a nod to the golden era of house music and album cover art.

after strong releases by jerome sydenham, guti, martin buttrich and the esteemed label leaders the martinez brothers, here we have remixes of stec and chris martinez own out put by first team players. mathew johnson gives us an energetic analogue workout. peggy gou gives us a wistful version of ‘h2 da izzo’ with retro drums, lush strings to give us a straight up, classic house cut. this is also tackled by mayaan nidim who gives us a stripped back, refined take as you would expect from a perlon artist. dj deeon takes on the buoyant ‘stuff in the trunk’ with miss kittin’s playful vocals.

as one of the most prolific hip hop producers of all time madlib collaborated with different artists and recorded own songs under different pseudonyms. during his outstanding year 2003 he released the crown on his work, the remix album shades of blue. the album untinted contains the source material for the project and is a fantastic intro to compare all the material from both recordings. it s a great dose of jazz in which madlib focuses on the soul and jazz stuff he used for the recordings. with songs by among others herbie hancock, horace silver and donald byrd the 12-track album gives you an indication of the way madlib created his pieces. pressing on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

next out on the ownlife imprint, a remix ep of what so far has been one of the most acclaimed releases from the label, the collaboration between leiras and svreca titled “the bridges i burn”. four well-known names to the electronic music scene has been invited to infuse their own characteristic sound onto the original tracks of own009. first out covering the a side is spanish reeko who skilfully plays with the rhythm tones, the main bleep synth sounds and his unique and particular way of texturizing the layers. a2, signed by british volte-face, gives the perfect balance between sounds and silence in a mysterious spaced out interpretation of “tilling ceramics”. flipping the record you will find new york veteran producer shawn o’sullivan under his 400ppm moniker, developing the structure of the track in a smooth way, melting the modular synthesis with the atmospheres found in the original version. last to contribute with his unlimited talent is swedish acronym, ho delivers an intense, tribalistic, spiral-maker remix, wrapping up this four tracker in the best possible way.
