following the success of last years first two editions, dont be afraid return for record store day 2013 with a third and fourth 12 inch combination of spargel trax releases, celebrating the dual themes of great seasonal music and great seasonal spargel. the contribution of tracks from certain bona fide legends, who appear under the now familiar spargel-related pseudonyms as well as some incredibly talented new comers, meant that it was impossible to pass up the chance of working on a third and fourth volume. both releases are limited to 280 hand numbered copies, and come on orange coloured and marbled vinyl with a recipe insert.

remastered reissue featuring three fantastic hard-to-find classic rump shakers from hamilton bohannon. bohannon was one of the key forces in disco in the seventies and this is him at his best - his instantly recognisable sound is pure uncut boogie mixing riffing guitars, bad-ass funky bass and pounding drum tracks. first up is the super-rare long 12 inch version of me & the gang a superbly funky track popular with everyone from tony humphries to carl craig with its great chunky beats & a killer piano groove later sampled by paul johnson for his hit get get down, followed by the groove i feel - a monstrously good floor-filling gem unearthed from his 76 album dance your ass off. on the flip you get the awesome full 12:45 minute version of maybe you can dance another slamming disco-funk stomper only ever available as an elusive 1977 12 inch promo. quality stuff!

kokeshi chooses rising star of deep dubstep, compa for the follow-up to 2012s epic kompilation cd and sampler. what can be seen from compa on kokeshi is the atmospheric qualities of his music both within the realm of dubstep and well outside of it. the unexpected a side is a beatless beauty, the perfect intro tune, whilst the aa side is the essential meditative subby dancefloor tune that will keep the speakers booming.

following his recent collaborations with ai records, electronique.it, and icon of desire, passenger finally comes back to eclipsemusic to release a new 12 vinyl record, titled chord abuse ep. the release takes off with solar flare, one of passengers most airy, housey and positive works till now, with its melodic sequence and uplifting atmosphere. on the same side of the 12 inch, surface debris de-construct the classic techno elements to build an abstract, moody, hyper-cynetic slice of futuristic techno. on side b solar flare gets then a special remix treatment by stephen brown, one of the most personal and notable european techno producers: the result is a tight, swinging rework of tiny slices of the original, turning the track into a classic techno builder..

slowly but surely spencer parkers work them label has been gaining a deserved reputation as a no nonsense house and techno imprint thanks to releases from the likes of pittsburgh track authority and dana ruh. now it is the turn of the s:vt who serves up one track, basement sweat, complete with a remix, which will then be followed by a separate 12 inch featuring two remixes from arttu. the original track pairs classic, piled-on-top-of-each other claps with a freewheeling melody that runs up and down the scale. the bottom end is streamlined and techno inclined, bringing with it plenty of raw warehouse vibes. the no strings attached mix loses the melody and ups the percussive ante, chopping up and slicing out patterns as that bottom end continues to burrow on.

in recent years spanish producer baldo has built a great style and following in the modern house scene, catching the attention of andrade who has recruited him for this fantastic new five tracker ep called far away. with a well developed sensitivity, baldo has featured a sensual combination of house and susceptible feelings to create an outstanding and very special cocktail. three crisply produced tracks likely to spoil the senses with delicate melodies and bass-driven sound. the music speaks for itself. once again we welcome our friends on the remixes. hold youth main man, le loup, the protagonist of the paris scene and known for his releases for wolf+lamb, eklo and fragil, re-creates a dubby version of in the crowd, setting an impressive atmosphere and deeper experience.

tieffrequent is a young berlin-based vinyl label which follows the idea and the wish to bring warm and deep sounds to you and your friends. it does not want to reproduce a hype or a mainstream-sound but more wants to give artists and friends a platform to get in contact about music and creativity. the first tieffrequent release is a various artist 4 tracker that gives us a little preview of what might follow in the nearer future on the label.

following a 4-release strong 2012, djebali) is set for its first ep of 2013. once again a 2-track package, the a side throws up a classic house drum-kick warmed up by a soothing melody, while a sexy and sultry number on the reverse reminds us why djebali is up there with the best deep house producers of paris. as before, topping off the offering is a vinyl loop on each side. released as part of the djebali limited vinyl series, all tracks are arranged and mixed by djebali, and made with analogue gears.

made fresh daily follow up killer 12 inches from geddes and mikki funk with the debut solo ep from rising house producer jackmaster k. though indebted to the current vogue for the sounds of 90s house, jackmaster ks productions are filled with enough unexpected twists and turns to keep the formula fresh, *house aint givin up* switches things up with its nyc electro stabs, saxophone solo and swelling sub-bass, while *get up* takes things into deeper territory with its thick bassline and dubbed out, candy sweet rhodes melodies. on the remix, james johnston flips *get up* inside out, giving it some classic new jersey bump and flex, and busying up the arrangement with added organs, while rosenhafts take on *house aint givin up* is much more expansive, allowing the bassline to breathe in a spacious composition of pitched vocals and drawn out chords.

the latest offering from the balearica imprint featuring more top quality sun-kissed gems. first up is derrick harriots *black skin blue eyed boys*, a fantastic reggae disco cover version of the equals classic originally released on the mega rare *acid rock* lp back in 1982. following this bomb is the funky party killer, david lampells *iranian groove*. the flip side features the exceptionally hard to come by 12 inch version of *praise jah* by trinidadian singer oluko imo that captivates with its predominant funk bassline and inventive keys. finally, we have amadeos hugely in-demand *memories*, a spacey balearic disco groover that has been popping up on many djs most wanted lists ever since it was one of the standouts of harveys brilliant *sarcastic disco mix*. wonderful stuff!

tropics a.k.a. chris ward first appeared on planet mu last year, following up two eps with the album parodia flare. commended by pitchfork for his lush soundscapes and hazy pop, whats clear with tropics is that he listens to a lot of dance music and he cares about production values. the synth and beat programming is as competent as anything out there, and he avoids lazy indie stylings and one button bontempi organ beats – his are crafted songs, much of the pleasure lying in his gift for dynamic arrangement, which is a joy amid rafts of useful formulaically assembled house tracks.
in common with the general post-financial collapse vibe there is less sunshine in this ep than before, and he has absorbed something from a year of intensive house music listening, but chris essential qualities remain a forward-looking wistfulness, hope beneath melancholy, something even more acutely needed now than before. oh look! here comes winter.

fluxus is danny scrillas first transmission for civil music and the munich based producers second release. following on from 2012s flash powder ep for om units cosmic bridge label, *fluxus* sees scrilla in expected fine form, and takes in four original neck snapping instrumental tracks plus two remixes from japans deep medi member goth-trad and london producer and one to watch deft. on fluxus scrillas productions run at 80-90bpm / 160-180 bpm exploiting slowfast halftime tempos yet are seemingly engineered from the sonic essence of 06 og dubsteps dark sparse dreadnought sounds, with waves of quaking bass growing under iced-out percussion accentuated by toiling snares. floating chords and hypnotic melodies drive skeletal riddims, sci-fi synthlines arc over the spacious heavyweight ruffage built for towering stacks and pitch black rooms.

since meeting in berlin a few years ago, spencer parker and ian pooley have enjoyed long and prolific music careers both individually and as a duo, with past releases on tsuba, rekids, cabin fever and plus 8 to name a few. hitting the ground running in 2013, they return for another helping of underground house on josh winks ovum imprint, following up from 2010s kinderteller ep

rainer veil are liam morley and dan valentine, two friends who met while studying contemporary music in the north of england. the pair began improvising and making drones in a dark basement before incorporating a broader palette and forming rainer veil as an ongoing concern last year. *struck* is their first ep and debut for modern love, following an appearance at the label boiler room takeover in august 2012.

following the release of *everything hits*, his debut album for rush hour recordings, this eps three tracks are among the most unique and charming expressions of policys already eccentric aesthetic. let the title track prowl through soundsystems, stabbed with cavernous horns and dogged by the most infectious woodblock in recent memory. employ the ebullient *walk up* to add some fizz with dizzy organ riffs and jaunty brass notes. or perhaps conjure a reflective mood with the tensely plucked bass lines, bittersweet melodies, and live percussion of *thick nostalgia*.

after his separation from playhouse in 2007 and the rather longish break that followed it, it looks as if isolee has finally found their new homebase with pampa records. evidence of this may be found in such unprejudiced tracks as taktell, a single extracted from the album well-spent youth. as is tyical for isolee, it defies any clear-cut genre classification and creates its very own harmonic setting, merging associations of pop, house and distant landscapes into a unique sound voyage.
