christian smiths tronic label enjoyed a fantastic year in 2011, persistently receiving plaudits from the media, scene tastemakers and the record buying public for the labels consistently first-rate output that consisted of a genre-blurring mixture of tech house and progressive flavoured techno floor-smashing grooves. since meeting in berlin during summer of 2011, christian smith and florian meindl have stuck up a productive studio partnership. having released their first collaboration - desire - via meindls flash imprint in december, this subsequent ep for tronic sees the duo take their corporation a stage further with a two tracks of slightly left of centre yet unashamedly peak-time tech house. mothership leads off the ep with a distinctive retro-electro bassline that builds into the main hook via a series of peaks and drops before taking off into a tweaked crescendo of high-pitched tones. red alert opts for a subtler approach, creating its simple but effective groove from jacking percussion and wobbly synth stabs, which pulse throughout, morphing to distorting and echoing in the break.

like hardly any other ambassador of modern rhein main house music, christian burkhardt has experienced a true rocket-like takeoff in the last year. burkhardts cocoon debut ep stopover goa has, after one year, still a place of honour in many djs record cases. also his legendary live set in the pouring rain at last years green & blue may belong to the lasting memories of a life dedicated to electronic music. the heidelberg-born producer has already worked for la peña, raum…musik and oslo, and his collaborations with einzelkind and sascha dive became a talking point, too. with his second ep for cocoon, he again sets new standards. theres nobody around who is able to alienate vocals from the collective memory of afro-american culture into a hallucinogenic cocktail without harmful side effects in such a way than burkhardt is. nevertheless, and despite the massive, forward-pushing bass drum and hand claps, he never loses the focus of his soul. so - open your mind, we wish you lots of fun with heart and mind and the considerably acid-like waffles, while the tropical-hypnotic seagull atmosphere of twentysecondcenturydrama already whets the appetite for the upcoming club summer season of 2012.

dustin zahn with his own interpretation of techno... four proper techno remixes... a bad ass behind the decks, and in the studio since 1998...his productions ended up on some bigger techno labels as well as more obscure imprints. along with ian lehman, he forged the well-received attack people live performance… bringing his show across the us, to south america, and europe as well. when he is not on tour with his dj sets or supercharged live pa sessions, he co-promotes some of minneapoliss biggest techno parties. in addition, he also manages his labels abiotic recordings and enemy records, which both receive wide support from the techno community.

introducing >the courts 12 inch, the first single from jam citys forthcoming debut album, out later this year on night slugs. a double-a side release that showcases the two extremes of the lps material - the sublime and the industrial. on the a-side is >the courts<, jcs rawest dancefloor-orientated work yet. hyper-tense club music built of skids, dribbles, passes, big jersey kicks, and permeated by an ostentatious slap bass. the result is a pounding, jacking grid of a rhythm track, moments of on-court action reassembled with robotic efficiency. on the flip, jam city links up with oaklands main attrakionz for a very special collaboration called >the nite life<. squadda b and mondrem.a.n. drop mesmerising other-wordly verses over jam’s low-slung beat. the atmosphere is dense, hazy with purple smoke and submerged in the smoggy californian marine layer.

bettina striegl worked with many crazy and fresh ideas on her own sound. shes creating her personal music-microcosm. the main title, which is called weltenbastler drives you with its sound to dance and move. the wayne harber remix is quite different. with a typical soundmix from his home in south african and his new residence in vienna! only special, only other! finally the track wildwuchs. comes along with deep and crazy notes of bettina striegl sound. weltenbastler - is a very successful publication of a new producer. it is like the crazy mind of bettina striegl.

deviant behaviour ep lands gracefully into 2012, as remain records frontman, axel karakasis, brings you a bonafide vinyl edition of three solid bangers.on the main side, solstice opens up and unfolds a highly irresistible track with a playful intro that develops into full-blown insanity. dark nheavy basslines and powerful percussion with an awesome lick of ascending frequencies is the recipe for this super-textured gem. slamming blaster is another killer slice of techno with an immaculate script, full of evocative samples. from radio-like frequencies to the discreet bell backdrops, blaster is ultimately seductive!on the remain side, the title track impresses with its dubby beats and rolling groove. what makes, though, deviant behaviour stand out are the cheeky background samples and its spot-on build that amplify the relentless loopy character of the track throughout.

here uto karem returns to plus 8 for his second release on the label, with the two tracks he serves up - take control and all over you - continuing in the rising italian stars good run of form. as well as being an in-demand remixer, dj and producer, karem also runs his own agile recordings imprint on which he explores the same deep techno rhythms and loopy hypnotism as he does with his two original tracks here.take control is a liquid track which builds in looped layers through piston pumping percussion, up-right beats and plenty of melodic drama. though it pushes on from left to right in true plus 8 style, the warmth and atmosphere that surrounds the main beats and bass is what really sets the track alight. all over you again features a crisp, almost dry production style as various percussive elements flesh out a 4/4 techno groove. hidden within each bar are some wooden sounding hits and various melodic notes, all of which are heart-warming additions to a killer dancefloor groove. as well as this, there is a more driving dub version of take control which canters on a knife edge for its six minute duration, closing out another efficient and streamlined techno release on plus 8.

the newbies s100 had a strong year in 2011 with their self-titled debut ep on stockholm ltd. an ep that generated a great deal of buzz before its release with support and plays coming from artists like dvs1, marcel dettmann, ben klock, james ruskin, inigo kennedy, shifted and peter van hoesen. s100s kalibrator and murphy tracks sit on the a-side, with a classic techno formula that includes both an intro and a main track. once again s100 leaves us with nothing else to wish for. staffan linzatti is a stockholm ltd veteran and has been one of the label owner par grindviks favourite artists for years. in 2011 staffan started his own imprint, searchlights, with the first release assembler heading straight to the hearts of the techno purists. searchlights is a label to keep an eye on and will be staffans primary focus for the future. staffans contribution to sthlm ltd 023 prophet of regret comes in three parts, one main track and two interludes which all are wrapped with emotions and strength.

two years after his ripple effect release on rush hour, kirk degiorgio returns to the label with a new single, entitled divine logic. the legendary uk techno producer kirk degiorgio is known as a purveyor of techno soul in its finest form. he was at the root of the uk techno movement in the early 90s, soon after the detroit sound went global. he has recorded many now classic releases under guises as future/past, as one and elegy for labels such as planet e, r&s and mo wax as well as his own art label. with divine logic he keeps true to his own tradition by delivering a timeless piece of techno music. a string-laden track that evolves around an arpeggiated synth line. a classy joint that shows that the heritage of detroit techno still lives on.

one year ago digitaline has released raouls very first release. it has been one of their most successful eps so far and both tracks instantly found their audience and brought raoul onto the main floors of the entire world, where it still stands confortably one year later. so what better than to celebrate one year of the label and welcome digitaline back home? same format: two tracks of deep techno, fat grooves and aerial melodies made for the dance floor. almost made on the dance floor. true! digitaline’s sound is always very inspired by their live performances and with those two tracks the boys wonderfully managed to transpose the best of their live skills, energy and dynamic. before finally being released here, both tracks have been played live on many floors throughout 2011, adjusted slowly set after set to touch every soul listening. a-side neon is a massive groove infecting the entire track through long breaks, while synth strings generate waves of tension in the piece. b-side comet is build around a big round bassline and concret noises that give the track its organic motion. the melodies of the track seem to come out of a fairy tale, dreamy arpeggios that defy the laws of gravity.

martin landskys outstanding form continues with his latest release on poker flat recordings–his first outing on steve bugs label since his stunning contribution to the‚jack is back ep earlier this year. with over 10 years of association with the label, landsky is a poker flat mainstay - and with this release, its not hard to see why.the composer is an atmospheric tech-house work out that kicks off with a tight and funky groove, and then expands into an off-kilter dancefloor bomb, with nagging synth lines weaving their way through the taut, finely- tuned production. on the flip,moodmusic main-man sasse adds a dubbier take on the track, pushing the drums up in the mix and teasing out the acidic riffs to full effect. expertly building the tension, the track resolves itself in an epic breakdown.

for our 77th release we are happy to welcome back bart skils. on the remix nicole moudaber retains the intensity but strips it down to accentuate the swollen beat pulses, creating a harsher dance reality with lower pitched moody bass thuds and gritty echoes. groovy main room mastery!
