white on white is an absorbingly dynamic, multi-layered album of improvisations made on the seminal ppg wave synth, inspired by the work, life and theories of the great, if forgotten, british constructivist artist marlow moss (1889-1958): a radical, gender-bending british jewish lesbian and innovator of non-figurative art who was a then-contemporary influence on piet mondrian, with whom she worked alongside from the late 1920s as part of the abstraction-creation artists association in paris, until the nazi’s forced her from mainland europe back to england, where she settled in the far west of cornwall.

sparrow s visit of jamaica, “the isle of springs”, during the month of june 1963, has left him with very pleasant and joyful reminiscences of the love, warmth and hospitality of its people. well! and it s from there it all started, for like oliver twist, sparrow continued, where ever he went to ask for more, and, obviously when the drinks are in, the wits are out. you are therefore left to deduce whatever you may during his presentation of this contribution. “i ll be around” (bossa-nova) is a warning to one of his lovers of her promiscuous traits towards him and the retribution she would eventually suffer for so doing. theses two calypso songs were recorded with the famous bert inniss national recording orchestra. this single 7” is absolutely impossible to find and will warm any dances in the world.

paal is passionate about hardware - analog drum machines, synths and pedals are tracked through a mixing desk, raw and unedited. imperfections intrinsic to this process are essential to him and give his sound a unique character - warm, organic and, at times, lo-fi and grainy. this can be heard throughout the ep. the voi 011 also marks a shift in cover artwork as voitax departs from the utilitarian, hand-stamped labels of the first releases - german photographer nina roders, has conceptualised a series of her unique photographs for the forthcoming ten-part ep series.

pale blue, the duo of elizabeth wight and mike simonetti, released their debut album too much critical acclaim back in 2015. they come together once again with their latest ep you stopped dying due to drop on crosstown rebels in february. the you stopped dying ep takes influence from shoegaze groups like slowdive and my bloody valentine and moves it to the dance floor. the result is a strange hybrid that some have called technogaze. this would never work if liz wasnt such a strong vocalist. her amazing vocal range makes it easy. mike simonetti pale blue is a hypnotic affair, the driving bass sitting perfectly under wight’s powerful yet ethereal vocals. daughter of babylon takes the record into heavier techno territory with its thudding bass and wights breathy vocals delicately layered over the top. on the flip side love is an unapologetically industrial number with screeching synths that echo around wights vocals. simonetti and wight have each earned their musical stripes in their own rights. simonetti founded the hugely popular italians do it better as well as his own successful record label, 2mr. he’s released a slew of records on highly regarded imprints such as me me me, correspondant and public release, and enjoys a fruitful career as a touring dj, which shows no sign of abating. wight has previously lent her exhilarating vocals to the west coast band, silver hands of which she was once one half

initially released on sonia e. pottinger s highly respected high note records in 1981, sonya spence s sings love lp was relatively overlooked at the time her album came out. sent on her final journey in 2007, the one-woman band leaves us with a legacy of exception. however, time and a small first pressing has made it an object of desire for collectors, deejays and lovers all around the world. and, though it was shamelessly bootlegged throughout history, it is the first that time that this bliss of an lp gets the official reissue treatment on wax, with the love and respect it deserves. beyond classic tracks let the flow on baby, where is the love and the reggae gem fantasy, this 10-tracker abounds with treasures, some of which cannot be found on the internet.

the people at antinote are always excited to introduce new names to its roster and sign libra, its latest addition, makes no exception to the rule. released under the moniker sign libra, closer to the equator is the work of latvian artist and composer agata melnikova. composed for a contemporary ballet at latvian national opera in riga, the music on this record strongly relies on melnikovas appreciation of bbc-produced nature documentaries. projecting the life of each creature that inhabits the british tv-program into her very personal and highly synthetized world, sign libra lends these microscopic beings her own voice. each song works like a musical tableau in which the main protagonists plants and animals come on stage to play their part in a ballet carefully choreographed by the latvian artist.

after releases by cez and ashac, high ends returns with an ep by thomas romain and his mother, famed free jazz pianist christine wodrascka. christine’s style is wholly unique: there are no barriers for her sonic exploration. sound matter, energy, forms, architecture and emotion all play a part in shaping the style of one the most unique musicians out there. with influences such as cecile taylor, terry riley or thelonious monk, no two wodrascka performances are the same. in his own irregular style, thomas adds a sense of swing to his mother’s improvisations. this fusion of acoustic and electronic creates wholly original experimental journeys which will delight the auditory senses of those listening.

the no man is an island ep is a single cut from the debut album of the same name by aalko, a new project by kebko music founder akiko kiyama. renowned for her minimal techno track featured in richie hawtin s seminal de9 transitions album, the japanese producer reveals her another side under this new alias. the project has already created a stir as aalko has garnered support from gilles peterson on his bbc 6 music radio show and premiered a live performance at mutek’s tokyo launch, where she drew the audience into an inspiring frenzy.

guede remixes is a remix compilation of dj hell taken from his 5th studio album zukunftsmusik. the release features two remixes by joyce muniz and one by paul nazca. guede’s soundscape is acidic yet minimal, with its distorted vocals and raucous instrumentation lending the track an eerie and at times ethereal vibe. each artist brings a uniquely different perspective on the sound of the original cut, whilst never completely abandoning the track’s core identity. paul nazca infuses it with trance, joyce muniz keeps the acid and adds the deep.

mandala trax aka shingo suwa and dj mori is releasing a first ep on merkur schallplatten. shingo has established the label in 2008. dj mori is working as resident dj at suicide circus berlin. they often performed at many clubs in the city. their first collaboration includes two different versions of rave influenced techno remixes by anna bolena. anna is music producer, promoter and video maker, she is an underground activist since the 80 s. she runs the label idroscalo dischi since 1999 and since 2005 the video production company idroscalo digitale. they both are working as resident for buttonÆs party at ://about blank. a1, their very first track, is called 11pm. the main solid synth line features deep kick drums surrounded by dubby industrial effects in the background. on a2 we find a heavy bottom groove, surrounded by echoes in a dark atmosphere. hand claps and white noises are driving any techno floor. the b side includes two different version by anna bolena. she produced some 90Æs rave structures affected by her experimental senses.

once again we are sending a new release of acoustic signals from the collectively-run kindergarten at berlins east cross. after a techno focus on the last release, this one is a bit more melodic and housey. with “hot lies,” egon elliut contributes a well-crafted house track, newly revised in the “zkb taking the bus version” by one of our current favorite producers, zk bucket. with lots of love for detail, it’s a real pleasure. perel is no stranger to ://about blank. for years she has convinced us with her fantastic live sets, as a dj, she is just as grounded. “opal” sounds exactly like that — a shimmering, contemporary version of disco, an album on dfa is coming soon! our resident jessamine is releasing his first track ever on this mini compilation— rough and warm, with a touch of the 80’s in sound design, “more love later” has become a beautiful, harmonious and melodic love slider—suitable more for the later club hours. more love later!

2018 repress ,how much do you really know about nina kraviz? shes a russian techno dj, an accomplished producer, one of dance musics breakthrough names of the last five years. true enough, but theres so much more to her story than that. shes one of electronic musics most interesting characters, someone who has stuck to her musical guns since day one, someone who has wide-ranging roots that run deep in the past, yet shes also the embodiment of the future. her signature sound is a raw blend of house and techno with a very acidic feel. if that feels very now, kraviz has a lot to do with it, which is why she was asked to mix the latest instalment of !k7s landmark dj kicks series.

a teacher by trade, dr mary sullivan bain recorded her musical works to be used as an educational and motivational tool in the miami-dade public school system she taught in. the single was recorded at miami sound recordings, south florida and released in small numbers as a self-published 12 pressing for educational purposes. copies of ‘do you know black history did not circulate much further than floridas public school libraries and the vaults of some local radio stations when it was released in 1985. produced with no label constraints, mary worked alongside her friend and vocalist herman attaway. she would give him the words and the melody and together they translated her ideas into song. if one wanted to categorise it theyd have to put a copy in a few different boxes … 808s, bass synths, deep chords, live percussion and effects dubbed into the mix. the production leans towards the electronic diy framework that informed the local sound on the south side. whilst the categories are blurred whats clear is that the musicians who made this thought outside of the box.
