repress ... it s been a busy 3 years since danny berman aka red rack em released on his own bergerac imprint. since then he s toured relentlessly, released a whole album of live music based disco/punk funk for sonar kollektiv as hot coins, managed to completely update his biggest track in love again to make it a hit the second time around plus released spaced out, wonky party smashers on wolf music, phonica, city fly and telefonplan. while all this was going on bergerac was largely on ice but now berman is turning his energy back to the label with a vengeance.

here we have the fourth and last reference of the “moog your body” series, in which, as always, we have 4 tracks from 4 different artists. for this release we team up with cream soda aka locked club, moscow based duo, that offers a particular vision of acid house with his track “one more night stand”, mixing low-fi jacking and hip-house in a record that will be the artists first vinyl giveaway. the next cut is 6tma’s, our franchise-man. his new mutant rave composition, “joan manuel serato”, more focused towards breaks and uk hardcore, is going to destroy the dance floor again.

unequal is a label founded by anselm from frankfurt am main in 2015. ranging from deep, spaced out analog techno to more droning, industrial rough sounds, the aim is to give an impression of whats going on in the ffm underground these days. sophisticated broken beats and modular synths are essential for this project. unequal means not to be just one specified style but an open-minded platform to express a diverse view of music within the techno genre. with his first ep called -gral-, anselm delivers some cold, moody techno tracks with spherical soundscapes as an connecting element. the title track on the a side is a journey through wide open extramundane synth layers and bubbling acid drops covered by a voluminous bass. b1 is a bit more conventional one with driving hi-hats and slightly jacking beat whereas b2 is four-to-the-floor trippy stripped-down minimalism for the heads.

the last couple of years have been huge for pomo, going from a relatively obscure canadian producer to releasing his debut ep on hw&w, remixing for the likes of janet jackson and mark ronson, and touring the globe with disclosure as their hand-picked opening act.
bastard jazz has commissioned pomo to be next in line for the fourth volume of their *tempo dreams* compilation albums, following on the heels of the hotly contested soul clap compiled vol. 3. as with other tempo dreams records, we tease it out with a limited 7 inch release with tracks from the compiler made specifically for the tempo dreams album.
*blue soda* (part 1) - pomos first original release since his ep in november of 2014 is a typical, rollicking pomo new disco joint with stabbing synths, chopped vocal samples and an irresistible bassline. part 2 on the flip-side delivers more of the same, with a little more of an introspective twist. part 2 is exclusive to the 7 inch only and wont be on the album.

2016 repress , with this ep reilg makes his debut on his own label, lofile. much more subdued than the first ep, lfr 002s a-side appears almost minimalistic, touched with melancholy - going into a deeper state of mind with its bright, clear and distinct accents - like the first rays of dawn, breaking through its background. its like a dark bokeh, rough and raw, clearly influenced by deep techno tracks.its sounds create a mood close to labels like dial and giegling, geared to the morning hours.the b-side remixes by edward and tilman tausendfreund become much more peak time fitting.edwards soulitude remix with a touch of electro strikes with deep and iridescent gravitational attraction.the derailed remix by tilman tausendfreund tops it off,with its acid bassline and house inspired sound. light and bright like a summer breeze, its impossible to not be touched and drawn towards its timbre.

detroit techno veteran terrence dixon marks another chapter of his long standing career signing for italian imprint out electronic recordings as population one. after releasing three eps on modularz, 30drop and his own outlet reduction in 2015 under the aformentioned moniker, terrence dixon is going to kick off the new year with two techno, retro-feeling original tracks capturing his typical production take.

he/at returns to his own label with four uncompromising workouts. rough beats, razor sharp synth work and booming bass merge to form this ep. taking cues from the harder fringes of chicago house and straight up detroit techno, this ep is as eclectic as it is tough.

ruhig comes back after one year with particles ep as first installment of a double ep on midgar. the record opens with particles, an atmospheric detroit influenced cut made out of synthlines dropping like voodoo spells, epic pads and fragmented beats. eddying follows up with a more direct approach to the dancefloor, 4/4 stomping beat and thin hi-hats backed by lasers and passionate ambiances. etere on the b-side gives the records an halfway breath, sounds like a late afternoon walk in the fields of a southern countryside village (with constructions going on somewhere nearby), before to start again with the sweet and eerie perle, where droney pinching drums are flooded by a swarm of dreamy fireflies. idiom to close the ep with a fast syncopated cut, showing the approach of ruhig to any form of musical expression and genre, far from traditional ambient or deep techno and going further, to reach out daring and more demanding levels.

following the release of the -eleccio- mix cd in 2014, especial has continued on it s path to develop and push a club sound that is slightly more leftfield than the on-going boompty house rehash, the mutation of nu-disco in to something a bit more proggy, trancey and the never ending thud-drug-chug of the 110 bpm ableton-for-beginners brigade, by offering a mixture of musically psychedelic, twisted, dubbed-out, proto-obsessed club eps.

home invasion is the new label from real tone man franck roger, a man whose career has scaled the full depths of house music over the past decade or so. evidently seeking a new challenge, the parisian s new imprint promises to adhere to a vehemently underground way of working and produced exclusively on analogue equipment. franck is back again for another solid ep, this time coco bongo is taking the level really high with some mpc beats, weird stabs going thru analog delays mixed with some spring verb to give a unique sound and direction on this one. hypnose is one of the first series of hypnotic low techno direction wich franck wants to go back, using some modular sequences aswell on this one. virgo will surely please some of the deepcore heads around with a ruff beat and hypnotics stabs still mixed in differents external effect wich franck got the secret.

french producer juliano delivers the next ep, entitled * this must be...*, on his own imprint * that place records*. fourth in line on the label, following on from releases from visitors for reworks, mzkbx (aka sacha mambo) and love comedy, the now berlin-based artist gifts his very first ep to the collection. as a dj, juliano has spent the last 13 years honing his craft - first cutting his teeth holding down a residency at l ambassade, and then going on to play all over france and throughout europe. over a decade of digging and spinning has led juliano to develop a refined palette and a knack for finding tunes that make the dance floor bounce. strongly influenced by us house, * panaugust* is a real dance floor killer with its never ending synth. the more emotional * anthem for a friend* is a real tribute, drawing inspiration from chicago and detroit such as the real mess with its special rhythm & blues vibe. finally, cupid mess brings a touch of japanese mood, evoking images of an early-morning rising sun thanks to the classic juno6 sound. julianos ethos is that music should stay fun - preferring to keep things simple, but always real. watch out for this one.

it’s now pretty obvious that disco influence has not only been powerful in western clubs. it has also influenced musicians all around the world, and west-indies islands are no exception to the rule. indeed, at that time in the caribbean territories, local musicians and producers seized the sound of their us counterparts, and make it their own, melting-up disco, funk, and boogie (even early rap) elements with some more traditional or local styles. apart from some obvious titles which made it to the charts, very few was known on these productions until recently. from an initial pre-selection of 40 tracks, favorite recordings and waxist teamed up to narrow down the actual tracklist. with no pretention to be exhaustive, this selection represents a tiny sample of a broader ocean of quality caribbean disco/boogie tunes. favorite recordings & waxist are very happy and proud to bring back lights on some of these rare tunes.

this new strand release on lowriders, maleza is a very personal take on bass music, juke, west coast hiphop, jamaican music, prepared pianos, old detuned synths, odd time signatures and huge live reverbs. the idea of the record came when i was going through a lot of personal struggle and i was not able to get out of it. in the same period i decided to run in the woods near my home early in the morning. i ran every day, and ran and ran. eventually i got out of my problems. so i left the maleza away. this is a very personal record, each sound has a deep meaning about me and my loved ones. maleza means bad herbs, weeds, undergrowth in spanish.
