subtlety and class are what ultimately set apart certain techno releases from the multitude of records coming out each week. with this new four track ep on m_rec ltd. grey series, echologist (aka brendon moeller) skillfully incorporates a wide range of ideas, delivering an affective and fascinating piece of unconventional far out techno.

the first collaboration from seasoned chicago electronic artists k-rad (chris grabowski) and opcode66 (todd mariana), kno-001 is a deep and techy ride through space and sound. *from dark to light* offers a tasteful, musical journey geared toward experienced listeners and late night party people. reminiscent of watching the night sky transform into sunrise, *from dark to light* captures and explores this glorious experience. with simple, driving bass, an edgy monosynth riff and well-crafted sounds, strings help carry the piece through its musical transition as it builds and ends with great energy. *dream about* subtly addresses concepts of isolation and futility as realities. listeners may contemplate the relationship between reality and dreams (and the necessary functions of each) while immersed in slowly-evolving melodies. with many incidental sounds worked into the fabric of the piece, simple and satisfying percussion, and lush effects trails, *dream about* playfully and defiantly transfigures reality into something dream-like.

the summer might be almost over, but groovetraxxs is just getting started with an impressive vinyl debut. label boss le babar teams up with fellow belgian pat lezizmo for a delightful piece of underground house music that sets the groove and gets you going on the dance floor. deep basslines, fresh drums and a simple melody are some of the ingredients to *another love*, but it is that oh so special vocal hook that really sets the mood. on the flip, two remixes complete the already-impressive 12 inch. golf clap give the track a more laidback-vibe with their trademark classy smoothness, while scott diaz turns it into a never ending pumping beast, perfect for those peak time moments. this is a release you cant afford to miss!

r-zone is a new label launched by global darkness. who is involved isnt exactly a secret, those who feel so inclined can piece the information together quite easily. it is however irrelevant to the concept of r-zone, which would like to shift the focus away from namedropping and perception based on hype around individual artists and bring it back where it belongs, in the lap of the music.

with the track *time machine*, dj and producer michael nielebock provided us with a fantastic debut on our deep circus label. his first success came for the berlin resident with the track pure visionson the treibstoff label, which entered the charts and the record cases of many international djs. his productions all are characterized by a driving groove, mixed with spherical elements, strings and synth-sounds. with *time machine* he also managed to bring this mixture to perfection in cooperation with his studio buddy leevey, thus creating a track which will make the day and caress the ears of many outdoor dancers this summer.
the second track on the ep is a wonderful remix by burak sar aka sis, who recently released his second album *confidance* on his label cocolino. the sis remix stays close to the original track, but reduces the spherical sounds and puts a greater focus on the basses, resulting in a great piece with a lot of deepness. nice!

four up-and-coming artists appear on shag edits volume 2 which is kick-started by rebels *you somebodies*, a bassy piece of looping filter house meant for peak time play. newcomer riri throws down jazzy horns, marching snares and acoustic rimshots in a slow moving *get it on*, while chockys *i like* features cut vocals caught between interchanging melodies of pulsating rhythms. jamie trench, responsible for the labels first ep, delivers sexy vocals in *locks, frocks & 2 floating sparrows*, a laid back disco joint with the same summery vibe as barmy miami night.

in 2011, we begin to think about doing a record label. we had been following somaticae for some time and at this moment he was playing some art & punk gigs with a furious live of electronic improv, on the edge between hypnosis and noise. two of these sessions became our second release, *dressed like a bubblegum*, raising the interest of people like surgeon, perc, and peter van hoesen , his remix for mondkopfs *ease your pain* receiving praise from ancient methods as well as labels downwards and avian. but somaticae had already moved forward, and in a matter of a few weeks, he was sending us what quickly and easily took shape as *catharsis*, a ten track piece which is to be the first album release on in paradisum.

hot on the heels of dj deeps inaugural kern mix for tresor comes *kern vol.2*, selected and mixed by gigolos boss dj hell. the second 12 inch – the rarities – is a precious collection of forgotten early 90s grooves. on the a-side, none other than mr. daniel bell contributes to this special kern vol.2 with a track that has never seen the light of day since its year of production, 1992 – the chicago style version of his legendary blip title. a collectors piece. the b-side starts with nyc 90s lenny dee and ralphie dees (aka major problems) overdose, a 1990 relentless number originally released on nu groove. back to 92 with sub-cultures - dreams released on hayden browns own imprint strobe. all mixes on the original and rare 12 inch are simply excellent, and dj hell chooses here the forgotten tribal life mix.

beach mode (keep it simple) is the perfect snapshot of ikonikas new album aerotropolis. it is also her first vocal track, graced with the voice of *one to watch*, jessy lanza. beach mode combines sunny salsa-like chords and claves, inspired by latin freestyle dance music from the 80s, with jessys vocals cutting in over some soaring rough synths. it is a refreshingly straight forward and sensual piece of pop dance. side b starts with a dub mix for all the vocal haters, while the percapella version breaks it down into a syncopated drum track and a slightly dubbed take on the vocals, giving it a tracky and colder toughness reminiscent of early chicago house music. get into beach mode.

after sides from matthew burton, seuil and albert schwartz, sammy dees ultrastretch label returns in 2013 with volkan akin. a regular presence at berlin institutions like club der visionäre, akin has been slowly rolling out his brand of prickly, spaced-out club tracks since the end of the last decade, both under his own name and as v for volkan. but if volkan akin has up until now been unfamiliar beyond germany, his ultrastretch debut, voltage, featuring an absolute beast of a ricardo villalobos remix, stands to turn more than a few heads in his direction. densely packed and intricately constructed, voltage is an extended groove you can get lost in. cymbals ring softly amidst whirrs of faintly melodic clicks, scratches and voices. but at the center of akins churning, percussive arrangement lies a warm and weighty kick sure to keep dancers pinned to the floor. like so many great perlon records, voltage can be taken as a deeply considered exercise in sound design or as a deadly club track simultaneously, with akins musical sophistication and knack for an inviting beat working hand-in-hand. the original mix spends over 11 minutes unraveling, but as you fall further into the swirl of akins interlocking rhythms, youre likely to stop counting. a shorter constant voltage mix evokes sunrise, pulling back the originals heft to reveal gorgeous pads and hints of organic rhythm. ricardo villalobos, sammys longtime label mate at perlon and a producer who likely needs no introduction, digs deeper into the thump at the heart of voltage on his acdc remix. focusing on the originals wisps of melody, villalobos turns in a warm, zoned-in remix that feels of a piece with the singular techno trips found on his recent lp dependent and happy

french producer fulbert launches his newly found rawthenticity imprint with 4 raw deep cuts made by himself. the significant fulbert sound is heavily present on this piece of wax. thumping drums are subtly combined with vocal cuts and floating pad sounds. raw house music in its essense.

introducing haraket, a 5 piece from south london who are set to release their debut 12 inch single on melodic recordings this spring. the band emerged from the creative chaos of school and college bands in and around peckham that have already given the world king krule. this is the first in a series of releases with melodica recordings, with an album due next year. haraket fuse wall-of-sound dynamics with often delicate source material, moody electronics, programmed beats and effected vocal lines. think a post dubstep version of early underworld or a certain ratio reinvented by the new digital century.

the second tape in the series, ferro #01 continues the path through the abyss of dubbed out techno sounds: ever forward with off-kilter resonations from the echo chamber and a pounding heart-beat throughout. like #00, this one is again a tape-only-release. each cassette is a unique piece of art – stamped, numbered and equipped with a link to the digital files. but ther is no way to get these files without grabbing a tape!

yotam avni teamed up with a true house legend straight outta brooklyn: jovonn. jovonn delivers the tight vocals to this piece of real house dancefloor heaven. besides their own shelter and baby powder mixes, the vinyl comes with strong remixes by soulstars own deep house dons from milan harley&muscle and david oniani from russia. nuff said!

a new set by the coolest chap in new york city documenting the before-and-after development of a solo electric guitar piece that alan licht has been playing out for last four years. revered for his work in the blue humans and text of light, and a key figure in his generations pantheon of experimental solo guitar players (such as jim o rourke and oren ambarchi), four years older is his debut editions mego release, representing another peak in a career of mining the rich seams of minimalism, noise and avant-garde in general that stretches back more than two decades.

another set of prolific remixes of the belgian red stars over tokyo. his building houses has been re-imagined by machinefabriek as a heavily sound-based piece that escapes easy definition.

after storming the charts in 2012 with mysterious 7 inch championed by todd terje & many others, zambon & kapsa - the guys from the very polish cut outs are back with more goods! following the successful debut, they bring us a delicious 12 inch release with 4 amazing edits based on obscure polish records from the 80s. a side is curated by ptaki, a mysterious duo hailing from warsaw. ptaki (which means birds in polish) fly high and want to keep their true identity under the radar. nevertheless, they serve two amazing cuts here, both based on obscure polish jazzfunk. krystyna is the choice cut, with its infectious vocal hook and irresistible groove. marek is a piece of wonderful balearic slow house with rich rhythm and crazy synth action in the middle. b side comes from maciek sienkiewicz, one of the finest purveyors of balearic grooves in poland. two tracks served here wouldnt sound out of place in alfredos set. song for mohindar is the lead track, with its ethereal new-age atmospherics and exotic instrumentation. syntetyczna kobieta lux is an electronic burner that you may (or may not) know from last years tvpc beats in space show.

the latest emotional response release provides something very special indeed, in the form of a new track from under the radar psychedelic rock musician nick nicely. nicely has been making music from the 70s onwards, but his music has recently undergone something of a critical reappraisal, with the likes of robert wyatt and robyn hitchcock supposedly inspired by his work, wrottersley road provides the ideal entry into his music, a masterful piece of shoegaze pop filled with fuzzed out guitars and eastern psychedelic tones. remixes are provided by invisible hands, who provide a minimal 80s inspired electro-pop version, which comes saturated in radiophonic textures, and the oscillation, who take the track into even more abstract ambient territory than the original, deep into a place where time seems to stand still entirely, drawing its rich textures out into infinity.
