the second release of inkblots involves three great artists deeply active into the international techno scene: the japanese go hiyama and the berlin based duo i/y. on side a, go hiyama’s first track ‘recur’ delivers sinister atmospheres matched with a tough kick and industrial bleepy elements. slow and paranoic drones get in and out contributing to enlarge the sound perception. the second track ‘prop’ introduces elegant hi-hats and strident synths. a captivating kick perfectly embraces the shrill synths waving together with the sharp drum, what remains of the first side is just tense ambients, forewarning the journey is not over. side b smells like a dark club firing up, indeed i/y’s aim is not different at all. ’thesys 0000.001’ debuts with a thin bassline and distorted grave surroundings. the track evolves with clean slap hats sound in an empty echo chamber. deep timbres rise and fall, turning the entire route gently aggressive. the second track is an idm experiment which keeps a trippy approach and the clarity of claps and hi-hats. solid as the first one, ‘thesys 0000.003’ sets itself as an hypnotic but pleasant moment where suspicious fragments quickly appear and disappear: a sparkled trip to be enjoyed anytime but not by anyone.

great circles is pleased to present another artist from the philadelphia underground - m//r magnetic resonance. with this debut 12 inch, m//r brings a new dimension to the labels sonic story. on the a-side, adjacent possible is warehouse primed, with its massive kick, rotating squelches and infectious claps, while texas acid patiently seeks you out and finds you huddled in the darkest corner of the room, its delayed synths turning percussive and pattering your theta state like acid rain. on the b-side, honey single deftly weaves dub fragments and metallic webbing into a padded electro structure. panthers 1 slows the pace and opens the doors to a phantom voice and lush melodic strains that slowly merge into a unified ensemble over the extended, hypnotic beat.

the opening track on this double sided gynltd series comes from hironori takahashi. speclaz displays sharp panned cymbals and sonics, underpinned by a pulsey rhythm and modulated organesque synths. the takaaki itoh remix is a deeper and more moody affair, albeit with a similar syncopated rhythm structure and some tasty modulated acidic synth stabs with filtered atmospherics. on the flip-side, myk derill s crossroads takes a turn for a more broken industrial rhythm with looped vocal chants holding it all together before breaking down into a washed out synth breakdown, then returning to the pre-emnent fat rhythm and vocalised stabs. finally track 4 sees philippe petit remix, with the artist opting for a very stripped back 4-4 hi-hats/percussive workout underpinning minimalistic modulated synth and gentle bassy offsets. the most tooled-up track of this ep.

the third in a row of split releases by the hague based bakk records is answered by mgun (manuel gonzales) and halvtrak. detroit local mgun already proved to be one of the more talented new producers and this time delivers a true trunk full of funk. the laser sword synths whip through the big space of the roomy kicks and the snare hits the nail on the head, a guaranteed floor filler. crossing the atlantic towards finland / helsinki, halvtrak shares a journey into his forming yet already signature sound. a smooth sailing analog track with trippy acid sounds - a perfect fit for both those during peak time as the early morning racers. sleeve and label are screen printed and 50 copies come with additional screen printed artwork by mgun.

a lot of water has passed under the bridge since the release of etienne jaumet’s night music, dating from october 2009. his hypnotizing music and enchanting live performances put him directly on the map. it’s just him who is in control of his ship. he moves without complexes from his saxophone to his drum machine (his beloved tr 808) while turning knobs modulating synths, and sending his voice through an echo.la visite, etienne’s brand new album, more luminous and jazzy than its predecessor, has been composed and produced within a two month period in the versatile studio. it became a piece of introspection, mentally as well as physically. in the title track, for which flop wrote the text, we hear etienne travelling through the inside of a body, fantastic voyage style.it is always surprising to see a record taking shape. etienne would arrive at the studio without any precise idea in head, approaching his work rather intuitively. he works standing up, which brings a very different energy than being seated behind a computer polishing up every detail. he is in total mastery of his set-up, ready to capture that short-lived moment of true creation. the only use a computer has for him, is to record his experiments - afterwards being mixed by jerome caron (blackjoy).in between night music and la visite, etienne has not been lazy. not only has he done numerous collaborations (amongst others with joakim, richard pinhas, francois & the atlas mountain) and picked up djing, he has also recorded a new zombie zombie album (rituels d’un nouveau monde) with cosmic neman, as well as the soundtrack loubia hamra. and he worked with artist felicie d estienne d orves on the installation satori. at this very moment, etienne and his saxophone are still part of the tour of james holden.

emerging nyc label lost soul enterprises present hidden city, their third 12 inch release and first single-artist ep. these four tracks by brooklyn native j slusher, made in collaboration with his fellow artists in the boroughs thriving experimental techno scene, are dark, menacing excursions into after hours territory. his previous work as a noise artist under various monikers (opponents, privilege, unstable systems) informs a uniquely uncompromising take on club music. slusher takes a stripped-down, industrial approach to percussion and populates it with otherworldly vocal snippets and growling synths. the result is hypnotic, evoking the severe moods and disused spaces so vital to the secret nightlife of the city.

nice price deal !!! raw waxes continues the release number four with one more original track from the noisemaker. the edition 4.2 is enriched by the remixes of korova, duo who were protagonists of our first release, and inigo kennedy, old school artist truly appreciated by raw waxes. on side c, point x15 advances as an acid robot going ahead with swollen broken baselines covering sinister and rough ambients. the rhythm gets darker and nimbler as far as the stylus moves on the decks. on the side d, korova delivers the mirror of their hypnotic and straight techno soul. drums play hard, ambients are kept happily enjoyable, while the acid synths and chords go with the flow embellishing the original version. inigo kennedy’s reinterpretation seems to come from early ’90 productions on missile records. acid elements and palpitating hi-hats, followed by the syncopated bass drum, gradually fire the minds up and accelerate the roll of weird but deep moments. pure industrial machine guns.

as the autumnal nights draw in, futureboogie show off a slightly darker edge to their ever expanding roster of artists, welcoming re-edit king mark e to the fold. the birmingham based dj and producer has risen steadily through the musical ranks over the last few years, cropping up on a multitude of top drawer labels like sonar kollectiv, running back, golf channel, his own merc imprint, and most recently a brace of albums for the us label spectral sound (home to matthew dear, osborne et al). title track, *activity* chugs at a house music pace but with plenty of techno swagger, bridging the gap between the two genres with ease. a simple and minimal beat is doused in a pacey acid bassline riff that is constantly morphing and transposing, layers of synths join in the infectious melody whilst soaring pads rise up with all the familiarity of a detroit techno classic.

the second release of hamburg-based house and techno label audiolove recordings. a limited vinyl release (300 copies only). alrlv 002 is deeply house based ep and features three club cuts of pure, padded brilliance. sunrise is a nice bassline addicted deep house track, as it blissfully sways between softly thumping bass and smooth vocal snippets. next track 13 october is a peak time house track with powerful synths and chords playing around the strong groovin kick and hi-hats. finally, monkey troopers a track of extra rhythmic minimal techno which builds beautifully with lots of angular delicate melodies that form rather tenderly.

these days house music is often about a 4/4 beat and a catchy groove. the idea is to do something simple to which you can get your groove and, and not so much about listening. the borders of electronic dance music makes room for the hypnotic beats, the driving grooves, but not always the melodic universes. leman & dieckmann have been making music for several years, both together and apart, but almost all of their music was driven mainly by the beat. but both having an urge to discover the dynamics of melodic synths and melodic percussion they decided to make an album. they agreed that the album had to tell a story, and like so many times before in music the topic became love. the story they try to tell through the music on the album *takes two* is the story of a breakup, the denial of the need of love, and the discover of the fact that often in life it takes two, to be happy.

simone gatto, with his second release on out-er holzwege ep, confirms his artistic maturity and his serene approach to music and life, even if on ones way the paths can get broken. due to a perfect use and combination of prophet 12, arturia minibrute, virus and x-base drum machine, the sounds transmit deep and pondering thoughts the artist has experienced, peaceful in some cases, troubling in others. each track represents a motion against the difficulties of life: happy and discouraging moments happen and alternate, our actions cause consequences, and everything have to be faced somehow. the synths are melodious, timid and gloomy at the same time, indicating that happenings arrive, interchange and pass over. the patterns are detroit inspired and the beats always soft and gentle, never impetuous, while ambient and pads go with the groovy wave created by kicks, hi hats and basses. a journey that has to be lived, any development it brings.

on tuff ruff the ethiopian producer blends cultural vocals and swirling synths with a masenqo lute, giving the track its worldly flair. the composition - a seifu-described mix of ethiopian folk and uk garage, doesnt feel like a dance song theres an ancestral vibe at work, something richer than the typical oontz oontz youd hear in nightclubs. as a result, tuff ruff isnt weird at all. just approach it with an open mind.

after making waves with early and idiosyncratic eps on labels like rush hour and astro:dynamics, singular uk talent bnjmn now steps up to make his debut on delsin with six tracks of experimental and inventive noise and techno. coil opens his account with screechy, unnerving synths squeals, imposing and throbbing pads and super deep kick drums that come at you from miles below. it s a hugely textured and spine tingling affair before the ambiance of berth comes rippled with glassy and alien little melodies. merge has turbo charged drums hiding beneath more unsettled synth based noise that sound sernee at the same time as being paranoid. on the flip, and suddenly makes your hairs stand on end with is gothic celestial glow and slithering synth patterns, blown is a damaged and degraded bit of icy, thumping and reverb heavy techno and azure ends on a brain soothing, chilled out ambient high. these are the sort of truly unique and magically textured tracks you would expect from a producer like bnjmn, and mark a fine debut on delsin.

industry sheds all personalized effort and tests how far you can get by using presets only. all sounds are factory presets of 3 obsolete 1990s japanese workstation synths, all effects are presets, all notes are quantized and most panning is purely accidental (laid out in the preset sounds). industry doesnt rely on successful presets, but on failed sounds of now obsolete synthesizers - industrial assumptions of where culture will go, but where it chose not to. the result is a surprisingly pleasant listening experience with effortless grooves and rich textures - and mildly demonic connotations. from smooth to kicking - a conveyor belt enjoying mood swings. as beautiful as the scheduled meeting of a pvc sheet and a thermoform mould on a workbench.

back with his second ep on truesoul after his impressive kilimanjaro ep, dubspeeka has tossed out more attitude with his new noise ep. keeping in the similar dubspeeka trend, his noise ep is dark and moody with interesting twists and turns to give this serious character. from the distorted drums of noise to the melodic synth line of usk dubspeeka has delivered an outstanding piece of work that should be commended with the highest honour. the preciseness of his synths and vocal swirls separate this from other projects and shows the class and enigma that dubspeeka is capable of.

the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.

operating from the heart of brooklyn, ny, the latest artist to sign up to ornate is jordan, whose plush deep house sound has already surfaced via a collaboration with fred p on the deep explorer compilation far & beyond. living on the border of the bushwick and ridgewood neighbourhoods, the title of the ep is a nod to the difference jordan sees between his own spiritual, detailed work and the trend for rougher analogue sounds that have been sweeping the city he calls home. with a focus on expressive, richly melodic synths and delicately balanced rhythms, his music stands apart from the wave of guttural lo-fi sonics, and yet this is still house music with that east coast punch where it counts. with an imminent release for the noted finale sounds imprint establishing jordan well within the remit of high-end house and techno, it gives us great pleasure to present these exercises in soulful immersion, from the three 4/4 driven pieces to the ambient vignette -visage-. with the door open for more experimental interpretations, it made perfect sense to invite former ornate guest leif back to turn out a remix of the track, his own hushed tones having recently graced a critically-acclaimed debut album for fear of flying. it s the ideal complement to an ep of highly developed musicianship that spells another exciting step forward for both jordan and ornate.

kazak sees swaab return to wrong state, presenting one of his most direct and intense workouts to date, following recent releases on voltaire music, push-push, jesus was black and recovery tech. grunting bass drives along one of his typically stomping grooves, metallic atonal synths giving the track an icy cool. subtle dashes of infectious percussion increase the tracks energy, with a big atmospheric break allowing some hypnotic fx to take centre stage. it is a heady, dark ride that carries a lot of weight without ever overbearing.

one to watch ibellini makes an imprint with his brilliant debut wide soul ep on crosstown rebels off-shoot rebellion. title track wide soul is intensely mystifying with a deep bass, warbling synths and warmth flowing through the atmospherics. following suit i dream of funk unfolds on a more uplifting tip with powerful melodies, solid groove and layered synths. on the b-side desolat favourite guti remixes wide soul taking it deeper and more rolling for the early hours of the morning. rounding off the ep milk & honey is exactly the type of track youd love to hear at bpm festival or burning man, luscious and hypnotic with plenty of grit and groove.

fernandos debut for leng was the universally well received mid-tempo monster *blue impala*. now he is back with yet another hypnotic bass heavy workout. *giant desert* takes the same low slung approach with some heavy guitar work from fiorucci. this is really is chugging music at its best, with flashes of vocal, analog synths and a dirty rock guitar combining to keep that head nodding. the extended dub allows fiorucci more space to hit the groove and the guitar work becomes epic.

gl are melbournes cosmic-funk revivalists and the soundtrack to eternal leisure. cruising on glowing synths, gritty drum-machines, and stratospheric vocals, gls music is a cosmic dream-sequence not unlike a lost reel from the mid-80s.

a twenty year break away from making music is almost unheard of especially within electronic music circles, but that is where antenna happy finds himself with pinto. clocking in at 9.09 pinto draws from psychedelia and techno set straight for the sun. this kaleidoscopic sonic excursion has all the makings of a cult classic, and heads up the debut 12- release on newly founded imprint reinhardt records. taking lead on the b-side an entirely different affair in the shape of fallen. this is benchmark electronic music, as arpeggiators take flight mirrored against hypnotic acid bass, for a journey into the outer house territories. closing the ep, spark holds the reigns. conceived within the same stretch as pinto, however it wasn t until some months later that spark took on its full form. emotive modular synths lay the groundwork, connecting the dots between low-slung techno and house music, culminating in a track that sits in neither genre camp. spark will appear on the digital release only. the ep title track takes its name and inspiration from paintings by antenna happy s three-year-old daughter, whose birth inspired him to return to making music. close-ups of these paintings can be seen in the artwork for the release.

fear of flying kick off the new year with the next instalment in their vinyl only series, enlisting the talents of matthew burton & kate rathod. ‘cyberg’ has an atmosphere so thick you can cut it with a knife, a vocoded vocal and haunting pads imbuing the track with a distinct 4am feel. ‘mr magpie’ ups the ante slightly with swung percussion and fx. the lofty kick drum and twinkling synths of ‘8 minute abs’ and the subtle deep houser ’hammer top logo feature on the b side. part 1 of 2.
