the windtalkers ep comes to vitalik courtesy of the acclaimed collaboration of jef k and chris carrier. individually these two stalwarts of the french house scene are known as master-craftsmen of rhythm, renowned for their tight grooves and deft beat construction. together they compliment each others sensibilities beautifully, as seen on tracks like? in my system? which they collaborated with chicago legend chez damier to form the gathering and now again on the forthcoming windtalkers ep.

dehnert has continued to steer his fachwerk label through the techno undergrowth and it has now amassed more than 25 releases in all. at the heart of the labels output has been dehnerts own increasingly experimental techno and this new album is testament to the producers continued exploration of the form. where framework was, in the words of mike himself, focussed on the heavy techno form, this album explores broken bass, swinging house and beatless electronic experimentalism amongst other things. i love to release music. i still enjoy the album writing process very much, says mike, before adding, i have noticed that sometimes the succe ss of a track depends on the light at club, which is why the album is called lichtbedingt, meaning depends on light! the album starts off with a suitably sombre intro that features cold, slowly shifting synths.

nultd001 come signed by the argentinian alexander d niel, he starts with ellie, a world of drums, cymbals and synthesizers in a restless and powerful technos key. meanwhile, the swedish mattias fridell s remix shows us a smart and elegant construction of technoid rhythms performed in a depth and accurate way. kingdom is the second original track of alexander d niel, and where he shows his most aggressive side with a wrenching techno as a continuous sound storm. ungars remix respects the original tracks style but it breaks its rhythm giving more depth and versatility to a techno packed of groove.

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. weve got the two titans teaming up once again on eternity, and there is no letting up as the cyclic sensibilities and swirling pads engulf the unsuspecting listener, letting the crackling rhythm section lead the way to the intense breakdown, reminding us exactly of who we are listening to. subtle details add to the grandiosity of the whole affair, and yet another lesson in anthem-construction has been delivered by the two masters.

upon the first listen, the work of fernando unfolds directly on your brain and leaves a long lasting feeling of drama. fernando pulichino is one those lucky guys who can pick up any instrument and write songs without breaking a sweat. he first caught my attention with a remake of the bauhaus classic kick in the eye released on redux in 2008. he then backed up this great start with releases and remixes for labels like international feel, under the shade, internasjonal and nang. he also very busy touring as part of the 2020 soundsystem band and he is also in silver city with julian sanza.
we decided to put together a long player to highlight the talents of our man in buenos aires. the construction of *float* reveals an astonishing wealth of musical ideas, brazen touches of new wave and icy modern disco sounds are evident throughout. low slung basses are also a theme that runs right through *float* whether it is the opening song *a place* which has a monster electronic bottom end or *from out there* which sits firmly on the punk funk dinner table, bass lines are clearly important to fernando.

michigan central station built in 1913 for the michigan central railroad, was detroit, michigans passenger rail depot from its opening in 1913 until the discontinuance of amtrak service on january 6, 1988. at the time of its construction, it was the tallest rail station in the world. the building, located in the corktown district of detroit still stands today, though it remains unoccupied. restoration projects and plans have gone as far as the negotiation process, but none have come to fruition. spread throughout the city of detroit and its surrounding metropolitan area, the decay of once magnificent buildings during the industrial revolution and automobile era now cast a shadow of despair on a once flourishing city. these monuments of achievement now lay barren and forsaken by city government. infrastructural restoration and city development are fundamental elements in detroits recovery, and the recovery of cities worldwide. it is time for revival in our cities, but first, in our souls. the michigan central station ep is a platform for this change.

stroboscopic artefacts is proud to welcome on board singapore-based xhin (meerestief). with his production wizardry he has been crafting ominous cuts of cutting-edge techno.>fixing the error< is an enormous peak-time club killer. xhin knits together the sinister sound of the revolt of the machines. high frequency drum machines and ferrous sub-bass synthesizers are working urgently against the clock. close your eyes, dissolve, step into dystopia. you are transported into a post-human cityscape where strobes reflect off smelting metallic sounds and deafening alarms wail. these warning codes, layer upon layer, fashion a vision of a metropolis gorging itself on sprawling noises. the flip side, >link< has no narrative. instead, this deep, brooding slice of dub-techno is composed of pure atmospheric pressure. the undercarrige slithers and slinks, interrupted by crackles of lightening and prehistoric rumbles. the result is a construction created in a cold palate of pyrite grey: bubbling, spherical and terrifying. this is dark. this is urgent. this is xhin.

the title of max coopers stochastisch serie ep, refers to his use of stochastic methods, also known as non-deterministic, or random methods of sound generation. stochastic elements referring here mainly to real sounds including vocal experiments and sampled sounds which create a complexity and richness which has been a trademark of many well known traum releases in the past. the london based artist max cooper sees his new 12 inch as a construction of different moods going beyond club music, as witnessed in the past through tracks such as i and end of reason. it is no surprise that dischordance is another one of these timeless pearls alongside these mentioned tracks that have created a fan base worldwide for him. the friction max generates is created by two sides colliding, the synthesised drums and melodies and the random experiments with voice. his dance floor rockers stochastisch serie and mnemonic work in a much more functional way but do include bits of this randomness and therefore are part of the superstructure stochastisch serie. the remix of uk producer leeks is very hip in style and sound and will please a lot of younger djs who love the cool swing and groovyness with music and will find the functionlism here going very strong.

phil kieran has been in the upper echelons of the electronic music game for more than a decade, but is only now releasing his debut album under his own name. known for rocking clubs and releasing a string of killer twelves, belfast-based phil has hooked up with german powerhouse cocoon in recent times. sven väths label is now about to release shh, a groundbreaking piece of work that will undoubtedly gain phil plaudits across the board. shh seems to not only reference every sound phil has ever loved in music, but is formulated in a completely fresh and futuristic way. listen carefully and you can detect elements of dub reggae, old hardcore like lfo, hip-hop, early 90s electronica such as autechre/black dog and other warp staples, as well as the futuristic techno that phil excels in. for the album phil went back to old sound lab recordings dating back to the 1950s and 60s. utilising some of these sounds in the initial construction, he built up tracks using a combination of old samples sourced from original and weird places and some live new instrumentation as well. there are live drums, some electric / acoustic/ bass guitar and live keyboard playing as well as some choice guest vocalists.
