black asteroid is back on clr with a challenging four track ep full of top notch, uncompromising techno. the man who started his career as a sound engineer for prince at the legendary paisley park studios has once more created a cutting edge, exciting sound full of unrelenting energy and depth
legendary studio 1 re-release! >a series of very special minimal funky music based on very small and sneaky samples, danceable music but very much influenced by architecture and by the idea of taking minimal by the word and leaving out as much elements as possible to bring the maximum within the minimum.< – wolfgang voigt on the studio 1 series. with this re-release of two tracks from wolfgang voigts seminal studio 1 series, lisbons assemble music turns the spotlight back on to what amounts to the basic grammar of most contemporary underground house and techno. along with basic channel and the concept series, studio 1 has long been acknowledged as one of the forerunners of minimalist techno, though voigt is at pains to point out the >differences between their handwriting. rightly so, since neither mark & moritz nor hawtin prioritised the funk and fizz that jumps out of these two tracks >gelb< the determined younger brother to the more conventionally dubby (but no less groovy) >lila<. any producer who has spent long hours making minute adjustments to the interplay between the simplest of elements – kick, bass, snare, hats – should know they have been walking in voigts ever-so-well-placed footsteps. this re-release from assemble music serves as a reminder of where the music has come from
NEW GERMAN ETHNIC MUSIC-IMMIGRANTS SONGS FROM GERMANY ELECTRONICALLY REWORKED
12 Inch 18.11.13
in the 1970s the american composer henry flynt started a series of pieces under the title >new american ethnic music<. in so doing he worked together native styles of music such as blues, country or hillbilly with electronic production methods to make something altogether new. so far in germany it has never been attempted to rework folklore electronically for a compilation. however, this picture changes if one redefines the idea of who the population is. incomers have brought new >national anthems< to germany, which means - even the portuguese fado, the african gnawa, the croatian klapa or the vietnamese quan ho are these days at home in germany. with the cultural project >heimatlieder aus deutschland< (native songs from germany) founded by former spex editor mark terkessidis and label manager jochen kühling all the various styles of traditional folk music now found in germany has been collected. thirteen of the songs recorded for the project have now been transformed by contemporary electronic producers to present a >new german ethnic music<. but why remixes? for one thing electronic music has recently focused a lot on the past (ghost music, hypnagogic pop etc.) – electronic editing is well suited to follow the effects of the immigrant music which the >imaginary national anthems< has created. furthermore the projects instigators were curious how >electronic musicians< would handle folk music and folk songs which is a hugely difficult task. to this end artists were sought out who could get along with the idea of each music style and who are known to already have experimented with the human voice. the results are as varied as the music styles and djs involved. some melodies remain completely intact while others are abstracted beyond recognition. margaret dygas associative approach ensured that she presents a polish song about a girls arranged marriage with a claustrophobic feeling. with his remix of the marrabenta of mozambique mark ernestus has continued the rhythmic experiments he is known for with jeri jeri. thomas mahmoud translated gnawa into dub and finaly ulrich schnauss turned the song of the italian chorus of >donni so< into a hymn for the horizon-expanding power of migration.hopefully this compilation will also expand some horizons.

our favourite swedish house duo is back…more dirty than ever! the follow-up to the previous eps moody & trapped is nothing short of brilliant. waisted with its plucked strings is classic deep house held together by a bumpy groove, soulful vocals & slick keyboard but still maintaining the formula that defines dirtytwo and their finest work to date. talking 2 u is where dirtytwo gets deep down and gritty. chunky house chords, a meaty bassline, cut-up voice samples in full basement effect. flip over for the hard on edit of talking 2 u which goes one step further adding some acid lines and a raw basement feeling. a dub for those who seek a more raw and heavier tool. local talk is talking to you!

every moment in life has its own and special soundtrack. eclectic and in its usual frieda attitude the >moments like this ep< captures these snap-shots, transforming them perfectly into sound. the three original tracks, composed by ordinary subject, sweeten the party horizon with the right groove. >moments like this< develops an unbelievable drive and with the piano play from sacha ketterlin reaches an incredible deepness. one gets totally into the unrestrained celebration mood with >a jimmy<, which rocks with guitar riffs from 50-51. on the other hand, the >cansons charmed mix< on the >moments like this< invites you to dream. while most dreams take place in black and white, canson in his typical style, draws in the richest of colors, sending our souls into a foreign world. before he smoothly sets us back into our world, he manages to make us glide on a slow trip in which the pictures start to reveal that our aspirations seem almost tangible. last but not least, the >a jimi< is remixed by the label chiefs don ramon and san marco. their >spaghetti house mix< transforms the irrepressible rocker into a bluesy ride into the sunrise.

the shadowy uk techno artist, a sagittariun, releases his debut album this november, to coincide with the sagittarius zodiac period. dream ritual comes off the back of a steady stream of well received eps from the archer on his own elastic dreams label, releases that have captured the imaginations of the electronic community for their depth and diversity, where old techno breaks collide with detroit techno aesthetics, ambient dub sits alongside industrially charged electro, and many more sound palettes inbetween.

Coloured 12 Inch 08.11.13
the cultured minimood extra label introduces london based newcomer tcherneyan with remixes from the mighty och and minimoods own volt.mar on green colour vinyl. the a1 is provided by och, producer of the legendary whalesong, and consists of icy hi-hat ringlets and rippling dub techno chords, which merge into a slice of prime time excellence. next a2 mauvais présage is a deep techno track built around a dumpy kick drum that gets slowly embellished with skating and skirting percussion and distant groaning chords that sound like sad monsters. the b side opens with tcherneyans second original b1 vision, an eerie, vast and empty open space of chilly synths and echoing voices. finally, volt.mar on b2 then reworks mauvais présage into something that lurks with menace in some desolate industrial park where intriguing synth lines weave their own path and white noise blasts occasionally jolt you from your trance. much like the previous release, minimmood have struck stripped back, deep and dubby techno gold with this latest ep. vinyl only / no repress!

audiolith - musical luckybag with a masterplan. ten years from now, back in 2003 the label started as musical one-man-show without any kind of business plan. a decade has passed since then and audiolith grew into a proper company with two associates, employees, office, online mailorder store and not less than 200 releases under its belt. but still some things never change, especially when it comes to release politics. no matter what ever style comes in whenever the boss likes it there will be a release. no compromise, no fear of failure that is what audiolith is all about and lars lewerenz is, has been and stays the musically approving authority, no matter if we talk electropunk, drum n bass, indie or punkrock, hiphop, trap, deep. emotin-driven house or electropop. his widely varied taste is the reason why audiolith still remains fresh and surprising a musical luckybag, but one with a masterplan. now the year is 2013 and audiolith is still loved by many - and hated by some for giving away golden gifts to fans instead of waiting for presents itself.

a 4/4 grumble garnished with lashings of spruced creamy loose mousse, will stay (asleep) longs for grazing in yonder meadows. more dancefloor ammo a la gcw. flame serves as a constant shifting platform of rhythmic maneuvers. constrained compression builds into an alliance of syncopated pressure points, sliding along to a gliding and well-constructed industrial & yet haunting melody. lush. again. came as it went is almost retrospect in its deep house communication. collective thoughts solidify an incessant groove, pulsating and driving stylish hands up in the air shit with it’s muscular intro volve fattens out its thuds and relinquishes any timidness bound inside, then steady paces a woeful glow. the pitter patter of tiny cut ups emit misfortune for a heady array of beautiful feelings. the thumping work out of make it strips back to traditional wasserfall form, making fundamental elements count & creating that signature groove off. in tune and on point.
