spain s javi bora has been steadily carving out a name for himself over the past few years holding up a residency at the infamous, now late space ibiza and its kehakuma parties, as well as racking up releases for elrow music, suara, robsoul, 2020 vision and moda black. here though we see him paired with fellow spaniard for a new ep set to be released via london s fledgling spilt milk recordings which has played host to material from the likes of italoboyz, alexi delano and of course its founders tred benedict and st. bernard. title-track bounze takes the lead on the record, laying the foundations with snaking synth sequences, voice atmospherics and robust rhythms before hector moralez and katal step in on the remix. the pair reshape bounze with their own stripped-back distinctive style, opting for floating pads, heavily swung percussion and snippets from the originals spoken parts. ritual rights follows and lays focus on arpeggio 303 tinged bass hits, crunchy drums and subtly unfolding synth leads that ebb and flow throughout the record. the 002 then rounds out the package with dubby stab sequences, soaring pad swells and gritty, energetic rhythms

pierre codarin returns to his eponymous imprint with four rhythmic productions dropping on wax in december. with previous releases commanding respect from the likes of mr. g, radio slave, raresh, laurent garnier, jackmaster, italojohnson, apollonia and more.

long time minimal techno pusher franklin de costa steps up to jersey city label green village to thrown down a ruckus with four serious cuts of advanced house and techno. -derp journal- may be flippant in name, but the bassline it packs is not to be trifled with, nor the edgy drums and lashings of reverb. -bogart space- is a more house-minded affair, but it s still reaching to a contemplative space using unfamiliar sounds. -good day bad day- gets into a cyclical, psychedelic mood thanks to a trippy synth circling overhead, but then the ep gets dealt a tough finishing blow by the cranked up hustle of -flashmelo-, coming on like a crunchy mid 00s minimal jam of the highest order.

greek producer markos spanoudakis aka kreon has certainly made an impact on the electronic music scene.his percussive and jazz tipped sound has found its place through solo releases for labels such as cecille, robsoul and many more seminal underground imprints. his latest offering on serialism has been widely received by a small handfull of the scenes elite who have been dropping tracks from the ep all summer hualtor kicks of proceedings with delayed vocal stabs that roll over a 4x4 kick and a doubled up snare. the bass groove cleverly pitches up and down and is completed with a series of shuffled hi hats which complete this minimalistic winner. up next on a2 is forpsyche, which encomopasses a tough and rolling drum selection with swing added for good measure, a sub bass, warm pads and erratic lead stabs bring the all the elements together nicely. third track ‘valtera’ then keeps to kreons signature laid back grooves, shuffling drum licks and the use of processed vocal stabs, the track seamlessly rolls with a series of lo-fi glitches and pitch shifted chord stabs. finally forpyke rounds off the package as it rolls out a sure fire drum selection full of swing and stripped-back percussive hits, repetitive chord textures ebb and flow throughout the composition which results in a truly hypnotic and raw dance floor killer, with intricate percussion patterns that are packed full of swing.

* after almost 20 years of making tracks with blaringly loud kicks, you tend to start producing with the other elements first to give yourself a break from the constant pounding of monitors at point blank range. following an analog filter shopping spree, i began working on a group of tracks where the low end was satisfied by the filtering, and realized these songs worked just fine without a bass drum. therefore this record is called “rareforms” since most of my other work consists of a kick drum and lots of loud effects. this record is dedicated to the brilliant synthesist and interpreter isao tomita, whose records always provide inspiration in the lab. also to master storyteller rod serling and his frequent collaborator bernard hermann, whose score for the hitchcock film vertigo i adapted through some midi processes and wavetable synthesis, then sent it through a 4-foot spring reverb.* - phil moffa

love notes from brooklyn offers up this platter from a very exciting new brooklyn artist, subtenant. as it says on the tin, the artisanal acid ep is heavy on the 303 squelches and emotional content. each track has a unique pairing of soul and heavy acid funk. evergeen soul is the clear lead track here, using a female snippet to keep this otherwise tough little number dancefloor friendly. this track is then reworked by detroit underground darling, d marc cantu, who pitches things up into funky rave territory. the flip side sees the title track feature the most soulful chords on the entire record, and then on the b2 the artist himself takes to the mic on know how it feels. this whole ep feels live and direct from the brooklyn underground.

motion (newcastle) co-founder and resident richie steedman makes his debut on jamie jones’ hottrax imprint with three groove-centered productions this november. a key component in the north of england’s electronic music scene, steedman has had a deep-rooted passion for house and techno since becoming au fait with a pair of turntables at merely 12 years old. since then the british dj launched newcastle’s motion event series back in 2010, where he’s a resident alongside fellow hottrax producer patrick topping. he now joins a roster spanning the likes of yousef, harry romero, waff, mat.joe and more. echoing chopped vocals, crunchy percussion and a meandering bassline form the basis of ‘stitcher’ before undulating drums join a medley of squelches, pops and whirrs in ‘chance it’. concluding the package, ‘slip’ incorporates infectious open hi-hats and a stuttering vox for a moody and mesmerising finale.

kapote loves the funk. and he loves blaxploitation movies. the black underground cinema from the 1970ies. kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his bass lines. melodic basslines with a heavy 1070 funk vibe. bass lines that can create a sexual tension. kapote adds a few warm, jazzy rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverbs and filtering. and the music rolls. often more like a jam then like a constructed piece of music. in the highest points this music is pure endorphin. it s 4 to the floor - but it has a soulful analogue sound. kapote says he was listening to records from old detroit label red planet and parisian downtempo pioneers motorbass and la funk mob while making this record. and yes, the vibe is there. like these guys kapote likes to build his musical trips around snippets from old funk vinyl. adding beats with vintage drum machines and creating an eclectic trip into a universe full of jazzy bits, noisy drums and dirty samples.

little beat different issues is a new series focused on reissuing music from eastern european regions previously unavailable on western markets. the first release is a compilation by project orm, the moniker of czech producer team petr and pavel orm. originally formed as a disco group in the late 1970’s, pioneers of electronic dance music in former czechoslovakia, petr and pavel quickly rose to fame as the country’s eminent pop producers. working with the then icons of the communist czechoslovak scene such as karel gott and josef laufer, they stand behind countless hits from that era. however, not many knew that the duo also released their own records, whose sound and artistic direction was different to their mainstream pop productions. this compilation cherry-picks the tracks from 4 different albums released between 1979 and 1984.

legendary nyc dj / editor danny krivits story in contemporary dance music is a long and storied one. dannys got to be one of the hardest working men behind the decks right now with an international rep and dj schedule truly befitting of his time spent making us dance over the last 45 (!) years. it makes perfect sense then, that one of the most seminal disco labels of all time would call upon mr. ks sharp editing skills when reappraising some of the jams from their extensive catalogue. tk disco is the label in question here and they ve let danny loose on a pair of dance-floor burners that all disco heads will be familiar with.

discodromos ever-essential cocktail d amore label launches into action once more with the ear candy of komodo in tow. magic hour manages to work classic piano house tropes into a suitably cosmic headspace that s loaded with reverb and all things trippy, but its relatively grounded compared to the exotic meditation that the backwoods manage to conjure up on their oriental dub of the track. lizard dance channels early trance vibes to great effect in a celebration of early 90s rave mysticism and then sand dunes offers up a bubbling, friendly twist on acid house. using familiar tropes but still maintaining originality, from start to finish this is a classically rooted record with something to say.

daze makes a first appearance on torn hawk s valcron video label with a distinctive trio of adventurous jams hovering on the fringes of the dance. slums of grand central is certainly crafted with the party in mind, but it s a more introspective kind of get down for those who like popping at a slower tempo. torn hawk then takes the track to task with a tense revision that comes on like uneasy 90s electronica before decor lays waste to the surroundings with a slamming remix that pushes into hard techno territory while retaining the wistful tones of the original.

when psychemagik’s danny mclewin decided to launch spacetalk records, he didn’t just want to reissue rare material. from the start, one of his stated aims was to deliver fresh new versions of obscure cuts from his record collection. it’s perhaps fitting, then, that the label’s second 12” breathes new life into a suitably little-known gem: avant garde’s 1982 euro-boogie b-side, “everybody’s lover”.

supported by oscar mulero, jonas kopp, the advent, zadig, blawan, pfirter. the fifth release on dimi angelis angls label is here, featuring four original tracks. opener eye of the storm v1 is all about its hook. powerful yet playful, its loopy nature masks raw, driving techno hiding underneath. a foundation that is also very much present in electric tree. the second banger on this side of the ep almost sounds like analog equipment in conversation with itself. trippy, moving and constantly changing. on the flipside, speed boarding is growling lead synth propels the track forward, opening up and showing a glimpse of its contained grit every now and then. closing down the four-tracker, eye of the storm v2 trades some of the raw feel of its a-side counterpart for a more introvert, subtle vibe, making it.

mono junk’s cult label dum records is back with a new five track various artists ep that again packs a vital punch. he appears himself along with some fellow legends of the scene. first up, morpholgy is a consistent performer who has continued to serve up quality electro since 2009 and here serves up a hot new piece. ‘vector plant’ is busy and industrial, slick and metallic as it unfolds and burrows deep into your veins. then comes the a2, irwin berg featuring freestyle man (aka finnish moodmusic boss sasse aka klas lindblad) with a track made in 1995 and never released before. this pair worked together and made a cult electro record for sähkö recordigs in 1998 and this one is just as impactful. it is frosty and frazzled, slow motion but high impact and full of distorted lines and heavy drums. next is mr velcro fastener who were the first kings of electro to come out of finland and between 1999 and 2006 were famous all over the world. their brand new cut ‘almost there’ is a deep one that is riddled with bleeping melodies and has smeared chords bringing a sci-fi feel. then it is mono junk’s turn to dive into the vaults with an unreleased track from 2005. ‘feeling or destroy’ is a physical number with crashing hits and snaking, gurgling bass that is dark and dystopian. last of all comes irwin berg with mono junk as new york city survivors. says the dum boss, “our unreleased track here was made after the new york city survivors – static light cd 2002” and it is a turbo charged track with screwed up grinding bass, icy hi hat rhythms and menace in its grooves.

after a succession of new signings including recloose, tom trago and paul woolford - aus music return to their original roster and roll out another solid 3-track ep from label mainstay huxley who - in a monumental pairing - enlists the help of chicago legend roy davis jr. with a grand total of 8 aus records under his belt including his lauded lp blurred - huxley continues to return with a sound that typifies the label - intricate dance that music that packs power and emotion in equal measures. the rag & bone ep kicks off with do you feel me - a track that seed roy davis jr. and huxley meld moody synths with a tough, rattling low-end. a striking vocal runs over subtle flecks of acid and bending melodies that make for a pensive trip before weapon 3 dials carl craig-esque tension with rough, tribal drums and razor sharp sweeps. the dub of weapon 3 then mellows the tone of the original and rounds off a varied pack of dance floor bombs.

la dame noir is one of marseille s most reliable outposts for serious disco-flavoured grooves both in the club and as a label, and now they make the leap to vinyl with a crucial collection of remixes from serious heads. pete herbert steps up first to rework m.u.s.i.q.u.e s -over to you-, turning the original into a simmering, noirish burner with speak and spell vox in the foreground. meanwhile herbert s take on nouveau rom s -timide comme un ange- is a looped-up dream of a groove that positively takes off when the peak section kicks in. dj steef then echoes the remix choices on the b-side, subtly edging the nouveau rom track into an even airier version before creating an emotional twist on -over to you-.

new years deal - the next chapter in the creme organization ecplise series comes from cosmic garden with three original tracks and one remix from orgue electronique. little is known about cosmic garden other than he is from southern italy and has had two eps out in 2016, one on hotmix and one on cosmic rhythm. he heads out the blocks here with reptilian treant , six minutes of lo-fi deep house that is roomy and atmospheric. lazy synths bring soul and a gentle chatter of claps and hits helps drive it along. rare centaur is also way below the surface but is darker and more celestial, with turbulent bass, frantic claps and angelic chords glowing like a white light at the end of a tunnel. dutch house and electro don orgue electronique then remixes reptilian treant into something that is slick and serene, with metallic lines dancing above rubbery drums as big piano chords boucle up top. it is joyous and colourful and truly majestic before final track apocalyptic moose takes us back down into a mournful house vibe that echoes chicago with its roughhewn analogue textures and lovestruck chords.

the inaugural release from raffaele attanasio’s letters from jerusalem represents a dark descent through various musical forms. the name of the label itself pays homage to jerusalem as a city and its metaphorical location at the center of the earth. the ep, then, is an extension of this imagery in its use of music as a descriptive source of the emotions that lie within man’s innermost recesses. credible threat, though ambitious in its breadth, is cohesive in its style and sound design: brooding, industrial, and percussive, this release is a shadowy and refreshing installment from a rising star in the underground scene.

channeling the spirit of moodymann, rick wilhite and other such detroit house greats, guilhem monin follows up on the promise of his debut for colors last year with this sizzling slice of rough hewn deep house gold where the samples stay locked in the groove and the atmosphere of the room is captured forever on the record. -social music- would surely not sound out of place on kdj, while -i plan to stay a believer- calls upon the warming tones of rick wade et al amidst an irresistible 909 house bump. -vlg- gets a little more sassy with its choppy edit style, and then -people- brings in a fist-pumping riff to hit the sweet spot later in the night.

having originally surfaced on creme organization back in 2002, luke eargoggle and ronnie johansson s monkeyshop project is an intermittent treat that offers the best of warm synth-led electronic disco. on their second outing for ali renault s vivod label (after the excellent escape from the mental zoo ep in 2014) the pair bring yet more of that addictive, utopian dance magic on this new record. -island of love- is indeed a romantic club burner with smatterings of vintage synth pop in its bones, while -heartbreak- takes a more overtly italo direction and sounds just as strong with it. obergman then takes -island of love- to task with a respectful remix that shines a few different synth lines and beat patterns through the same fuzzy prism.

coyote s release their 4th album song dogs. 7 tracks of percussive elecronic mediterranea. opening side 1 is jamon y quesa and chuggy bass driven soundtrack to an early afternoon drive through dusty scrubland to the beach. track 2 natural way is a mellow meditation on becoming a clear thinking wise man. track 3 falling leaves conjurs up lazy moments taking the time to appreciate the beauty the simple things around us. side 2 close with the haunting and soothing herbal remedy side 2 opens with tanits groove a beautiful balearic homage to the godess tanit the warrior goddess of dance, fertility, creation and destruction. the protector goddess of ibiza. featuring the guitar of long time coyote collaborator saro tribastone. track 2 no time to play is a powerful uplifting elecronic groove to welcome a sunrise, i feel the vibration finally the album closes with cala conta sunset. an ambient memory of a brief monent in time on the cliffs of cala conta watching then sun set into the mediterranean sea.

continuing their uncompromising fusions of artists new and old, contort yourself return with a punishing array of industrial thuggery from hardware manipulators you wouldn t take home to your mother. novacom were last seen on slumdiscs back in 2014 and here bring a fast and gnarly rhythmic tryst to bear before jk flesh do their own snagging dance with oppressive synths and drums twirling into a heavyweight whole. french brutalists le syndicat then dominate the b-side with their confrontational bastardisation of techno and industrial, making the perfect source material for ekman to get nasty with on his remix of -maximalist-.

hudd traxx first release of 2016 comes from parsian house don chris carrier after the label had a big year in 2015 with their 10th anniversary. back to business then and no messing around on this one as carrier delivers 4 slices of gloriuosly crafted house music with something to please everyone. cycle psycho is a raw house groove that filters the main hook up and down throughout the track accompanied by heavy beats reminscent of early cross section releases. dimension 5 is a cheeky acid number that carrier has done so well in the past and he delivers here once again with this. flip for the b side and find more groovy head nodding material with smoke and flesh. tough beats and a trippy vocal with various hits make this one a sure fire future hit. chris rounds things up nicely on b2 with a sleezy deep one for the heads entitled flying sausage.2016 looks set to be another good one for hudd traxx hq.

san fran-based artist, tape_hiss releases his second ep on love notes and you can clearly hear both his sound and the label s maturing in tandem. moving on from the depth of his first record, love is a dog from hell, tape_hiss takes things into headier waters, going heavy on the acid and the rugged basslines on this 4 track ep. angelian war storm begins in exactly that fashion, with 303s squelching and bassbins rattling. this continues through the clear standout trackout, the vivian girls. the gears shift a bit on the b1 where sistrum boss, patrice scott is allowed to rework the vivian girls and does so in a warbly, dirty jazz fashion. tape_hiss then closes things out with the title track, realms of the unreal, which uses an appropriate sample annoucing, “this is me, yo. right here”, and it does very much sound to us like this budding artist is annoucing himself to the world in a most proper fashion. we can’t wait to hear what comes next from both artist and label.

the symbiosis piece by malcolm pointon was very interesting and is the kind of use synthesizers should be put to. synthesizers should explore new sounds rather than imitate conventional ones... practical electronics magazine c.1975 malcolm pointon was born in 1940, stoke on trent. he spent his life and career in tape, synthesizer and keys, academia, sound, music and machine. here, for the first time, public information and ian helliwell present the rarely heard works of malcolm pointon. with permission given by malcolms widow barbara, helliwell has compiled an lp of material taken from master tapes of home-recorded, never released electronic material.

scubas entry in the revered fabric mix series features four debut-making artists, three of whom, isaac reuben, glaskin, blursome, feature on the present sampler 12inch alongside the already-emerging talent of tallmen785. together they cover a rich gamut of style. tallmens gear-shifting opener a charge of the techno brigade replete with live drum fills leads into blursomes compact, broken, nocturnal outcry. isaac reuben then messes with structure and genre, bringing deep house tropes into a lofi, rough and raw world before glaskin blow the door wide open right at the very end to reveal their cavernous, ultra deep field. you’ll be hearing a lot from all of them on hotflush in the coming months, so for now let the music break the ice
