argot excavates an unexplored corner of chicago house history. lab work 91-96 collects the work of chris ike and john kardaras, two chicago producers with few records to their names but a wealth of compelling unreleased material waiting in their archives. the compilation highlights the pair’s particular vision and musical breadth across 14 tracks, drawn from a cd-r given to steve mizek in 2010 that was recently rediscovered. lab work was remastered in it’s entirety by dietrich schoenemann, sounding much at home today yet intimately connected to a formative time in chicago house history.

Æ is a particularly icelandic form, pronounced “i” in english, bjarki thinks it just looks good. here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago. bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrates very well. his music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.

dizzy whizzards brauen ihren boombap-trank aus synths, samples und einer prise rattengift. die nürnberger hiphop crew nimmt den zuhörer auf ihrem album mit auf eine reise durch verschiedene facetten ihrer musik, die aber immer die eindeutige handschrift des producers trägt. vermittelt wird eine düstere bis apokalyptische stimmung, der es aber nicht an galgenhumor mangelt, wenn beispielsweise ’darwins rache‘ verkündet wird. bevor die tiere allerdings die herrschaft über den geschundenen planeten erde wieder an sich reißen, verbreiten die zauberer ihre prophezeiung des untergangs auf unterhaltsame und mitreißende weise. live verwandeln sich fünf bühnenerfahrene mcs (big roo, jeph smart, professor ha, bobsen und molemann) vor den augen der zuschauer in die hohepriester düsterer raprituale. vervollständigt wird der hexerzirkel von dj just, der als turntablist schon auf der itf (international turntable federation) überzeugen konnte. während der sessions zur aufnahme des albums entwickelten die magier neben ihrem unverwechselbaren soundbild auch einen einzigartigen slang, der den zuhörer dazu herausfordert, selbst herauszufinden, was es mit ihrer zahlenmystik auf sich hat. tracks auf diesem album
