VIENNA ORCHESTRA (LP)
12 Inch
08.07.16
u has always displayed an unironic conformity to his own absolutely genuine/occasionally challenging ideal as to what a release should entail. after a series of predominantly, and (in the most loving sense) maybe begrudgingly, dance floor oriented eps, vienna orchestra is a long overdue insight into his core fascination as a musician, making complex and intriguing experimental pieces that belie the humble mode of their creation, recording from vinyl records and manipulating the audio on old school samplers. this lp is an insight into scores of hours of twiddling with loops and sequences to create music far removed from its source material (dusty classical records acquired on a trip to vienna). this is a dense, blunted world, which holds the sound of a musician indulging their own ear’s obsessions and insatiable curiosity.

LAST OF THE NATIVES / ENEMY OF ENEMY IS FRIEND
12 Inch
06.07.16
juan ramos lives on planet earth but channels voices from the aether. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, last of the natives shows us just what we’re dealing with, a master manipulator of sound and consciousness. juan culls the toughest kick drums and thickest latex bass slaps from a deep burial in our psyche and peppers them with alien chants and fleeting electronic flutes—a combustible sense of spontaneity that may at first appear chaotic but after fully immersed in juan’s demented world, we find ourselves willfully under his control. on side b, enemy of enemy is friend also sets off from a disorienting place where a slow progression of acid, shakers and toms takes a good minute to allow us some footing around the groove. once settled into his sophisticated rhythm, juan opens the door to a glorious combination of chords, clanking guitars, shakers that scrub back and forth and the occasional smear of paranormal synth. we at the esp institute are enamored by juan’s seemingly infinite skill for crafting mood and extracting optimism from darkness, but seriously, what color speedotm should she wear this summer?

that night, we answered a regular call, something about crazy loud noises coming out from a basement. while driving to the area all i could think when i first heard the bass stomping was: “man, whatever, this doesn t even sound like music to me.” and we were at least a 100 meter away from the source of the sound. when we got there, after knocking several times on the door, we decided we had more than enough probable causes to bust in. after a warning, we kicked the door open. what we saw inside was a five feet tall woman jumping around in that cacophony. we screamed and she ignored us, my colleague then panicked and shot her with his taser several times – she then simply pulled the probes out of her body shouting moments moments – and continued to jump around..

SINK THIS SHIP (ROBOT KOCH, BEBETTA RMXS)
12 Inch
05.07.16
with the release of their last album “smoke” (2013) dapayk & padberg moved to a listening oriented direction, that also works perfectly off the dance floor. the new single “sink this ship” underlines their decision to follow this path in the future … maybe even with their upcoming album “harbour” later this year. on “sink this ship” eva padberg unfolds her matured voice, which shows more confidence than on previous records. dapayk skillfully puts her voice in a common scenery, where the straight beats are long over and where is space for extravagances and inventiveness. however, this is not a radical change turning away from the club sound. two of the most sought-after remixer artists at the moment, robot koch and bebetta, ensure the suitability for the dance floor. robot koch skillfully disassembles (for which he is known) the original. primarily he builds his version on the emotional base of eva’s vocal part and dapayk’s warm bass line. however, on the flip side, there is almost a contrasting change. the slight melancholy of the original track gives way for a typical bebetta techhouse beat, that flows through the club in a dreamy, yet simply irresistible manner.

CONSIGNIA (TRUNCATE / YALEESA HALL DUB REMIX)
12 Inch
05.07.16
forceful, industrial and acidic, kamera’s ‘consignia’, taken from his ep ‘ventoux’, arrives reworked by two producers each as uncompromising as the source material. truncate steps up to delivers a remix that further encapsulates his precise vision of deep, raw techno. choosing to boldly strip back the foundations of the original track, his powerful rework performs subtle but precise surgery, creating a tense masterpiece of sustain and release, enveloping the dancefloor in thunderous claps and jittering rave samples. meanwhile, the so far elusive yaleesa hall is tapped for an offbeat, dub version of consignia, twisting the track into something altogether darker and stranger. a muddied, dare we say filthy bassline supports a chaotic framework of unpredictable drum patterns and mechanized noise, while still maintaining a hallucinogenic groove as the track’s original elements gasp for air underneath.

DUB DISCO PRESENTS AUSSTEIGER (180G VINYL)
12"
04.07.16
all good things take time, aussteiger said once. and indeed, it took a serious amount of time to get everything set for what soon will be known as dub disco s first release! we’ve been digging deep inside his tune collection. not only to make sure that the first three-tracker is a belter, but that it also showcases exactly the kind of musical approach we wanted as our personal imprint: to hell with a boring and homogeneous release that only represents one genre! we were looking for something that stands for itself, something that tells a story, something that is representative for what the artist stands for in a musical sense. and after a tedious quest, we carefully curated something we think is dope! kicking off the number one is a track disclosing the joint forces of berlin-based collective of musicians los wawis and aussteiger s capabilities as a remixer. here appears a psychedelic version of the track, which is carried by gentle guitars, a dubby bassline as well as the funky-trippy synthesizers that usher a tropical vibe onto the dancefloors. the starter on the flip is entitled “heimat” and comes around as a melancholic interpretation of aussteiger’s time in exile, a period that enabled him to craft his very own style. there is not much to say about this bomb that the ear doesn t catch instantly: this one is an honest earworm, with it s irresistibly arranged horns and a pervasive and driving bassline. to finish everything off, we went for a nasty banger, that carefully blends different aspects of the raving side of dance music. the electrifying broken beat and it’s haunting bassline are blended with an intense influence of acid.
our planet… is next!? yes, this is in fact the case, at least according to one stockholmdwelling, 30-something (wishes-he-was-a) failed pop star, real name arvid wretman. just how he fell from his position as poster boy of kärrtorp’s ever-vibrant noise scene to the pill-popping, cher-covering discotheque pleaser standing before us today, we could not tell you. what we do know is that studio barnhus stands ready to ride that cash train all the way ’til the bitter end! so yeah, wanna pop some pills? or do you wanna chill? varför alltid dansa och spela det ena? …and do you, or not, believe in life after love? these and many other questions are posed, but never answered, on this ypin ep, the starting point of what we hope will be a particularly lucrative bizniz venture between those two powerhouses of scandi-tronica, your planet is next and studio barnhus. ps. your planet is next’s live show will bring added marketing value and guaranteed customer satisfaction to your dance party.

guitarist rolando bruno hails from buenos aires and got his start playing a raw brand of garage and punk with his band los peyotes. a few years back he took a step into the not-so-distant world of afro-peruvian psicodelico that s had a recent renaissance throughout south america. what made his early forays into a more tropical branch of fuzz so unique was his accompanying band-or lack thereof. armed with an electric guitar and self-produced and recorded backing tracks, rolando bruno and his orquesta midi jet-setted across europe and japan as a mad scientist one-man band, laying down a relentless style of chicha classica gone loopy that earned him several tours and a full-length album with the swiss imprint, voodoo rhythm. originally recorded in 2011 and now remastered and presented by names you can trust on vinyl for the first time, these two tracks are a glimpse into rolandos prolific electric madness and a lysergic-laced pointer towards things to come from the talented six-stringer.

new emmanuel top label. lost in berlin is a mechanical angry monster with multiple arms that swings around for destruction. it’s unstoppable for words, you have to accept the fact that you have been hit by a concrete wall. what i love in records is the menace inside it that builds up. the impossible energy that drags you in to this tunnel of a white dimension with grey electric colors. bipolaire: it all starts with a kick, not a simple kick but a et kick and before you know it you are struck by lightning. the subs are playing with you, simple but again with atomic temperature. the acid sound that hits you is never going to surrender his inferior temper. capture: only that words remind me of the spirit capture and it’s not easy make an equivalent of the original that is not even made with the inspiration of the mod wheel. it’s not just a wicked intro that can take you to different roads. you can decide what way you will take but be careful with what comes next.

the hidden meaning of number 13 is change, the death of something and its rebirth. this is the idea behind gabriel dor & bordoys new album 13, which is meant to be a turning point on their career. influenced by old school techno but also by modern sounds, after 6 years of production partnership, theyve decided to release their first entirely unpublished lp. the album, made out of 13 cuts, starts with a dark intro that paves the way into a forceful kind of techno, followed by vintage sounds with gloomy touches and sometimes even emotional ones. they have used many instruments and samples discovered along the way on this composition process, plus lots of others found in the previous years. the sounds put together on this album have been carefully picked to preserve their uniqueness, while trying to walk on a different path.

everything i know and i will never know about you is a journey through electronica, deep-house and pop, driven by the endless and timeless sources of inspiration that are love and life. prior releases on powerhouses diynamic, get physical and third ear have pinpointed denite’s sound at the border of deep and tech-house but his long player debut is, sonically, a fresh new adventure. the spanish producer takes a developed and matured sound into deeper dimensions of self-reflection, exploring new sonori- ties while remaining loyal to his early influences with strong personal touches on drums and keys. everything i know and i will never know about you is a bold move for denite, who comes a step closer to achieving his artistic vision. tracks like when i go out and the art of letting go embody the album’s innate dance-floor nature while songs like berlin see the spanish producer looking square towards new horizons and musical ambitions. club-friendly while staying geared towards the headphones, everything i know and i will never know about you reads like a bridge between two love stories with similar paths and mirroring endings. opening with the slow, pulsating sound of a heartbeat, it follows the universal cycle of the highs and lows of a relationship, closing on brighter promises and new potentialities.

repress 2016 , rudolfs new nervmusic release is a bass-bin destroyer that has enough strange psychedelic details hidden in the grooves to keep things lively. recorded in london >join the army with me ep< delivers a special selection of long playing minimal jacking dance floor hymns with style that makes us happy in techno today. this is bass-heavy nasty shit, at times almost bordering on a tribal vibe, while retaining a fucked up surrealist dance music vibe. experimental grooves and patterns will portal our consciousness in to the world of psychedelic and spontaneous vibes. not surprising that daze maxim should be involved in a project this dirty-funky yet sonically wild... daze turns in a remix of the adventurous b-side >join the army with me< that irons out some of the stumbles, brings his bouncy basslines, and injects some jack into the box.

after showcasing the debut releases from the high on wye quintet (magic mountain high, soulphiction and steevio) and monoak, the freerotation label returns with a various artists 12” featuring four more artists intrinsically linked by the annual festival. anthony child, aka surgeon, has been a regular fixture since first appearing at freerotation in 2011. his recent exploration of modular synthesis and use of the buchla music easel has found a home in the ambient yurt at the festival, and equally has manifested in album projects such as 2015’s electronic recordings from maui jungle vol 1. “unconscious fearless determination” follows on from this more experimental, less dancefloor-focused side to child’s work, while still pulsing with the techno fundamentals that quickly defined him back in the mid ‘90s. duckett hails from north wales, and has been a key part of the freerotation fabric since the beginning of the event. after some releases on mindtours, mindyourhead and sthlmaudio back in the mid-‘00s, his music has started to reach a new audience through releases on untilmyheartstops and a clutch of lauded live performances. “breaks my heart when i remember that day” captures the alien synthesis and emotional heft that singles duckett out as such a remarkable artist. steevio is the co-founder of freerotation and mindtours records, responsible for a huge swathe of techno releases reaching back to the ‘90s. as well as his releases on mindtours, he has recently appeared on untilmyheartstops and in collaboration with pev on schmorgabsord, and is set to appear on russ gabriel’s new label rivers of groove. with its expressive swells of off-kilter melody and snaking drum lines, “pendulum” continues the thread of exploration steevio has been following on his journey into experimental modular techno. tom ellis has been prolifically issuing forth material in a soul-enriched space in between house, techno and funk for more than ten years. from running the acclaimed trimsound label to releasing albums and singles on telegraph, archipel, hartchef discos and more recently ethereal sound to name but a few, tom’s recorded work and immersive live performances continue to reach out to new moods and timbres. “as a take” finds tom at his most reflective, layering on dubby effects and organic instrumentation in a truly meditative end to the ep.

nice price deal !!! macro has been the home for the albums of some of electronic music’s most exciting live acts. so when a live band enters this context, it should better enter with a bang. kuf do just this with their album debut. the three-piece outfit with keys, bass and drums cooks up a sound that is as warm, cozy and exciting as it is utterly alien. the rhythm section hints at the great history of dirty funk and bouncing r’n b, but the grooves are firmly of today: dance-centered, thrillingly interactive and broken up at the best possible joints. the bewildering thing about kuf is that it is a vocal-led group that has no singer on stage at all. all vocal elements are based on self-recorded samples which keyboard whizz kid tom schneider melds and bends and squeezes in real time. as if it was the most natural thing to do. with no artificial synchronization in place, valentin link on bass and hendrik havekost on drums push the disembodied voices into an arena of hyperintegrated realtime magic of rough soul, intertwined by improvised outbursts and shaped with the aesthetics of raw mpc-based cut up techno.
limited edition of 300 copies worldwide w/ special colour print gold & black, 140 gram 12inch vinyl. tre, the third release from italys backwords, is an intimate, muscle-and-sinew-deep exploration of the mysterious meeting point of man and machine, here, pardo and vintage synths, drum machines and miscellany from the second half of the last century. twitchy beats, crackling textures and layers of tape distortion conjure a hallucinogenic universe that owes as much to heavy dub as it does to the techno-futurist optimism of the early modular synth pioneers.

makam with a taste of things to come as he flips the sound pallete for his latest 12- on dekmantel. housed in a plastic outer sleeve with postcard insert. tip! dekmantel say- we re rubbing our hands together gleefully for this one: longtime family member makam will return to dkmntl records with a full-length album later this year. guy blanken s ongoing search for new sounds, textures and rhythms has lead him to than sadet, a stunning piece of work that’s like nothing you ve heard from the the hague based producer before. we have known this ultra-talented chap for years, but it’s fair to say than sadet is his most impressive and distinctive work to date. this sampler is a sneak peek into what is about to be an absolute label highlight, a prelude to the new makam sound. riding high is a lush, isolee-esque lengthy house jam, and the blissful ambient ride backed up by tropical birds than sadet gives more insight into the new territories blanken has been digging into. you ain t heard nothin yet. -

everything i know and i will never know about you is a journey through electronica, deep-house and pop, driven by the endless and timeless sources of inspiration that are love and life. prior releases on powerhouses diynamic, get physical and third ear have pinpointed denites sound at the border of deep and tech-house but his long player debut is, sonically, a fresh new adventure. the spanish producer takes a developed and matured sound into deeper dimensions of self-reflection, exploring new sonori- ties while remaining loyal to his early influences with strong personal touches on drums and keys. everything i know and i will never know about you is a bold move for denite, who comes a step closer to achieving his artistic vision. tracks like when i go out and the art of letting go embody the albums innate dance-floor nature while songs like berlin see the spanish producer looking square towards new horizons and musical ambitions. club-friendly while staying geared towards the headphones, everything i know and i will never know about you reads like a bridge between two love stories with similar paths and mirroring endings. opening with the slow, pulsating sound of a heartbeat, it follows the universal cycle of the highs and lows of a relationship, closing on brighter promises and new potentialities.
