mind against are back on afterlife with their first solo ep since 2014! the brothers have crafted two melodic, synth-heavy productions for the new record, with dystopian affiliate alex.do tapped to remix one of them.

ima (intense molecular activity) is the duo of don hunerberg (synthesizers) and andy blinx (drums and percussion). based in new york city and active between 1979 and 1982. don, a studio sound / music engineer and musician, andy an electronic clothing designer, drummer and sound reinforcement engineer at downtown clubs like max’s kansas city, mudd club and cbgb. in between doing sessions at radio city music hall studios for groups such as ramones, richard hell, sonic youth, liquid liquid, john zorn, glenn branca and many others, ima took advantage of off hours to create their own music. as far as influences go, don’s background was in electronic music and andy’s in prog rock. to produce the songs, don used his own method of creating patterns from 2-track tape loops and then edited them together on to a 24-track recorder adding more tracks of overdubs, in a very similar way that sequencers are used today.

1976 the brothers were an emerging disco soul septet whose blistering arrangements and ferocious playing had earned them a cult following and a major label deal. little did they know that only a few years after the release of brothers theme that it would be a huge record on the dance-floors of nycs paradise garage and chicagos music box with both larry levan and ron hardy hammering the record behind the controls every night. the playing of the group paired with the production prowess of the legendary producer, writer and arranger warren schatz (frankie valli, dolly parton, vickie sue robinson and more) combined to make a fairly heady brew of disco, orchestral overtures and bombast that just ignites. proper disco music in it s purest form, still doing damage today! often sought after by the deepest of disco heads on a white label promo 12inch this rare ep now sees a fully legit reissue, made in conjunction with above board distribution and rca is sourced from their vaults using original materials and remastered and repressed to the highest standard for 2018 and featuring all original 1976 rca label artwork.

part four in alden tyrell s latest project: vorm variaties , a 5 release series consisting of tracks recorded in the last 2 years. the vorm variaties tracks were a style excercise for tyrell, flexing his producermuscle while health issues forced him to stop touring. initially he had no intention to release these tracks but we consider them to good not to put out, infact we were almost forced to start these series because of them! all tracks selected are variations on classic techno forms, using classic style ingredients and the 909. all 5 variaties are different in style, yet all homogenous, all with alden tyrell s sound signature... on point production skills and stripped down arrangements.

originally released in 1993 by the italian imprint minus habens records, -concrete jungle- is the second album by this seminal project of dirk ivens (the klinik, absolute body control). a work considered as groundbreaking by lot of fans of early 90s industrial, noise and ebm. there are few electro-pioneers that are still active and successful and mr. ivens is one of them, inspiring a lot of acts to follow in the past three decades. -concrete jungle- is being released for the first time on vinyl in a limited/numbered edition of 700 copies. double record including all the original tracks plus the -extended play- ep (1994) and some songs from old compilations. artwork based on the original design and presented on a deluxe gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves and numbered card.

louie vega re-ignites the disco classic “dance (disco heat)” by sylvester grammy awarding winning producer & 5 time grammy nominated louie vega continues to send dance floors into a peak hour frenzy with his remixes of disco classics on nervous records. the inspiration to delve into masters from this era began when he started remixing masters from the sam records catalogue, which is owned by nervous records, and with whom louie has a long history going back to nervous early 90’s origins. louie is that unique producer who has had success in multiple genres of music including house, r&b, & freestyle and he has brought that talent to help re-ignite new york disco classics like vicky d’s -this beat is mine- and convertion’s -let’s do it- featuring leroy burgess, as well as charting topping disco hits from john davis & the monster orchestra -bourgie bourgie- & -up jumped the devil-. this time, louie put his focus on a track outside of the sam records catalogue, and one that was an international disco hit that also crossed over to becoming a 1978 pop hit, namely sylvester / dance (disco heat). using elements from the 1978 version and combining them with his own original musical and percussion contributions, along with new vocal performances from renowned singer cindy mizelle, louie has refashioned and reignited this 39 year-old production into a 2018 club anthem.

the “natty dread a weh she want” set brings together two legends of reggae music. the stylish and unmistakable falsetto voice of singer horace andy and the production/dj singing skills of tapper zukie. both artists catalogues of music stand up strong but this, originally released 1979 set of songs seems to have brought something special out of both of them when producing/writing and arranging this set of tunes. “natty dread a weh she want” was a massive hit when it was released by tapper zukie and horace andy but this timeless track still sounds as fresh today as the day it was released in 1979, as do the other tracks on this fine album.

urpa i musell, the new barcelona-based record label, feels very fortunate to announce its second release, the first ever vinyl reissue of mr. wollogallu, the collaboration album between carlos maria trindade andnuno canavarro originally released in portugal on união lisboa, produções audiovisuais lda. in 1991 the collaboration began when the manager antónio cunha, a mutual friend of both musicians, brought the two together for a performance. afterwards they decided to embark on mr. wollogallu. they had never worked together before, although their careers had parallels between them. both were part of the 80s portuguese pop-rock scene: carlos maria trindade had played with corpo diplomático and heróis do mar, while nuno canavarro played in street kids and delfins. moreover, individually, carlos maria had released the single princesa / em campo aberto (vimúsica, 1982), and nuno had done the lp plux quba (ama romanta, 1988), now recognized worldwide for its uniqueness.

marcel vogels intimate friends label welcomes a newcomer to the fold, with hypoleon displaying a warm and inviting take on outboard, leftfield, electronic soul with a wavey edge to it. the vocals on the original tracks have a haunting edge to them thanks to some hefty processing, but the power in the delivery is undeniable. the tracks meanwhile channel acid, electro and minimal wave in understated ways, played out with a live band dynamic that hooks you in from the start. jon mcmillions remix of tresberry turns the track into a simmering 4/4 jam for the warm up heads to get loose to, while tevo howard brings some of his signature boxy acid to bear down on the track.

knlb first appeared with the initialize 12inch on vibraphone in july of this year, and it s not taken them long to return with another slab of on-point, upfront house music loaded with flair and imagination. up again is a heavy, chugging and bumping jam that should inspire all manner of screwed up faces of appreciation on the floor, and then fog machine smell simmers things down to a more measured house groove. half life brings a few more dubby elements into the mix, and then the club mix of sin sends the record spinning off in a wonderfully dusty reverie of detuned pianos and late-hitting drums.

sterns edits returns after the sell-out success of its debut edition with another two catalogue reworks from ben gomori. this time he turns his attention to burkina faso s much-loved taxi-driver-turned-singer, amadou balaké. balaké ( porcupine in mandinka) is burkina faso s proudest musical export, and in 2013 he recorded his final album before passing away: in conclusion. the record saw him revisit some of his most popular tracks from his remarkable 50-year career, backed by an eight-piece burkinabé band who took the country s traditional sounds and brought them into a contemporary light. gomori retains the essence of the original recordings which were mostly captured in one take and marries them to vigorous afro-house stylings. bar konon mousso (musicien c est pas quelqu un) in which balaké tells of a bar lady being unimpressed by his profession, gets a gentle push towards the modern dancefloor, its wonderful sax lines resplendent. massa kamba is taken for a drive down the more traditional route, with commanding drums bolstering the original grooves and a marvelous triple harmony brass section at its core. balakes freewheeling style suits the hypnotic feel of the edits to a tee. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

its been almost two years to the day since we ve last heard from our dear friend & resident grodno beat-smith funkyjaws. his legendary string of releases on our label over the years have been some of the most revered music we ve ever released. that being said, a fresh new 10inch from the man himself was always a question of when, not if. well, here it is.

10 years after blu and exile released their magnum opus below the heavens, the california duo have reunited to release 14 tracks from the original 2007 sessions. in the beginning: before the heavens contains previously heard songs and unreleased gems – the best of the best chosen from over 40 songs in the vault. their third collaboration follows 2012s give me my flowers while i can still smell them, and is slated for an october release. in the beginning: before the heavens is made of up songs that are raw and untouched, keeping the authenticity of blu and exile’s creativity at the time. the album has guest appearances from familiar names like dr. oop, donel smokes, aloe blacc, and blame one. while soul provider, another day, and party of two appeared on blus lifted ep, the majority of these songs showcase blu rapping at his peak, maintaining his underground attitude as he dishes on reaching star status (constellations), getting radio play (on the radio), or opposing views in a problem-ridden world (youre gonna die someday). exile, meanwhile, builds a golden hip-hop era feel with head-nodding samples and dj scratches.

following swayzak’s gestures of a sycophant, the third release on beatnik boulevard sees the return of appleblim after he launched the label in style with the conch shell motives ep. this time the berlin-based producer is working alongside long-time collaborator and fellow bristol bassweight alumni komon – the duo have turned out eps for aus music and apple pips in the past, but this 12” represents the first new material from them since 2014. the heads-down, meditative lilt of appleblim & komon’s bristol past looms in the shadows on this ep, but it’s shot through with a steely, modernist dance floor bite and high-end sound design. know yourself pivots around crafty, 2-step kinked drums but there’s plenty of space afforded to atmospheric synth surges that plunge the track into a mood-altering headspace just to the left of the conventional dance floor

ok. this is an anthem. you know “dance” already, right? huge pal joey jam from way back in 1990? the one that flips carl bean’s “i was born this way” into the stratosphere? yeah, that’s it! except this is that track reimagined by 2 killer producers, flipped and edited into the cosmos by the new jersey legend kerri chandler and the west coast’s onionz, probably the only producers who could touch such a stone cold classic and actually bring something to the table! originally out in 2002 these 2 edits / mixes are total weapons, you need this 12” in your bag. everything is touched, tweaked and blended in just the right way and full respect is given to the mixes. this isn’t no fly by night re-edit thing, this is heavyweights bringing us some heat and their interpretation of a track that was obviously a huge deal for them on a personal level. do not snooze on this, masterfully repressed, with the full consent of everyone involved and remastered on a solid 12” for you all.

danny berman aka red rack em is back with 2 more burners on his much loved bergerac label. after slaying everyone last year with wonky bassline disco banger and this years hotly tipped self portrait lp he s got his sights set firmly on the dancefloor once more. 2017 has been a vintage year for the berlin based dj producer with radio 1 mixes, serious air miles, remixes for tensnake, tinie tempah, shows for rinse and after a hectic summer, it s time to focus on his own productions and get back to what he does best. making slamming house cuts designed for maximum floor damage. place for me (version) is a cut up, pumping, soulful disco house slammer. originally released in 2009, it s been updated and remastered and is another great example of red rack ems ability to chop up vocal samples and make something fresh from them. guaranteed club wrecker, which served as a pre-cursor to wbdb and thus needs to be out there once more. exhalt is a super deep, spiritual house number with vibes galore. deep pads and crisp beats combine with deep bass in an ecstacy tinged, euphoric disco number. one for the heads…
