limited 2018 repress ! before producing on roulé, dj falcon worked in a&r department at virgin. in 1999 he released his first ep (on roulé) and produced a remix of cassius’ “la mouche” which is an all-time classic now. one year later, he started working with thomas bangalter on a track called “together”. two years later, the second release “so much love to give” of the duo appeared, which also remained the last release of dj falcon for a very long time. after 10 years of releasing nothing, dj falcon finally made a comeback in 2012 with several remixes such as justice’ “new lands”, alex gopher’s “hello inc.” and alan braxe’s “time machine”. in 2013 he reunited with thomas bangalter to release the track “contact” on the daft punk album “random access memories” together with guy-manuel de homem-christo.

purism welcomes romanian minimal house upstart mihai popescu to the table, following the promising producer s run of hotly tipped singles on his own soulsity label. the groove is crisp and infectious on opening cut -do watcha feeel,- which makes great use of a looped up melodic phrase and choice vocal snippets for a quintessential house throwdown. -mixed moods- is no less floor-ready, but its delicate, shimmering keys add a seductive quality that s impossible to resist. -midnight insp- takes a heads-down, tracky approach on its run in, but by the latter half opens up to reveal a gorgeous, swirling bath of chords. -aritmethixx- provides contrast for the ep s closer, keeping the beat stripped back and using haunting flecks of sonic decoration that wouldn t sound out of place on a horror inc track

phonogramme, the house subdivision of parent label and integral parisian record shop syncrophone dedicates itself directly to the french music scene, with previous releases from the likes of professor inc, john jastszebski, aleqs notal and a handful of other local heads. phonogramme continues to keep things close-to-home through the labels next edition presented by gibs, who s most notably known for works on his own imprint, an.art records – a family run label with music shared by himself and his two brothers. find an oasis kicks off the release with rolling organic percussion before progressing elegantly into layered emotive lead synths and mellow bass stabs. jarkarta is a subdued deeper house cut, filled with an uplifting, undulating melody and raw lo-fi elements collectively creating a luscious calming effect. last up, der germain offers up a fluid, groove filled number balanced with charming, jazzy flutters and tender keys providing a warm, breezy atmosphere to the end the release.

kim rapatti a.k.a mono junk presents the second volume of finnish electro all-star on his dum records imprint – active since 1992. the new release is the latest chapter of mono junk collaborating with friends, recently with mesak and freestyle man. the a-side of finnish electro all-star (dum-040) features collaborations with top finnish electro duo morphology, who recently released an outstanding album on firescope label. electro por favor is a pulsating driving electro track with a killer bassline and vocals by rapatti – electro at its best. raw, apocalyptic, solitary remix by mono junk follows the original. the b-side features collaborations between mono junk and a very special guest: goner a.k.a. martin maischen, who is known from many hot releases as the other half of german electro act sandbenders. they were at most active around the millennium and made releases for force inc. music works and science city. the two included tracks are deep electroid techno excursions made last year in berlin – very cool stuff.

frankfurt based paradroid is the infamous hero of the microhouse sound alongside guys like s-max and fym. he’s already been in the scene for quite a while and had releases on labels like force inc. music works and boogizm to name a few. strong microhouse like in the ol’ days.

yagyas rigning album from 2009 is the icelandic producer s most acclaimed dub, techno and minimal masterpiece. due to popular demand, delsin are now re-issuing it across three slabs of vinyl. previously only available as a double pack with eight tracks, the new re-mastered version features all 10 of the tracks from the original cd. gumundsson has been making music for years both solo and as part of the thule musik collective. he is an album specialist who has worked as yagya since 2002 and has put out six albums since then. they come on labels like force inc and sending orbs where rigning was first released and manage to be both absorbing and detailed yet suitable for relaxing background listening. his last two albums, sleepygirls (2014) and stars & dust (2016) appeared on delsin records. rigning is essentially one long track split into movements. it depicts a city sleeping as gentle rain falls and dubbed out grooves zone you out. yagyas style is always patient and slow burning, his grooves are long and drawn out and his pads reach up into the heavens. this whole album in coated in a warm fuzz and is a real comfort on dark, long, cold nights. as insular and melancholic as it is, there is also plenty of beauty in the melodies and delicate keys. from dark and gloomy to more optimistic and meditative, there is a sophistication throughout this always cinematic album that continues to make it stand out nearly a decade after it was first released.

two unreleased recordings dug up by the team at numero group for their purple snow comp (get it), these were begging to be put on 45. recorded at audiotek studios inc in 1975. david z, who engineered lipps inc s -funkytown- and several prince productions, piloted both these recordings. get it on is the perfect end up night stone groove track, i can t recommend this record enough, buy it. another completely selfish venture, i just wanted this on 45.

the kalita sound is becoming more clearly defined with each release, as the london-based label continues to mine the rich history of overlooked disco, funk and soul from america and africa. darryl douglas inc. originally released -holding on- in 1981, and when you listen to it it s no wonder that second hand copies used to fetch dizzying prices. it s a perfect get down jam that no doubt used to delight switched on diggers with money to burn, but a track this perfectly crafted for good times should never be confined to the ivory tower of the collectors. -jesus is the light- is the original b side, a slower devotional soul cut with gospel undertones.

the was/is crew have proven themselves to be dab hands at burrowing away at the hidden folds of the 90s electro scene and finding some truly unsung heroes worth of a reissue. following on from excellent work supporting the likes of archetype, the us label can now be found shining a spotlight on the work of can oral under the 4e moniker. originally appearing on labels such as force inc and mille plateaux, 4e s sound was quintessentially mid-90s, but only surfaced over a short period of time between 1994 and 1998. this record originally came out on sockett in 1996, and it s been sought after as avid diggers pull out every thread of dope, adventurous electro they can find. discogs pirates laugh no more, because now this essential record is back in the hands of the real music fans!

the brother s leeb are releasing their first limited, vinyl only e.p. on smile for a while. now, who are those guys? one of the bros - dj eb-clectic - helped building germany s hip hop scene during the late 1980s and 1990s in frankfurt / main, but also did some chicago house tunes with deskee and gene farris on force inc. in the 1990s, as well. this brother is a real keeper! the other bro - leander janik - is in his mid 20s and quite an avid home composer on his little roland synthie. he s a long term member of the s4aw crew, and has shared a studio with all the other guys. needless to say the brothers are hell of a dj duo, too...

prolific producer mathis mootz is very well known within the drum/bass and hardcore techno arenas as being one of the innovative pioneers to merge both genres with an unique approach. his contribution to the electronic music community is not limited to his explorations within only the drum and bass and hardcore genres, mathis also has various experimental projects, most noteworthy being his m2 ( squaremeter ) project with releases on mille pleateux, ant-zen and hands productions. the sound of m2 is defined as a combination of micro sound and industrial soundscapes. the panacea is no stranger to the world of techno as some may suspect, his command of the position chrome record label came from his close relationship with force inc. music works which was one of the earliest german record labels to fuel the underground techno/rave scenes in the early 90’s. since position chrome came under his guidance in 1997 it has become one of the most important labels in electronic music due to it’s integrity and an impressive release of quality music for it’s genre. more recently, he has been investigating the techno landscape with david frisch together known as new frames, their latest release on hands productions is essential for those interested in contemporary electronic music of the dark techno/industrial kind. “ above the absolute “ is a 12’’ of mercenary techno produced with expert skill. the opening track “ above the absolute 96 “ is pure sound wave balance with all the components for what is sure to light any dance floor on fire. “ most basic resolution “ is a dark, mood shifting, hard acid techno reminder of what it means to create music for warehouses, pure old school for the hardcore. “ overdrive ee “ continues in a more contemporary direction and demonstrates a mastery of percussive elements in tune with the kind of atmosphere that brings people together in the dark. the final track “ walter “ goes back into the future with a track aimed at the headstrong, an exceptional closing chapter that hits dead centre on the search of the perfect beat. an overall completely impressive work from an artist who has set no limitations for himself.

the long-awaited exos and ohm record will finally see the light of day this november on exos new label, x/oz. this is the second release from the label and also the first exos and ohm ep in 16 years. exos and ohm are old friends and long-term collaborators having released on the legendary force inc. label as well as thule records. the pair met in reykjavik in 1997 and played together in clubs together such as thomsen and tunglid, both historical cornerstone in the icelandic club scene. soon after that they started making music together. this release, frodari, marks their fourth collaboration and is a sort of sequel to the 2001 thule records record paint me up. the records share the track frodi which has been remastered for this 2017 release

following the success of the last split release from label bosses adam shelton and subb-an, one records deliver a heavy-weight remix package of self control/ only now from perlon favourites melchior productions ltd aka thomas melchior and akufen aka horror inc. a standout release for the label, original tracks self control and only now are masterfully reworked by melchior and akufen who both utilise the distinct vocals from isis salam to deliver two monumental tracks. one records have enjoyed forming a bond with melchior this year, inviting him to play at label showcases in barcelona for off sonar and gotwood festival in the uk. they look forward to inviting both melchior and akufen to upcoming label parties.
