if you’re setting out on an epic voyage to the electronic disco universe, it pays to recruit an experienced pilot. when it comes to intergalactic musical fusion, few are quite as experienced as cosmic disco pioneer and noted dancefloor explorer daniele baldelli. produced alongside friend and regular studio partner dario piana, zero gravity cannily updates baldelli’s early ‘80s cosmic disco blueprint for the 21st century. we think that the ep contains some of his strongest music to date, with each of the three cuts offering subtle nods to the italian maestro’s original cosmic club ethos. a-side “infinity machine” expertly combines many of baldelli’s greatest musical inspirations into one mind-bending late night workout. underpinned by a druggy, arpeggio style bassline, the track rises and falls through waves of funk-rock guitars, crunchy clavinet lines and intertwined synthesizer solos. throw in jammed-out electric pianos, and you have a near perfect fusion of cosmic disco and blazed funk-rock. the producer’s long-held love of african rhythms surfaces on “if you drive”, where bold acid bass, ricocheting percussion hits and weightless chords combine beautifully with starry melody lines and vintage analogue synthesizer motifs. it’s afro-cosmic for the nu-disco generation. a fine ep is completed by “air lock”, in which baldelli and piana pepper a rubbery, electrofunk-influenced groove with cascading synthesizer melodies, swirling pads and a swathe of fuzzy, eyes-closed guitar solos. it’s bold and assertive, but also as otherworldly and stratospheric as you’d expect from a pioneer at the peak of his powers.

public releases hits the lab for some aural alchemy and to turn out its first release of 2017. a four-tracker from moscow’s phil gerus, scenes—or, in the producer’s native russian, &#1089,&#1094,&#1077,&#1085,&#1099,—manages to have a makeup that’s both peculiar and magnetic. the title’s a fitting one, every track feels like a vignette in a collection of short stories. separately, they’re self-contained, but a rich narrative arch is added when they’re sewn together. if there is a theme here, it’s of viewing the future through the dusty lens of the past, and each of the songs explores this in its own fashion. the kick-off, “ohashi sky garden,” starts as a hyped-up italo space epic, pumped full of swirling synth licks and sharp, tight drums, but it mutates into something completely its own when vocal samples (90s r&b?) and warm keys (prog rock rhodes?) enter. after the original’s brisk five minutes, the legendary richard sen—graffiti guy, breaks guy, house guy, disco guy, half-of-padded-cell guy—steps in to give it a trance-y tinge while doubling its runtime and adding a dancefloor-destroying hi-nrg coloration. the b begins with “naha swim,” a crunchy funk foot-stomper that might as well be an unreleased idjut boys or ray mang ditty dug up from the noid catacombs. fiery and furious, yet utterly cheeky. serving as a sort of coda to “naha” is “kiss of a kind,” a gerus take on 80s adult contemporary, replete with sleazy sax and sensual pads. a gentle nightcap to a zigzagging, antic 12-inch

tiga is back to tell you what youve always needed to hear with his new single eye luv u. co-produced by one half of paranoid london, the new single harnesses all the pure source energy of what enlightened club-goers often describe as their favourite emotion. the title came to me while i was playing a pyramid that had been converted into a multi-purpose event space, says the canadian dj/producer. the hieroglyphics over what is now the coat check made me imagine a world in which pictures could mean words and words could mean anything. the thing about wordplay is that its fascinating to conceive of different realities informed by different systems of meaning, and how each reality would invariably bend to vault me to the pinnacle of all possible worlds. its humbling, really.

after his collaboration with adam beyer joseph capriati teams up with flavio folco for the second redimension with a fully analogue production in the studio. a wide range of sounds taking you deeper into their idea of space, dimension and possible destinations. josephs creativity received a new drive from the collaboration with the emerging talent flavio folco whose musical roots range from jazz to hip hop and acid house. their studio sessions in barcelona and flavios openings sets at capriati’s shows gave both of them the chance to get to know each other on a deeper musical level which turned into an unexpected and dynamic ep.

repress 2017 , allez! as the curtains come down on another crazy summer of love, apollonia drop their latest release courtesy of io mulen - the ukranian rude boy who appeared on the label at the beginning of the year with ‘unknown to the unknown’. he’s back with a hefty six-track package which is sure to please his fans, and win him a whole new army of supporters. we get straight to business with the first track, ‘rdm37’, one of those trusty apollonia bouncing bombs. skittish beats work off a sublime groove, while io keeps the background full of interesting sounds, boings, cheeps and all manner of whimsical effects, introducing more and more as the track progresses. by the midpoint you’re so gripped by the track that your whole body is moving uncontrollably, super glued to the rhythm. next up, it’s ‘xdt54’ coming through with a deep, persuasive bassline that jigs around in the low end luring you into its web. simple, polished percussive elements keep things moving at a pace while subtle keys and barely-there vocals add further layers to this catchy little number. the third track in on this lengthy ep is ‘mpc13’, a walk on the sensual side. vocal snippets are interspersed among sultry pads, skipping four to the floor beats and a sleazy b-line to create a delectable slice of dance floor naughtiness. this one flirts with you as it writhes around, taking you ever deeper…four tracks in we have ‘zgb41’, another alluring cut that has all the hallmarks of a deep house classic. those shimmering pads, a bassline that feels like it was born in nineties chicago, diamond-cut beats and a general feeling of what we would call ‘true house music’. there’s soul, there’s funk and there’s realness, what more can you ask for?ypt58’ keeps us locked in to that hypnotic groove with an insistent b-line holding things down - together with the infectious rhythm cultivated by the drum arrangement, it’s a killer combo. put those together with the smooth atmospherics plus synth lines staggering in and out of the background and you’ve got yourself a roller. last but definitely not least is ‘zxy22’, a wistful slice of technoid funk which has a delicate melody at its foundation. as it develops we get sucked in to layer upon layer of beauty, from the analogue low end to the electric guitar riff – each layer complementing the other and creating a symphony of sounds that acts as a perfect way to close out the ep and will no doubt end plenty of dj sets, when it’s released. so monsieur io (mulen) returns to apollonia with an instant classic, make sure you snap it up right away. magnifique!

east wall was an italian electronic dark wave band started by fabrizio chiari (ex keyboardist of kirlian camera) and wilma notari in 1982. “silence” was self released by the band in 1991.

this opus was recorded in a room transformed into a studio, where countless hours of work happened on an old computer, with trips back and forth to the grocery to buy liters of soda. in between soundtrack, jazz-funk and house, the beginnings of this ep find their roots in the encounter between lucien and dj gregory (point g), spiritual guide, who pushed into an introspective work, where the feelings were ultimately revealed sincerely. this ep is also the meeting of 4 musicians whove known each other for a long time and, together, form lucien & the kimono orchestra.

the material collated on this third release from heavenly music corporation was composed specifically for st. giga in japan, a satellite broadcast radio station transmitting ethereal audio harmony 24 hours a day. what made this station otherworldly was its programming, motivated by tidal movements, the aquatic ebbs and flows of each day synchronised to the activity and intensity of the music broadcast.

unordained, brutal, and led by the rhythm of heavy bass and massive drums, disorder is an unrestrained ep, conceived in an atmosphere of distortion, edging on a certain experimental techno, equivocating between noise music and musique bruitiste. as if, here, techno were a tool of vengeance, a violent revelation with the appearance of redemption, the pieces succeed each other without any glimmer of hope appearing, and the sounds with the abrasive textures come to coil round fast and broken sequences. times are marked on each pulsation, regular and relentless. the frequencies evolve in progressions designed to install a particular tension. in -contact- some voices hidden by the filtering of a radio announce to the stoic listener and the sweaty dancers what they already foreshadowed: communication is blurred, impossible and painful. in a word, modern.

doubled with a social network and technology addiction, life tends to be each day more and more mechanical. bionic life in a static system reflect mattias feeling about this matter of fact. human will soon tend to be machined: automatically, resuming their feeling to a simple emoticon. mattia is giving us his vision of this near future with these 4 tracks, proposing us some atmospheric and melodic pads and robotic electro rhythms added to the finest futuristic acid lines.

ive always loved the sound of the italian word amarone (ah-mah-roh-nay). in my native spanish, amar means to love, so for me the word recalls that beautiful invitation: to love oneself. each track on this ep leads you through a different emotional landscape an unfiltered experience of feeling, an encounter with the heart.

over the years, lo recordings has taken pride in exploring a wide and broad range of sounds, genres and styles. to mark 20 years of lo recordings, we are taking a fresh and bold approach with our output to further explore the accelerating and refined developments in electronic music today. this is the first of our new phase of releases, a collaborative project between the two titans mr. g and k15. ‘a learning curve’ is exactly as the title suggests, an educational experience to un- derstand each other musically and technically, and to explore new territories and schools of thought. as avid users and fans of the mpc, as well as being extremely busy, both mr. g and k15 were given the same samples dug out of the lo recordings archives to each create a track which would remotely display their techniques and methods. this was quick- ly adopted to be the theme in a series of three releases to come out throughout the year from the pair. the results come in the form of mr. g’s mesmerising ‘navigate’ and k15’s introspective ‘the guilt within’, two very individual tracks in their own rights. ‘navigate’ is instantly recognisable as the work of its creator, armed and ready to bring the dance floor to hypnotic heights. with its rough and gritty sound, driving kick & synth stabs, and hauntingly majestic keys, we are thrown into peak of the night. on the flip, ‘the guilt within’ takes a turn to more ominous terri- tories, crafting an atmosphere on the other end of the spectrum to ‘navigate’. a beautiful and delicate journey carried along by light skipping percussion, immersive sweeping pads and a puls- ing sub which all come together to take the listener deep inside themselves.

hailing from brazil and since moved to toronto get weird welcomes hauy. music crafted to be played in the clubs or the deserts, these three tracks chart an important journey for hauy. each a part of his recent journey and growth. amanita is a magic mushroom (amanita muscaria) that took him to a place where he felt no longer with the living. a place of truth where he would no longer lie to himself. after finding his truth and coming back to the land of the living, he decided to express the feelings of his journey through his music. he further pondered what it all meant. the initial darkness of the trip and its aftermath, gave way to a more positive light. as he felt more and more positive, another song floated in to his mind. your way to paradise is the sunrise after the darkness. blue moon wasnt originally a part of this musical journey but now seems relevant to represent how he felt before the experience, as a part of his full circle, completing a personal expedition and exploration to our latest release

juni is the first joint release by charly schoeppner and sascha demand, two seasoned veterans of experimental and improvisational music. they call themselves giraffe. their longstanding friendship has now propelled them into making juni. juni contains 11 short pieces that effortlessly flow in and out of each other. intuitive, yet controlled, subdued, yet at times nervously ritualistic, percussive elements drive the tracks with melodic and harmonic impulses weaved around them. the record references abstract jazz and contemporary experimental music. it is an original snapshot of what makes contemporary experimental music tick.
