token is 5 years old. i never planned to do anything special for this occasion. however, when i received these 2 new tracks from phase, all just fell into place. this release pretty much sums up what token stands for since day one. both tracks are fierce pieces of relentless yet deep techno, in-your-face yet very subtle rhythms, all credited to phases detailed drum programming, keen sense of atmospherics & sound processing.

excellent 4 track vinyl with fantastic deep house. it gets started with >spring loop<, a track that looks to its name both for feeling and production sense. of course that sensuous vocal sample that gets drawn through it wouldnt do the job on its own, but rau knows that too and surrounds it with a warm, humid bassline and his always changing and snapping drums to keep it in the pocket for the whole 5 minutes. even though the groove on the a1 is already heavy for him, he goes deeper yet with >swearing (vinyl version)< that jamaican vocal is something so classic that we wont spoil it here, but the pumping house beat and piano stabs he winds around it give even more poignancy to the lyrical substance… we are pretty sure that by the time he finally echoes the vocal out late in the track there will be some hands in the air for this one

3 years ago patrick & frederic started their marvelous career as kaiserdisco and made it to one of the most interesting acts in the global underground scene. they are not only a techno or minimal act, kaiserdisco is fascinating people all over the world cause they are producing music from lazy deep house to groovy techno, always with the right sense for the dancefloor. in the last years they remixed artists like booka shade, kosheen, extrawelt, sebastien leger, 2000 & one...., and had releases on legendary labels like drumcode, 100% pure, strictly rhythm, my best friend, global underground etc... and now it is time to start their own imprint. the first kd music release la famillia ep comes from kaiserdisco themselves. the a-side la benjamina is a typical kaiserdisco anthem. strong beats, groovy bass and a hypnotizing melody. you can feel it in every second of this track how much fun it was to produce this piece of music. especially the big break will make you go mad!! hija major on the b-side is a heavyweight techno layout. a massive rolling bassline catches you from the first second! the hole track reminds you of a fast rolling train packed full of wood. it rattles from first to last and when it falls into the breaks you can imagine it pushes the train even more and more and more...

here comes the master on carillon also known as alessio mereu. with an ep that soon will be released on steve bugs legendary pokerflat imprint, alessio delivers to our label a single really different from his typical style and approach to electronic music ... hot as hell!
first on the a side we have >hot - spot< a track with a taste of electronic and latin vibes with psychedelic voices and a solid groove.
then we have alex cellers version (cecille - area remote) that takes the main sense of the track and rebuilts it for a very stylish version rich of percussions and emotionality.
for the b-side we have >fire - hot<, a groovy club track for peak times with spoken vox sample from black poetry that really reminds the 80s rap style from the ghetto.

title track >lasers are forever< combines arpeggiating analog squelch, lush synth atmospherics and subtle percussion sequencing to lend itself an uncommon sense of drama, the effect of which is both compelling and visceral. on the flip, >hello darkness< takes a somewhat different approach: an imposing arp 2600 bassline pulses along front-and-center with a relentless acid-tinged snarl, while pounding drums and swelling pads complete this most banging of danses macabres. on remix duties are throne of blood alumni remain & mlle caro, who retain the key elements of their source material only to reveal an entirely different beast lurking beneath: the parisian duo take down the tempo a few notches and let swelling analog filters and unfurling lfos do the rest. meanwhile, get the curse music boss clement meyers deformhaus remix of >hello darkness< tightens the originals percussion to an industrial stomp and introduces a spooked-out synth line every bit as funky as it is uncanny- the end result lands somewhere between the boneyard and the discothèqu

here comes the already promised vinyl-extraction of the already released upon you diary no.2 compilation, on which you can find the uy- clan members and artists around the label. the four most popular titles of the cd were pored on vinyl. on a1 a collaboration of douglas green and delhia de france, who lost gallons of love about their song > sense<. mark henning has also formed a passioned tech-house-mover with his track > stacked<, which complies his cool style. the b- side has an opener from our number one dutchman onno, who got together with our youngest member marcus gehring to produce the title >elephant in the room<. of course marcus meinhardt, who was responsible for the survey of the tracks cant be left a side. his contribution to this product carries the name > splash< and is an example for marcus meinhardts driving tech-house-sound

david nizet has been around in the belgian underground techno scene for ages, we mean early nineties. he was part of the 6th sense collective during the mid 90s with releases on dave angels rotation and the legendary belgian label re-load records. despite a detroitish nostalgic touch in his productions, small modern minimalist influences gently creep in to all his tracks to turn them into brilliant pieces of never outdated, or should we say evergreen, techno.
with past releases on aesthetik, mowar, labrynth and played by marcel fengler, markus suckut, matt o brien, jamie behan, .. (the list is too long actually), he is definitely up there with the big ones.

droid resident artists david flores (audio injection / truncate) and vangelis + vidal vargas (raiz) combine their production elements on the degrees of motion ep. david has been burning up the industry charts with his latest raw vibe alias truncate. the spring/summer season in europe would have been quite silent had it not been for the phrases concentrate and focus. with releases and remixes on enemy, modularz and his own truncate imprint, david has enjoyed strong support from renowned acts dettmann, klock, luke slater, chris liebing, speedy j, dvs1 and countless others. the members of raiz, vangelis and vidal vargas, have also been making waves with their work on historia y violencia, silent steps, gynoid, and droid. on this collaboration david and the vargas brothers combine the dry and groovy tool perfection of truncate with the concept and sense of depth raiz has been developing over the last year. the result is a series of 3 flawless tracks exemplifying the degrees of motion. inertia builds the ep with heavy drum programming and warm pad work. flux takes the energy up a notch with hard swing percussion, sharp analog noise and arctic synthesis. jude law leaves his seed. rhythm completes the cycle with a deeply grounded pulse, accented by an enigmatic call to consciousness and presence. degrees of motion is a solid showcase of this production teams potential.

elektro guzzi redefined the meaning of performing techno live. with just guitar, bass and drums, they take the most unusual playing techniques and put them together into a rigid mechanical form where everything makes instant, evident sense. if they had not performed live extensively, becoming audience favourites from mutek to sónar and from berghain to fabric, it would have been hard to believe this is really how the music is created. that said, it seemed impossible they could go even further in this direction. yet thats exactly what they did. parquet, their second studio album sees them in monomaniacal, claustrophobic techno mode. throughout the nine tracks the distinctions between instruments and roles are totally vaporized.

g.h. is gary howell, longtime associate of modern love as one half of pendle coven and sometime contributor to the hate project. the ground ep features howells first material produced outside of pendle coven and takes on a much darker, more stripped down aesthetic - making use of location recordings amassed over the last decade. the title track extends over 7 minutes from a solitary bass pulse into a slow, three dimensional industrial reduction heaving with uncomfortable bass weight and a sense of nervous expectation. its like the bare, skeletal noise framework for darkest junglist hardcore stripped of its percussion - all bar a bass drum and intense shards of noise. albedo has more of a swing to it, dominated by a growling bassline and the metallic clunk of disjointed percussion at odds with the squashed funk lurking somewhere at its core. the template is extended on earth, a brilliantly discordant club variant that sounds like an r&b mastertrack exploded into 100 constituent parts and put together not entirely in the right order. it builds and collapses into itself, a stylistic oddity that at one and the same time brings to mind boards of canadas re- working of colonel abrams - trapped and the extreme frequency vortex of the raster noton lab
