(get bad). the result? one of the most unlikely and essential party records of 2017. queen and house music: not necessarily the most obvious of bedfellows, but music for freaks has never been a label to take the path most travelled. over the course of their de-cades long journey the label founded by luke solomon and justin harris has released uni-quely idiosyncratic dance music, establishing the label as a go-to imprint for those seeking imaginative, unpredictable records that still undeniably work on the dancefloor. their latest release might well be among the most out-there of them all. originally released back in 1984,two sharp pencils (get bad) is a record by queen drum-mer roger taylor, featuring him on vocals as well as drums, bass & guitar. now brought bang up to date via a fully official and endorsed remix courtesy of anna wall & corbi, this overlooked album track looks set to become one of the summers most essential records. born and bred in the uk, anna wall is a dj, producer and label owner who is a key player in london’s underground house music scene. her label the bricks champions up-and-coming producers, while anna herself has djd all over the world, most recently for mixmag at pacha for their ims launch party. corbi is an ibiza-based dj and producer, a&r for the highly respected fina records and co-founder of melon bomb, a party and dj collective that has in the space of just a couple of years become one of the white isles most talked-about exports. having met while working at house giant defected records some years ago, anna felt that corbi would be the perfect studio accomplice to work on the remix of two sharp pencils.

fresh from charming the pants off us with the verdant echoes from the southern place 12-, italian producer piero paolinelli is back as sofa talk with a new single striding out on the ever fantastic tusk wax. this 12- comes steeped in different shades of party music, from the bouncy organ chords and motor city leads of -disquiet- through to the slickly diced up boogie tones of -elastic-. as well as paolinelli s mighty fine originals, the remixes come from some big hitters. ad bourke gets on board to turn -disquiet- into a energised, bubbling house burner while posthuman brings some of his trademark tough acid touches to elastic-.

with a career spanning over 20 years worth of djing, production and label work, shlomi aber has gradually cemented his position as one of the scene’s cornerstones. his first outing for figure sees the now barcelona-based artist drawing on his many influences to deliver a tastefully rounded three- tracker. under two worlds grooves sublty aong a funky acid riff, while anthemic synths longilgy recall bygone moments of grandeur. this unique aber-ability, creating a composition that is as elegantly understated as it is undoubtedly epic, also comes through on the record’s b-side. paced only at half-time and drenched in dubby reverb, the weighing beats of ‚rumbles’ engage with delicately shapedhead sounds for some seriously spaced-out head nods. matrix is an tightly woven mesh of machinery insides, which aber nevertheless manages to channel into a fairly straight forward kinetic energy.

i released the original 12inch volume of five fingers of death battle breaks way back in 1998, while i was living in oakland and then san francisco during a time of incredible movement and creativity within the suddenly exploding scratch dj scene. the term turntablist, coined by dj disk, had yet to really catch on outside of the bay area scratch fraternity. having recently moved to california from new york, pauls turntable aesthetics were strictly 80s east coast and was more concerned with catching doubles (beat juggling) and overall party rocking. in other words, the science of scratching was not something i was even contemplating.needless to say, i was completely amazed and overwhelmed with what djs like qbert, shortcut, apollo and mixmaster mike were doing. nice price deal !!! jorg henze has impressed us all with the output on his skip imprint since it kicked off some few months ago. he has shown with this label how diverse a producer he is and this record adds more weight to that argument. the a side here is a throbbing minimal growler with its twisting acidic textures and minimal groove well punctuated with vocal samples and sharp percussion. the a side keeps up the intensity with its bass heavy warehouse style groove with mad vocal snippets and killer drums. this is a two tracker just made for sweaty dark dancefloors. it rocks

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent...house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 2 you ll find a high energy disco rub from parisian s3a, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from boddhi satva & sly johnson, a deep uk garage production from smbd (aka simbad), a dark and electronic affair from toto chiavetta (yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical bristol touch from newcomer marcel lune. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style

clark verschnürt auf death peak die verschiedenen stränge seines bisherigen outputs, wenn er die euphorischen melodien und rhythmen der warehouse-raves mit neuen gesangs und chor-arrangements verknüpft.ndeath peak- legt somit das spannungsfeld offen, auf dem clarks musikalisches vokabular basiert: -ich liebe es einfach, diesen wendepunkt zu finden zwischen zwei gegensätzen die stelle, an der es kippt. meine tracks sollen scharfe zähne haben, aber man soll sie trotzdem auch noch streicheln wollen. sie klingen klassisch, uralt, aber scheinen aus der zukunft hierher gebeamt zu sein, sanft und doch zerstörerisch.

an innate facet of the human condition is the very personal way we choose to process our own fatality. faced with dealing with the feelings of anxiety, death and fear after nearly drowning whilst diving in the south atlantic in his youth, ricardo donoso chose to channel them into his creative process. the result was scuba death, a project that was fully realised on donoso’s widely acclaimed 2014 further debut, nitrogen narcosis. after spending time devoted to establishing his kathexis label as well as delivering a trilogy of albums under his given name for the denovali label, donoso returns to further with a second scuba death offering, the worm at the core.
