edux return from a winter hibernation and summer of partying with some more essential wax. machete savane is their latest signing, aka studio supremo saul richards & andy bainbridge, an integral part on well respected and notoriously raucous party people bad passion andy has perfectly distilled what drives the bad passion dancefloor in the excellent >elysian fields<, and who better to put a unique stamp on the track than their main resident guest felix dickinson. he takes the track into bolder, dubbed out and altogether more acid house territory, while keeping the live elements to the fore. finally mid op amps up the drum machinery, and lays out another corking balearic with balls workout. quality stuff as always.

>spearhead< sees roska making a rare 140bpm trip, taking this rhythmical excursion neatly into dubstep tempo territory, creating an original cut which sits in its own world of tribal grime. the bassline pounds heavy, eventually rising upward before suddenly plummeting back down to the murky depths from where it came, and back round again. dis-hyeer quality dubstep music produced pon the other side of the looking glass.

techno fans in new york and chicago should be pretty aware of jeff derringer by now. since launching oktave in october 2009 with partner kevin gregor, the former indie rocker has turned a passion for deeper electronic music into a respected dj and promoter career. but it is as a producer that jeff has begun to earn rising recognition elsewhere-throughout the us and beyond-with his records infiltrating europe via support from the likes of silent servent, chris leibing and peter van hoesen, along with many others that have graced oktave over the years.

for signal life #03, we teamed up two young vigorous south londoners: mr. louis carnell, known by his moniker visionist, and mr. marco giuliani, who works under the alias last japan. >control this< by visionist combines his background in south london grime with his signature drum machine template and lo-fi vocal excerpts into a coherent mesh. our favourite visionist track to date! when we first heard >storm trooper< by last japan, it was the tension we got caught up in. the song is focused with a clear direction, uncommon in most young talent, armed with a driving snare-fill rhythm reminiscent of south rap and all that exiting stuff in the 160 bpm. i believe murky is the correct term. we predict interesting things for mr. giuliani.

nice price deal !!! aÑa / henning baer / norman nodge / musk.... no one knows exactly how, or why it happened. we can only postulate. perhaps it was rogue hydrogen atoms causing havoc again, or a particularly voracious wave of em radiation hell bent on finding a good time. the point is, (in those days) such lude behavior was simply unacceptable: aÑa had become excited, too much so for the solar stiffs that swirled about her. and that system of hers—always buzzing around, refusing to share anything—it had to go. so both were exiled from that collision patch they called home, leaving aÑa and her system to wander the cosmos. some years passed. aÑa grew a little, but mostly she practiced her basswalk—not this girly swooshy thing with your hips, but a real bolshy bovver boot stomp. after a while she got pretty good at it, she wanted to show her friends. maybe theyd like to basswalk too. well, they couldnt get enough of it—but no one did it quite like aÑa. henning baers had a bit more groove to it and this whole new tweaky hat element. norman nodge kept his pretty punchy, but all that time spent in berghain had turned his basswalk into a bit of a skulk. as for musk, the boys inverted the whole thing of course—turned a disco trick, shifting the march down into more of a slinky house glide. aÑa liked them all so much—and it was time isolated system stopped being such a separatist—she decided to gather them all together to make basswalker part i. now you can basswalk too

chairlift present takes on several cuts from acclaimed second album >something< by some of their favorite producers, showcasing how their songs can easily be adapted for the club. appropriately titled the 6.15amix, spanish equipo fantástico john talabot and pional turn >i belong in your arms< into a balearica-infused club-closer. a nifty piano line and seductive rhythm take the song on a late night (or rather early morning) trip to the beach, while carolines voice is being warped into something from outer space. photek takes the same track to a whole different place with his powerful jungle interpretation. martyn respects both the pace and rhythm of sidewalk safari, yet exchanges the clean production for a rather more cosmic beat, incorporating many of his signature touches to compliment the sinister >i m gonna hunt you down< lyric. dan careys dub mix of >sidewalk safari< shows a more playful side, while arguably the most intriguing remix of the package is the fields take on >met before<, recalling his early work it is so warped and layered you may struggle to imagine the original minus the smallest of hints.

after their sure-fire succession of great releases dam swindle end up on the excellent freerange imprint. and if you like the words deep along with atmospheric then this will most definitely appeal to you. from the opening title track with its lush, moody nu-groove styled pads and thunderous hand-claps these three productions simply ooze class and intensity in abundance. next is >gotta know< which rewinds back to classic house sounds and injects a sense of melody into the already swinging rhythms and punchy, detroit bass. which is then followed by >brotherman< and yet more in-depth moods, this time accompanied by jazzy, scat styled vocals for added diversity. finally we have wolf music main man krl stepping up to remix brotherman and a rather sterling job he does to. making great use of the vocal krl brings us a slowed down version with his trademark shuffling drums and a dynamic arrangement. piano stabs and a cheeky boogie synth sample all help bring his own sound to the track and round off the package perfectly.

luca c & brigante are beginning to need no introduction as their heady balearic mix of sounds continue to resonate from the beach to the club. together, they have dropped bombs such as >different morals< feat. ali love and the robert owens fronted >tomorrow can wait<. luca c is also one half of infinity ink, whose >infinity< has been one of the summers biggest records, and a new addition to hot natured alongside jamie jones, ali love and lee foss. sebi aka brigante has remixed the new single from ali love, about to drop on no.19. aligning with the ancient mayan prophecy that the end of the world is due december 21st 2012, luca c & brigantes new single >flash of light< featuring dance music icon roisin murphy is a call to love like there is no tomorrow. embedded in heavy reverb and stripped back to slow steady drums, the mood rises as roisins crystalline vocals fall into rhythm and weightlessness builds with the bassline hook, pearly high-pitched strings and a burst of harmonic percussion.

sunwalkers is the b-side project of rks, thats what happens when the power of the beats meets the light of the synths. a raw mix of miscellaneous pad and analogue drums that start with a tribute, a detroit reminding track, 303 acid bass and a blaze of sweet melodies, like the old school way says. the ride goes on with 2, an easy dancing jam, the piano chords run into an unceasing clap for a massive dirty floor killer. on the b-side terrence parker puts his groovy piano style on a brilliant remix of the light, seven minutes of pure detroit parkers energy with a dreamy heartbreaker bridge.

with recent releases for internasjonal and tim sweeneys beats in space records, los angeles based producer secret circuit (otherwise known as eddie ruscha) has had a breakthrough year with his brittle synth jams, taking inspiration from balearic disco and minimal wave alike. however, he has been a prolific producer since 1996, and this record on emotional response, entitled tropical psychedelics, collects productions from rusha up until 2010 that have previously only seen the light of day on cassette releases. described by the label as a >balearic-tropical-afro-psychedelic whirl<, the album packs a rich palette of analogue textures into its ten tracks, from the afro dub of >afrobotics<, through the hazy, beatless combination of piano and analogue synth on >psouvenirs< to the psychedelic tropicalia of >foggy twilights<.

two of the uks most formidable names in techno step into the ring for a head to head on theory. stephen brown is a man who certainly needs no introduction, and his knack of channeling the best of detroit innovation and adding his own distinct flavours shows no sign of letting up. on >fuego< and >polar< brown takes us further into the jacking zone, his signature lush melodies driving up the rear until they envelope the tracks in a haze of deep and emotive vibrations, but never letting up on the tough rhythms. ben sims is drafted in to remix both tracks, leaving slicing shards of sound and roughing up the beat on his remix of >polar<, before delving into a hard-funk take of >fuego<. big business from two keepers of the true techno flame.
