for their tenth release, voodoo down has again chosen to debut a new act to add to their label roster. andy harper and nic ford have been making music together for over a decade but began releasing in earnest under the name maddermodes in 2014 on their own label, shift coordinate points. they have since put out records on the labels millions of moments and night drive music. their handful of releases have already drawn support from top names like move d and nick höppner, and its clear that the duos sound is only getting more refined with each successive record. the ep entitled emprical evidence is a wholly cinematic piece of work, spread across four tracks that unravel slowly, unified by a theme of pumping syncopated rhythms under sprawling pad and string progressions. its easy to get lost in the thick arrangements, and the inventive use of samples and melodic elements invite repeat listening. equally suitable for early morning hours, ultra-deep techno sets, or quiet home listening sessions.

hot off his collaboration with madlib and med (bad neighbor), socal ambassador blu has teamed up with the paris-based production team union to present “la counting”, the lead single off their forthcoming album cheetah in the city. featuring remixes by exile, dibiase, and yann kesz, this limited edition 10” delivers blu’s lyrical love letter to los angeles while union’s synth-soaked production marks a stylistic sea change for the below the heavens mc. rippling with 808s and cinematic strings, la counting is an organic evolution from the signature keyboard-driven sound that put union on the map in 2012 with analogtronics, their debut album featuring talib kweli, mf doom, elzhi, guilty simpson, and more. cheetah in the city will be released later this year on fat beats records, but until then the world will have to keep la counting.

a1 nubian mindz - deep in raves: well known for his versatile and rich production, colin delivers once more. with a quite suitable name - deep in raves is just that. a deep plunge into dark and rave-like atmosphere. after a short intro layered with an ominous voice, massive bassline takes over and drives the track through the darkest curves. enriched with short percussions and a synth stab this is quite a stomper best experienced on a good club soundsystem, preferably in the dark. a2 volster - nebula: almost obsessed with audio purity, volster manages to combine new and modern sounds with old-school genre roots. nebula is all about complexity. although it is based on an electro foundations, it s so much more. space filled with an oscillatory synth motion perplexed with smooth pads that gives the impression of an interstellar properties. no detail is left unengaged, from the 808 that keeps everything in motion to the subtle amount of panning. this is a beautifully crafted story by a producer who is slowly but steadily growing into one of the best croatian artists. b1 lucretio - dracula: the most famed beard of cadoneghe/italy has pulled another magic gem from his music source. widely known for his relentless tendency to push the analogue spectrum to it s extreme, lucretio surprises once more with his ability to blend simple pieces into an effective sub storm with almost comic like features. dracula is not your conventional tune and it s pretty obvious why as soon as you put the needle on. broke down rhythm is heavily fueled by polished but enormous sub background with sparse and ¥in your face¥ shots. seemingly random notes take a gloomy and powerful form during the break and soon the lurky atmosphere comes into picture. this is truly brilliance in it s full simplicity. if only bram stoker could hear this, he would probably be both stunned and amused! b2 james booth - jxst do it: one of our goals on vakum is to be on a lookout for a new and promising talents. berlin based james booth surely fits the bill. jxst do it is a seriously crafted track with rich rhythmic section wrapped in a steady build up. after the initial break-beat intro sliced in short chunks, subtle 303 bassline takes over and the rhythmic game begins. booth delivers a perfectly timed cuts accompanied by a diverse palette of percussions. this is a perfect piece for those build up moments in the club..

derek carr is a name known by few and far between, with only a handful of vinyl releases in the early 2000s, he built a worthy but unfortunately not widely-spread reputation for putting together stunning deep techno. originally pressed in finite numbers, the records have recently found themselves in demand on discogs, and rightly so, derek s music is in a class of its own. having been a big fan since his releases on then local (to label owner ben) leeds label geek records, for those that knoe has dug deep into the archives to put together a sizeable selection of dereks back catalogue, with some unreleased gems dotted amongst the classic must-haves.

the maghreban has been making dusty house music for a couple of years now and has put a few records out on his own imprint zoot and also on versatile records. some people have liked this. the maghreban found a bunch of old cassette tapes at his dads house. one said ‘alex july 84&#8242,,, on it. this tape was from alexandria, egypt in the summer of 1984. it had some interesting music recorded on it. the maghreban sampled a few of the tracks to make this one.

kris- & konflikthantering is swedish for crises and conflict management, as well as a course at university guiding you how to manage scenarios involving crises and strategies in handling conflicts. this album was put together while harald was taking this course. this album was made during semi-unconscious conditions and is an emotional transcription of experiences to the language of sequences and frequencies. the soundscape is a warm fuzzy travel from krauty basslines, vocal fragments and mantras through echoes and reverberating tunnels with shimmering arpeggios, field recordings and programed patterns in ancient japanese roland techniques. all recorded on the studer b67 master tape recorder, the heart of the kranglan broadcast studio.

uysr029 is the closing chapter of remixes for satori s longplayer. crussen from norway kicks of with a pretty down beat mix of days without you which is pure fun for the morning hours. amsterdam based olaf stuut instead did a driving mix of the wishing spell crossing borders between techno and electronica. hraach from spain put big emotions into his bad looking trouble remix deep house with sensual strings. last mix is from underyourskin resident thomas atzmann who gave a very new danceable attitude to the greatest against the world.

killer deep spaced out electro tracks!!! over 20 years ago shad t. scott and his pal seven set up isophlux records, miamis infamous first electronic imprint releasing, as they put techno, electro, funk, experimental, and anything good. now in year 2016, shad under his gosub alias releases this sunday at battle ship key titled ep for barba records, staying true to that initial principle. its far away from just being good though, its beautiful and warm electronic music at its best, oozing chill and feel good moods. original two tracks are accompanied with a remix by second time appearing on barba - jtc aka tadd mullinix who this time nicely surprised us with his ol school ny style house beauty. overall one fine classic record this, period.

side b is quite a different beast, and one that is quite dear to our heart, as it is the debut of local producing duo dos attack. not ones to release much info about themselves we only know that their debut track was so good it was decided to be put on the other side of a legowelt track.

ilija rudman is quite a unique character. a fact reinforced by listening to some of the records from his vast catalogue, taking a walk through his next level studio or simply talking to him. preferably, all three at once, as it is often the case. authenticity is the word that comes to mind when describing the work of this leading croatian artist or while listening to the material we are proud to put out on 12th burek release. the record features three cuts.

italian dj and producer manuel fogliata hasnt released a lot of records over the last ten years, but the few he has put out have always been worth tracking down. perhaps best known for his work alongside donato dozzy in creating the much sought-after aquaplano records at the tail end of the last decade, nuels solo outings have been just as consistent and just as impressive.

after their last release under the labels ornate music (uk) and finale sessions (us), ka one & st-sene are back with a special flyance records release. rework: the action of redoing, correcting or rebuilding that is the spirit they put in this ep with those four house music anthems of those consider today as the father figures of this music. without sampling, replaying all the keyboards and arpeggio, they turned thoses anthems into modern acid and techno vibe. from 1989 to 2015 ka one & st-sene give great tribute at lil louis, mr fingers, kerri chandler and laurent garnier.

finally the dudes behind the fantastic hell yeah recordings step out into the limelight on their own with their debut ep of on golf channel. and what a debut! tracks range from blissful, boogie influenced house music (adriatic bolt) to the 1992 style primal scream psychedelic chugging banger (quando) via sunny acid (quiet force) and deep emotional vocal led ambience (i don t care who you are). just as you d expect from the amazing sounds their label has put out over the years, this ep is uncategoriseable in the best possible way we look forward to hearing more from the aptly titled balearic gabba sound system, this is just an aperitivo, or is it a selection of antipasti. either way, it leaves you ready for the next course. golf channel every time!

mexican duo 4004 and sebastian vorhaus aka soul of hex have had a great few years under their various monikers with releases for dirt crew, vicario ltd and of course cvmr where they return to here following their debut ‘lip reading’. this inaugural release was accompanied by remixes from larry heard and put soul of hex on the map for the duo, with support coming from the likes of dj sneak, art department, sebo k, breach, shadow child and huxley to name but a few.

after a slew of solo releases and a few comps, marshall applewhite has teamed up with fellow detroit native kero to put together a 4 track collaborative effort that explores both the new sludge phenomenon and the more classic detroit techno/electro sound. within 4 songs the two have covered a wide base of musical information. comprised of 2 parts modular gear, 2 parts homemade reaktor patchwork, and 1 part raw machine funk, sewer tracks gives a good representation of each players musical aptitude.

brilliant tv and movie themes by francois de roubaix!!! on 20 november 1975 francois de roubaix disappeared while diving. before going towards this tragic death, francois had received an order for a television series theme tune commissaire moulin. as usual, the composed melody has been indelibly printed in the collective memory. francois de roubaix always put his fingers where it should be! between electronic tricks and acoustic works, this record brings the themes of this television series together with other musics composed for never released or still unknown projects... all unpublished music, never pressed on vinyl! it soon becomes clear that francois de roubaix feels confortable with this kind of exercises. the result is every time sublime. recommended!!
