proper heat slid onto the nangsphere last year with their nifty >we are ready< ep. they certainly were… good reception all around and some fine plaudits. fast forward on 6 months and we are really pleased that the follow up >move ep< hits the streets. proper heat are from lithuania and are made up of martin virgin, saxtone and some fine vocals from karolis ramoska. laid-back, accessible disco house is the order of the day with this ep. we have two finely voiced tracks. dulcet tones and catchy songs abound with karolis doing a fine job in the voice department. lead track >the move” is mid tempo groover. mixes from nang label new-long-found-friend james bright and label stalwart (and supertop photographer) ichisan… you are always a subject when you are in the same room as this guy…. snap snap snap. james grooves it up with tight synthy bass and ichisan gets electronic and rolling. you can check out the video for >the move< on youtube and our home page too. the equally able >get ready< also makes a strerling appearance on the ep. another fine disco groovoid song. all in all the package overflows with extra dubs and instrumentals. bountiful disco abounds.

pattern select aka milton jackson and show-b have gone well and truly back to the raw on this, their first collaborative work together and debut ep for delusions of grandeur. both producers have been busy on some top quality projects just recently with milton jackson remixing recloose for planet e and show b producing for robert owens on compost. the pair met at a party in munich, promptly fell in love, and soon enough pattern select was born. kicking off tale of the tape sees the pair go deep n dark on this low-slung groove where demonic laughter rides the driving hats and insesant crashes until the filtering arpeggiated synth line joins the fun. tale of the dub gives us a stripped back, dub-infused version which goes a little lighter on the craziness of the first version but without losing any of the deep, hypnotic funk.

meine zarten pfoten ( my tender paws ) is the eagerly-awaited album by lady ada that everybody s been longing to get a hold of for so long. her second album after debut blondie truly is a revelation. ada has successfully cast off that four-to-the-floor yoke and has recorded songs that go way beyond all our well-known categories, hovering above everything in a state of serene disengagement. it s certainly ppp in its broadest sense, but ultimately it s a work of music that radiates such an amazing warmth and tranquility that it will even sedate the biggest nervous wreck into a state of subtle receptiveness. this record is your friend. it s a shining light of beauty, glowing from the inside. humans have feelings. and it s only the noblest of feelings that these nine songs arouse. after listening to them you’re left with a slightly sheepish smile on your face. and then you press play again

dont we all feel suspended in time sometimes? the older you get the more difficult it becomes tofollow a straight time line through your past. some years felt really long and some others didnt andespecially when you think about your childhood, time seems to be something pretty vague. but that makes life so special from time to time, the million ways of feeling how time passes by. the fact that our time is limited, is probably the biggest impulsion we have. without an impulsion to do, change or create something, life would be pretty boring. so smoke some nice icegrass, play this shit loud and get suspended in time! peace

after the roaring success of nicolas jaars space is only noise album the fine curatorial heads at circus company hq have enlisted 2 of their nearest, dearest and most talent co-conspirators for the first round of remix duties. having built a cult following and peerless reputation for his remixes of everyone from roy ayers to cassius, pépé bradock turns in no less than 3 versions of too many kids finding rain in the dust. the proceedings begin with his blind pig mix, an echoing tunnel of balkan strings and dusty samples connecting the lands of disco and hip hop to blinding effect. the train fantôme poke follows and is certain to find its way into many a discerning dj bag in the weeks and months to come, with its mathew herbert-esque syncopations and grinding industrial scrapes and psychedelic whispers. dave aju takes up the baton on the flip turning the albums title track into the kind of late 80s dance floor work out martin hannet would have been proud of, certain to appeal to fans of recent work by matias aguayo, rebolledo and the comeme camp.

for all the wonderfully subtle shell-breaking he did on his full-length, mark e falls back on old, slow habits for his new single, >the day<. and welcomely, we might add. pitching things down to a basement lounge floor crawl, the midlands dj/producer wraps his always chugging kicks and snares in serpentine synth-bass, jazzy, tripleted hi-hats, and moaning, wordless soul vocals. its grasp is tantric—hinting coyly at ecstatic release, but never fully delivering. for the vinyl junkies that bought stone breaker and missed out on it the first time around (it was absent from that version), this release should be a no brainer. but >the day< isnt carrying all the weight here. a new track called >special fx< will have sample hounds—particularly those with a thing for classic electro-pop—salivating. and the oft imitated, never replicated prins thomas shows up on the flip for a (naturally) eleven- minute revamp of >the day<, livening up the bass and drum patterns, adding in strings, piano, guitar, organ, and ending up with something that totally could have emanated from a camaro at some point in the early seventies. (albeit, one owned by someone with interest in eleven-minute instrumentals.) it even has a fade out!

already in the forth installment, claap continues its streak of quality releases. this time label head gummihz is back with a breazy and grooving maxi titled >head rush<. featuring four new cuts welcoming the summer heat. >head rush< is a captivating piece reminiscent of that 90s ny house sound. it is a nod to the past with a touch of now. breezy and cool, with the sort of drums that will keep the floor pumping. the drums out mix is a more pumped out version of the original, stripped down to the drums and voices. >secret voyage< taps into a more ballearic atmosphere. a captivating arpeggio draws the frame to a very elegant arrangement of organic rhythmical elements. >ruff passage< is a dubbier cut which was created to remind you of previous house producers of the ruff, think everybody be somebody (ruffneck)!! a must have for all occasions to keep the heat on!!

in the context of electronic music, 12 years is damn near eternity, and though those who have lived it may not remember all the stops along the way, the ones who have kept on top of scott monteiths deadbeat music project will tell you he has been no slouch. through 6 critically acclaimed albums for scape and wagon repair, as well as countless singles, remixes, compilation appearances, and last years radio rothko dj mix, monteith has explored the art of dub in a staggering array of contexts, and staked his claim as one of it s strongest champions. and while the last few years have seen him concentrate on the more dance floor oriented side of things, his latest album and first release on his new blkrtz imprint sees monteith returning to his roots in the headiest and heaviest of dub business.

continuing on the passenger 140 bass quest we have a new signing to the label but certainly not new to the scene by any means! 601 has been bashing out the breakbeat / jungle hybrid for a while now and is one reason why passenger and label owners aquasky are revitalised by the scene.

for more than a year, third ear and benjamin have been selecting tracks for this ep and for an album to follow later in the year. the wait was largely due to the track no kicks, which initially used a chuck d acapella, titled no. when third ear couldn?t get clearance for the acapella, we suggested to benjamin that we try and think of another poet/rapper who could produce an original lyric inspired by chuck d?s flow. after some thought we suggested diamondancer, who was inspired to write the lyric she performs here. stay hungry stay foolish and acidic sun are delicious and dreamy, with a fat pulsing groove. hello ammmerika is more urgent, pushing the groove constantly.

the latest release from the fizzy duck camp comes with the inclusion of a fantastic new artist from france, florian muller. we also have a fantastic track by carlos nillmns - >cielo< made by carlos in homage to the cielo club in new york and the sound that anthony parasole is playing there. fantastic piece of music by mr nillmnns. the third track on the 12 inch is carlos nillmmns & ian elgey back again on la derive de nuit, a summery vibe house track with a sweet bassline and deep sound to it.
