some believe that the environment in which you make music � from the studio space, to the location itself � has a profound effect on the creative process. immerse yourself in the world around you, the theory goes, and it will shape the music you make. listen to gorthleck, the third album from veteran downtempo alchemists benjamin smith and paul �mudd� murphy, and you can almost visualize the craggy, windswept and breathtakingly beautiful environment in which it was made.

following the release of 2015�s animistas album on mindtours, steevio returns with the fourth and final volume in the modular techno series after starting the project in 2012. initially conceived as he moved his studio practice towards a purely outboard, analogue, modular synthesiser set up, the modular techno series has charted the development of steevio�s exploration of this working practice both on record and on stage. the work involved in live appearances across the uk and europe over the past four years have fed into the creative process, with rehearsals for sets often yielding the material that has ended up on vinyl. volume 4 is arguably the darkest instalment in the series to date, dealing in a strict economy of minimalist rhythms and off-key melodic touches while still easily identified as the unmistakable tones and distinctive grooves of steevio. in the grand tradition of techno as visionary music, the dystopian tone that lingers throughout modular techno vol 4 points to a future of uncertainty, but this is far from nihilistic music, always within the darkness remains a glimmer of hope.

u has always displayed an unironic conformity to his own absolutely genuine/occasionally challenging ideal as to what a release should entail. after a series of predominantly, and (in the most loving sense) maybe begrudgingly, dance floor oriented eps, vienna orchestra is a long overdue insight into his core fascination as a musician, making complex and intriguing experimental pieces that belie the humble mode of their creation, recording from vinyl records and manipulating the audio on old school samplers. this lp is an insight into scores of hours of twiddling with loops and sequences to create music far removed from its source material (dusty classical records acquired on a trip to vienna). this is a dense, blunted world, which holds the sound of a musician indulging their own ear�s obsessions and insatiable curiosity.

that night, we answered a regular call, something about crazy loud noises coming out from a basement. while driving to the area all i could think when i first heard the bass stomping was: �man, whatever, this doesn t even sound like music to me.� and we were at least a 100 meter away from the source of the sound. when we got there, after knocking several times on the door, we decided we had more than enough probable causes to bust in. after a warning, we kicked the door open. what we saw inside was a five feet tall woman jumping around in that cacophony. we screamed and she ignored us, my colleague then panicked and shot her with his taser several times � she then simply pulled the probes out of her body shouting moments moments � and continued to jump around..

a multi-instrumentalist, robert was trained in saxophone starting at age 10, before moving onto a fender telecaster after high school. after being exposed to southern california rave culture in the late 90s, he moved onto djing and collecting records. by the time he planted his roots in san francisco in 2005,robert had built an impressive analog synth-based studio, which also serves as the creative hub for his riveting live performances.

deep love is the first vinyl release by stefano pozzi, dj producer and musician. it�s very difficult to define his sound: his creative process led him to merge several genres in a very original way. the artist shows us a great talent combining different electronic styles from deep house to soulful house, new jazz and chill out music. stefano is also a guitar player. with his releases, he shows us how to bring guitar sounds together with electronic music in a brilliant way. in this 12 inch ep, that could be defined as deep house, the artist has worked to merge various elements of house music: the warm sound of a moog organ with a deep drum kick, the use of hypnotic and rhythmic vocal samples, the presence of many jazz and soul contaminations due to the acoustic guitar.

a1 nubian mindz - deep in raves: well known for his versatile and rich production, colin delivers once more. with a quite suitable name - deep in raves is just that. a deep plunge into dark and rave-like atmosphere. after a short intro layered with an ominous voice, massive bassline takes over and drives the track through the darkest curves. enriched with short percussions and a synth stab this is quite a stomper best experienced on a good club soundsystem, preferably in the dark. a2 volster - nebula: almost obsessed with audio purity, volster manages to combine new and modern sounds with old-school genre roots. nebula is all about complexity. although it is based on an electro foundations, it s so much more. space filled with an oscillatory synth motion perplexed with smooth pads that gives the impression of an interstellar properties. no detail is left unengaged, from the 808 that keeps everything in motion to the subtle amount of panning. this is a beautifully crafted story by a producer who is slowly but steadily growing into one of the best croatian artists. b1 lucretio - dracula: the most famed beard of cadoneghe/italy has pulled another magic gem from his music source. widely known for his relentless tendency to push the analogue spectrum to it s extreme, lucretio surprises once more with his ability to blend simple pieces into an effective sub storm with almost comic like features. dracula is not your conventional tune and it s pretty obvious why as soon as you put the needle on. broke down rhythm is heavily fueled by polished but enormous sub background with sparse and ¥in your face¥ shots. seemingly random notes take a gloomy and powerful form during the break and soon the lurky atmosphere comes into picture. this is truly brilliance in it s full simplicity. if only bram stoker could hear this, he would probably be both stunned and amused! b2 james booth - jxst do it: one of our goals on vakum is to be on a lookout for a new and promising talents. berlin based james booth surely fits the bill. jxst do it is a seriously crafted track with rich rhythmic section wrapped in a steady build up. after the initial break-beat intro sliced in short chunks, subtle 303 bassline takes over and the rhythmic game begins. booth delivers a perfectly timed cuts accompanied by a diverse palette of percussions. this is a perfect piece for those build up moments in the club..

nine tracks that further expand on alessandros interpretation of ghoulish body music. alessandro adriani has become a trusted source for all kinds of beyond-the-grave minimal synth, industrial and coldwave delights.aside from his work in releasing forgotten gems and up to the minute synth incantations, adriani has also been quietly issuing out his own music as well. primarily this has taken the shape of newclear waves, having surfaced on split tapes and 7inches on mannequin as well as an album on desire back in 2012.
