brian leeds produces electronic music under the name huerco s. his debut album for software is titled colonial patterns. on colonial patterns, leeds treats his kansas city region as a universe worthy of its own electronic music. to that end, leeds deconstructs midwestern techno and house tropes. the pieces are corrugated, rough, and decompositional. working cheaply, leeds conscientiously uses low-end software, synths and cassettes so as to subvert the gloss of so much urban dance music, giving tracks an impressionistic, emotive feel. the result is uniquely midwestern: there is an expansiveness to each piece that suits the open space and the storied past of its inhabitants.

for the fourth r-zone, we serve up three more tracks of fizzing atmospheric house. first track exclamation is rough and rugged with rattling percussion hidden behind layers of grainy sci fi ambiance and the breathy exhalations of a male voice. nebulous pads and synths spiral around each other forming a dense layer of dust and next track march of the worms is even more militant. this one crawls deep below the surface where analogue machines carve out weird patterns, forming a truly knackered sounding house groove. finally, claustrophobic habits bangs a bit harder, its all splintered drums and coarse claps backed with a howling, gnarly groan and truly transports you to a sonic universe miles away from the norm.

after more than a decade of silence no gigs, no music, no nothing, gramme return with their debut album fascination. the cult around the band and their lone release, the pre-release ep, continued to grow until in 2011 some mysterious 12inch bootlegs of like u began to appear, with edits by joe goddard of hot chip. a few months later self released white labels begin to circulate with new gramme material. those recent eps have gone on to form fascination, the first full studio album by gramme

beach mode (keep it simple) is the perfect snapshot of ikonikas new album aerotropolis. it is also her first vocal track, graced with the voice of *one to watch*, jessy lanza. beach mode combines sunny salsa-like chords and claves, inspired by latin freestyle dance music from the 80s, with jessys vocals cutting in over some soaring rough synths. it is a refreshingly straight forward and sensual piece of pop dance. side b starts with a dub mix for all the vocal haters, while the percapella version breaks it down into a syncopated drum track and a slightly dubbed take on the vocals, giving it a tracky and colder toughness reminiscent of early chicago house music. get into beach mode.

wilde calm records is proud to present some say, a recently discovered song from the archive of arthur russell. the track was produced and mixed by arthur in 1985 for a solo project of steven halls that was originally intended for release on rough trade records. legendary disco producer bob blank recorded and engineered the project at his connecticut-based studio. some say features arthurs classic cello basslines, cracking boom bap drums and stevens floating vocals and synth pads. in true arthur fashion, the song abrubtly stutters, slinks and lurches halfway through for steven to complete his buddhist pop mantra. the b-side features an extended rework of some say by pocketknife using arthurs boss dr. rhythm dr-55 drum machine.

ltd to 200 copies! tonkind is coming up with a release of head and founder edgar peng, who worked here rather more on a tool, as you could find it back in the 90ies classified as detroit sound. now >lahars< and >surges< suppose to be a paraphrase of this origin sound. discomposure, harshness and yet a sweet tingling tension is running throughout the tracks. repetitive grooves with a touch of polyrhythmic and bumpy rough surfaces are creating an atmosphere of infinity. once you have closed the eyes and the rhythm is riding your skin, you might feel a certain vibe, followed by a vision of bellevilles backyards.
