dark entries is honored to release a 4-track ep by red axes, the prolific production duo of dori sadovnik and niv arzi from tel aviv. the pair were raised on a diet of post-punk, new-wave, and italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. their own productions and remixes have appeared on labels such as i?m a clich?, correspondant, and hivern discs. ?nyx tape? features two new compositions backed with two edits from our catalog. first up is the slick electro anthem ?5 min? another collaboration with french-canadian born singer chlo? raunet aka c.a.r. followed by ?nyx tape? featuring charismatic singer-lyricist gina kikoine aka gina x, who reached out after hearing their remix of her classic single ?no gdm? that was a huge anthem on the tel aviv 80s underground scene. the track is an ecstatic dance to the rhythm in the darkness with gina?s ice cold teutonic spoken word taking creative inspiration from the jewish mourners? prayer ? the kaddish. on the b-side ?destination moon? by solid space from 1982 has been given a dancefloor makeover with moody synths and a haunting guitar line reminiscent of an adrian sherwood dub. closing this ep is a hypnotic edit of ?la machine ? r?ver? by french bedroom synth freaks x-ray pop from 1984 slowed down to a 4/4 groove that takes the original to outer space and back. all songs have been mastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the ep is housed in a custom made jacket that features an original collage by eloise leigh representing nyx, the greek goddess of the night. each copy included a postcard with notes and lyrics.

acid paulis second album ‘bld dropped earlier this year to a rapturous reception. martin gretschmanns trippy opus took in various stops around the musical spectrum, yet remained committed to quality dance-floor tracks that refuse to follow any particular rule book. this collection of remixes of the albums a side (hence the name) only adds to that achievement - bringing yet more new flavours and takes from some of the most exciting names in the underground. ‘abbebe gets a rework from sainte vie who brings his trademark ‘multicultural electro sound to the albums opener, and produces an ecstatic mid-paced groover for the heads. oceanvs orientalis drops a similarly exciting rerub, finding new angles and dimensions to the track ‘baris. tel avivs red axes turn up the psychedelica for the duos amazing dissection of ‘ayam - deep sounds immersed in acidic tones and tight-yet-wonky arrangements. lastly ‘majid gets the treatment from label co-head nico stojan who produces a sleek and spacy remix that will delight the early morning ravers.

while red axes s ode to the sun is still running strong one and a half years after its release (it even made it into last year s top 50 at resident advisor), here comes the heavyweight remix package: german wunderkind konstantin sibold is hitchhiking the original into afro rave territories with vodoo percussions and a hauting bassline that will be hard to escape from. fango from the italian degustibis family continues his string of strong remixes as he turns the original into a rough beat version just to drop the melody in the break for maximum dancefloor mayhem. and last but not least the axes themselves come up with a tropical house version that works any time any place. and thus the sun continues to shine.

it was such a hot day in may 2014, we all remember, moscoman drop by his home town of tel aviv to do a party with krikor aka crackboy as his guest, they had a few hours to kill just before the gig, mosco rang up his old compadres and brothers in arms red axes, to see what they were up to, they were just hanging at the studio, “we’re coming” he said, and the rest is history, thanks to the taxi driver abed that was waiting downstairs to take them to the gig, they had vocals to finish this track and mosco had the chance to play this track that night already. powered by a uncompromising mix from no doubt one of the best producers of electronic music, roman flügel, and another killer by red axes, not a lot is left to do but wait for this monster record to drop.

lena platonos is a pioneer of the greek electronic music scene of the 1980s. she produced and released her second solo album, gallop, in 1985 that de reissued in 2015.

mosco fell asleep and awoke days later with red axes. this is their joint offering for the esp institute. dikembe manutu, the fictional character whos name gives title to our thumping a side, establishes a lush theme based on meandering steel drums and reverberating toms while a slew of rich percussion leads us through the jungle on a melodic galloping bassline. once this deep groove gets us rolling, were treated to a variety of twinklling melodies that float high above. on side b, rage in the cage is a true live drum machine jam, full of bleeps, detuned toms, abrasive cymbals, and plenty of left turns. we can only imagine the mood in the studio as these three old friends frantically smacked buttons and tweaked knobs, creating happy accidents and loving every menacing moment of chaos as they stirred this cauldron. these two songs will make you thirst for exotic nectars.

as big fans of red axes, were happy to welcome niv and dori to the label. their first release for hivern is pil sagol, a three-track ep that features some of their most adventurous material to date. the title track is a slice of shamanic house full of playful melodies, dripping textures and steady rhythms that result in the sonic equivalent of psychotropic trip through the jungle. me and abra in ruanda drops the tempo but keeps the mind-expanding effect with its mangled brass sounds and ceremonious pads. todum todum is the most dance floor-driven cut of the ep, building tension through distorted toms, reverberant claps and an unrelenting bass line whilst keeping the narcotic vibe of the whole release through highly enchanting cosmic melodies. the 12inch comes in a captivating sleeve by barcelona-based designer xavier marin.

as headman gears up to release his sixth album it appears he is having something of an identity crisis... is he headman? or is he, as his mother named him, robi insinna? either way, he is one of disco s most daring of producers and, monikers aside, anything he releases is well worth your attention. especially this first sampler from the album 6. a collaborative affair, each track sees him teaming up with kindred spirits and friends to forge new groove paths and re-position old references. -work- takes a kraftwerkian recipe and stretches it like a well made pizza dough, -barbarism- dusts off the cosmic guitars for an enlightened star-gazing session, -der- sits happily between black strobe and jeff wayne while -sleep red- cruises towards dfa city limits in a cowbell escalade. each one of them will have you hankering for the album. guaranteed.

red axes is niv arzi and dori sadovnik, two young men who have always lived in tel-aviv and have been making music together since the noughties. ballad of the ice is their debut album. their artistic travels have taken them from the rock scene to the dancefloors, and to creating an album. more than a summary, this lp is an invitation to discover a singular musical identity: a ballad of the ice, a song as light as love and cold as a tunnel, springy as a dance step and deep as nostalgia.
