repress 2020 - derek carr is a name known by few and far between, with only a handful of vinyl releases in the early 2000s, he built a worthy but unfortunately not widely-spread reputation for putting together stunning deep techno. originally pressed in finite numbers, the records have recently found themselves in demand on discogs, and rightly so, derek s music is in a class of its own. having been a big fan since his releases on then local (to label owner ben) leeds label geek records, for those that knoe has dug deep into the archives to put together a sizeable selection of derek s back catalogue, with some unreleased gems dotted amongst the classic must-haves, spread across three eps part three in derek s starts with cuba, probably the most sought after track in his back catalogue. it s stunning simplicity and charming summer vibe puts it amongst derek s greatest works and understandably so. red then slots into the a2 position which was originally released under the radar on a headspace compilation. as warm as cuba but with an added touch of melancholy. truly outstanding deep house. iceberg takes things back more into techno territory with a funked up bass line, stepping rhythms, detroit strings and those trademark twinkly leads. finally penthouse apartment 3am a lush electro breakbeat track from the very hard to find trident release, rounds off the ep with aplomb
2020 repress !! about the bamboo recordings: jacobus derwort started exploring sonic soundscapes listening to his short-wave world receiver at the age of 12. there he would hear music from africa, china, japan, indonesia, south america and beyond. he started playing guitar, piano, percussion and saxophone. he met hanyo van oosterom in 1978 and they started the legendary cult rock band, the jones . derwort was playing the sax, van oosterom the drums. they started conducting sound experiments in hanyo’s small cellar in the dutch village of krimpen aan den ijssel. in the early eighties they made their first cassette, the kallikatsou . hanyo started the ambient collective chi in 1983. jacobus was the first musician to join chi. together, they went to the magic rock “the kallikatsou” on the island of patmos, greece. here, hanyo had stayed for months in a cave for some deep soul-searching. he heard the sound of chi in the silence of the night like a message from out of space. being together at the kallikatsou they shaped the foundation of chi, making handmade flutes from local bamboo and conducting field recordings of water, crickets, owls, goats, wind, etc...

vril debuted on the delsin-label with his excellent vortekz ep early in 2014, which came after releases on his family-label giegling and also semantica in previous years, and was followed up by the torus lp, a double 12- on giegling affiliate forum. now he s back with his second full length. one day vril sat down in his station and suddenly a portal opened. thru a kind of timehole infinitive moments passed by. luckily he was able to capture a few of those to share with us. the portal closed. nothing was left, no questions.. only this lp.

vinyl only! after our first reissue of the mover in 2014, forbidden planet is back with two-part reissue of seminal material from the late 90s to early 00s by doomcore pioneer, fifth era. fifth era consisted of a group of musicians from the uk and czech republic who pushed a slower, darker version of hardcore. their transgressive style had an irrefutable impact on the underground and we hope that this release goes a way to reintroduce fifth eras unique sound to a new generation.
