mika vainio, currently based in berlin, was one half of the minimal electronic duo pan sonic from finland, (the other half was ilpo väisänen). before starting pan sonic in beginning of the 90 s mika vainio has played electronics and drums as part of the early finnish industrial and noise scene. his solo works, under his own name and under aliases like Ø, are known for their analogue warmth and electronic harshness. be it abstract drone works or minimal avant techno, vainio is always creating unique, physical sounds.

going home late one foggy night in london, i turn the corner to see my bus waiting at the bus stop, lights on, doors open, completely empty. i get on the bus and wait, a few minutes later the driver gets on, he was hiding behind a tree. now i always call it the ghostbus. stopping and starting, traveling along are the landscapes of sound recordings, perfectly balanced between synthetic and abstract layers of sounds. ghostbus invites you to travel along an electronic road of pulses and distortion, a travel between vintage and modern atmospheres, shifting into automatic vintage synthesis gears, a journey into the dark and cold nights of london. samp gives this music his trademark ambience in confined spaces sound, helped along by nax_acid both in collaboration and with his own edit version

revys music is strange. there really is no better way to put it. having grown up in the pacific northwest usa before moving to tokyo, the influence and contrast of nature and technology are made clear in his mesmerizing pieces. his sound is one that is complicated, rapidly revolving between themes which are at times serious, beautiful, strong and others almost comical and ridiculous. each track encompasses such an emotional gamut that they themselves seem to be intelligent entities.

odaka (also known as rawakari) delivers some nice abstract techno in the best idm tradition. he dabbles here with a flurry of machines, to obtain that distinctive analogue sound to go back to the basics. even the graphic design is the result of a more back to basics technique, without the assistance of a computer once again, but rather via sketching and plain and simple drawing. a very sincere and sympathetic release on this belgium label (brussels to be precise, wallonia, roughly same areas as confined). record is mastered by pascal demez (herrmutt lobby, kadah/vresky) check!

profan (...remember wolfgang voigts abstract techno label from the 1990s) is back from the future, and again complicates the situation. like his earlier projects, the brand new sog (strictly limited to 400 copies) release combines seemingly familiar and extremely unfamiliar signs, and in the most unusual way bends them around the utterly familiar bass drum. the result is a conspiracy of four sound frescos of peculiar beauty, and indeed they deserve the title abweichung (engl. deviance) - named after voigts painting featured on the cover. this is minimal art techno that raises questions.
profan 32 will be released before profan 31which will be released a bit later. yet both are heralds of the art publication/double cd compilation: wolfang voigt – werkschau to be released in spring 2010.
