diva is a project which explores the outer regions of technos psyche - combining the trippy sensuality of chris & cosey with the brutalist analogue aesthetic of the likes of robert hood or liasons dangereuses. inspired by the vocal histrionics of strobe lit sirens such as loleatta holloway and jocelyn brown, diva calls on the protean roots of basement club music. lead track >paris stabbing< is a stunning excursion into motor city madness, abstracted disco vocals clash with a broken digi-arpeggio and hooverish bass break down, whilst the flip side >but i ve never< imposes a detuned synth siren over an industrial bass sequence and sp1200 piano stabs to eerie effect. also included is the >paris stabbing (beats)< which pares down the original, adding detuned melodic percussion into a minimalist after hours tool.

genius of time are back after a great year with houston, we have a problem on royal oak, gliese 581g on aniara, several excellent remixes and extensive touring with their unique, all-hardware live set that spans 30 years of music technology in one show. this release features two of the highlights from their current set: a-side tuffa trummor med synt is a new jersey house bomb for the year 2012, whereas tuffa trummor med röst on the flip follows up last years science fiction with an off the hook beat, expertly processed vocals and a strings breakdown reminiscent of that mid-90s inner city vibe. artwork by jeffrey meyers.. essential!

burkhardts latest stroke, including the hit delight. now we are back again with a charming selection of remixes, including work by tobi neumann and julien veniel aka djulz. tobi neumanns remix reminds the attentive listener to the old days of oslo. it is so to speak on the point. its light, but still complex in a special way. tobi carefully unhinged the catchy vocals of delight, added it at some points and put his glance over it. the b-side is home to djulzs interpretation of pianissimo. a dark and powerful house track, that finds its glory in its simplicity. a subtle piano sample is the basis for a forward moving drum pattern. here and there an eerie vocal shot rises and guides the dancer through the musical mind of djulz.

boris bunnik goes under many aliases. numerous smaller projects, some huge faceless projects but mostly known and well respected for his conforce project. as versalife he found his way to the clone familia for his night time activities project, and around this same period we just managed to pull out the best suitable tracks for frustrated funk. versalife is electro-techno in its purest form. deep and intense analog rhythms with crisp percussion patterns slightly touching the more experimental side of things. this ep is a nice balanced mixture of industrial drone material to more classic sounding electro with versalifes own signature strength. highly recommended as always!

razor rekta has proved to be a serious addition to the chestplate team, bringing a new dimension with his unruly, dread-inducing signature sound. the london-based producer has a hefty collection of fresh dubplates ready to cause damage, and a couple of killer beats were dropped on his debut chestplate record, >loko-motiv< and >development<. this december sees more heat-tempered firepower released on 12 inch, with the speaker stack-rupturing >bang ya door< on the a-side, and no-nonsense brute force of >kickstart< on the flip.

with making his solo debut on ftw recordingz, elia vens only reveals a small fragment of his musical diversity. on side a, he really pulls out all stops with the track >jamon<. the distinctive baseline and the pumping kicks on this track will definitely light the fire for an inferno on the dance floor. high spirits guaranteed!
in contrast, the flying flute edit doesnt come like a bull at a gate and initially appears slightly atmospheric and subtle. the deep toms and analogous drums still care for a drifty groove and colour the track in a fragile paint of house. emotions culminate in the hypnotic flute playing right in the middle of the track which hijacks you to a journey of elia vens. enjoy your flight!

atjazz & fred everything are back together again. their last collaboration dates 2010 on lazy days but the pair have been friends since the late 90s and have collaborated and remixed each other countless times. the beast and the ghost explores the deeper, dubber side of their production. the project was started in derby and finished in san francisco, while atjazz worked on his inside dub from home. this will be featured on the upcoming lazy dubs compilation, out in january.

is it balearic side label magic wand returns with another stunning va collection in the celebrated series, and comes jam-packed with four fantastic balearic wonders, respectfully extended and amended. magic? you bet.

the a side arbitrary stakes out its intentions early with a solid groove and dubbed out stabs. a little vocal in the main breakdown increases the tension before it all kicks back in with a reassuring thud. on the flip galaxy high is equally deep but opts for some juno chords and soaring strings to bring it life. finally on lgb some 80s soul samples are worked in to a slightly tougher electronic jam.

dusty baron aka latecomer may be a recent arrival on the scene, but he plays like a true veteran. a mysterious export from the around same eastern latitudes as label boss vakula, his music, much like vs, sounds just as rooted in the post soviet russian landscape as it is in the post industrial north america which gave rise to all the soul and machine funk that is the driving inspiration for so many of todays roots conscious electronic artists. vakula takes the controls on side a with dubwise and exotic production skills whilst side b showcases the barons heavy heavy chops, with drum programming as deft as his keys work, and a sound which is equal parts earthly and heavenly. sides c & d (on bonus 7inch) see v step up to offer two takes on >follow shot<, continuing the theme of techno tinged jazz cosmism. a noble introduction, by way of collaboration, to the dusty baron and his sound, and yet another installment in lelekas continuing contribution to the musical space time continuum.

so this is the first release from myself and kate rathod s new vinyl label which we started so that we could release our more diverse music. this ep ranges from ambient and electronica on one side through to two solid techno tracks on the flip side. future releases will see collaborations with blm, nick lawson, bangla design and more.

the creative combo doppelgaenger, pitchbar records latest offspring, are hitting the club scene with their vinyl debut >lumberjack<.
in the track >flavoured funk<, doppelgaenger live out their hard-edged, pushing, deep side. the slightly trancy elements are joined by a hard kick drum and somewhat deep vocals contributing to the tracks dark and driving atmosphere. this track represents a homage to the thick tree trunk that drives itself firmly into the earth, covered by a resilient bark and crowned by its old cracking branches.
the second track, >i feel good now<, mirrors the trees lush foliage. somewhat lighter around the treetop, there is nonetheless a solid body below, which can be played into wide space. >i feel good now< gives us the lightness to leap from branch to branch and up into the crown that protrudes into a dark night time sky.

bring u up originally appeared on romans blackmale label in 1995 as a rumbling slice of new jersey garage complete with gospel samples and romanthony collaborator the trojan horse. it was a bit of a cult favourite with underground heads like dj deep. it wasnt until roman completely re-produced and re-sang the song in 2000 that it fully took on anthem status. out went the heavy kicks and hypnotic moods and in came james brown horn stabs and a live beat that sounded like bernard purdie had joined him for the session (the drums were actually provided by roman himself). the result was an instant club hit with everyone from pete tong to francois kevorkian that reached (a very respectable 74) in the uk national charts. on this 12 inch deetrons takes the funk vibe of romans 2000 version and toughens it up for todays dancefloors, lee webster adds a monster baseline and some serious beats. on the flip-side the original blackmale version is re-issued on vinyl for the first time as is an unreleased dj friendly edit of the 2000 version done by kevin mckay.

continuing their forays into the world of yesteryear grooves unabated, those pesky hell-dwelling lumberjacks are at it again, this time drafting in o boogie and red greg for some disco funk finesse for the smoothest get-downs. o boogie lords it over the first side, leaning heavy on a rich piano hook that hammers lower register chords over an incessant disco tick, while evergreen track >papa was a rolling stone< gets re-versioned in such a floor-burning fashion you will need asbestos boots just to get out alive. red gregs >inner rhythm< plies familiar tropes into a sweet instrumental groove that makes all the right moves.

psychemagik return to their disco imprint label discotheque wreckers with a fresh new 12inch of unknown nuggets and killer edits. the first cut what a funky night as the title suggests is a raw funky disco floorfiller, a freaky blend of euro rap and oddball new wave femme vox, from austria of all places, the b side rounds off the 12inch perfectly with a dubbed out, arpeggiated krautrock jam, with freaky vox, funky guitar licks and nasty ass drums makes this an essential crate dweller!

making all the right moves with previous form on aus, needwant and tusk wax, ejeca is well tapped into the revivalist house zeitgeist with these hale and hearty jams for waze & odyssey. solid inner city chords and crisp, bright drums abound on side a, with >night rays< sure to inflict some damage with its fulsome square wave bassline. on the flipside, >never forge< ups the tempo for a cut that dresses like tech house but moves like 2-step. waze & odyssey themselves bring a smoother, deeper vibe to bear on their remix of >riddim<, pulling the melodic content right back to subtle flecks for a greater dramatic impact.

away from the hypnotic mayhem of the floating roofscapes, we see fractured images cycling faster. just as clouds follow the wind, airy soundscapes track the low-end groundwork with grainy artifacts bursting in amongst the thick. lost in this surrounding ambience, the b side carves its way with a resonant materiality where shattering hi-hats pull you out of a hypnotic semi-dormant state. (b2) enters a sound voyage, an intimate balance between gloomy atmospheres, dark sirens and repeated upcoming unidentified melodies, that play against the ceaseless motion of the hi-hat motive.

pulse locker refers to the analog method of synching analog modular instruments and drum machines, a method of working john tejada & josh humphrey have embraced to generate their trademark sounds and grooves. preferring to work away from the computer as much as possible, john and josh have adapted a more old school approach to their work, syncing analog gear together, not from a computer, but the way it was synced back in the day. the results are a tight, organic analog sound showcased particularly by the 2nd track >bifur gates<. with a tr-808 as master clock, syncing the modular system, the sound takes you back to the mid 90s era of techno. real 808 beats, punchy bass and an ever so shifting classic chord line will leave you lingering for the days of old. on the a side, >pulse locker< with its big and warm groove, gets things moving with a blend of house and techno. rounding out the ep, >unanimous arc< showcases the mad acid sounds possible on the sh-101 while modular chords elevate the track to a manic pace. >pulse locker< marks the duos third collaboration on palette recordings.

after the zohar comes black dynamite aka ivano tetelepta – another well kept secret in the house music scene. on his city to city ep the man delights us with three raw and extremely funky tracks which display a deep love for oldschool hip-hop beats. in fact, these three tracks oscillate heavily between stripped down, soulinfluenced house and instrumental hip-hop. and everyone who knows tenderpark will immediately understand that this is just the perfect synthesis of some of our main interests.

coming in the wake of critically acclaimed debut album ‘trouble’ and a string of radio 1 playlisted singles, ‘your love’ is another uniquely brilliant dance record from orlando higginbottom (aka teed). the a side features the pearson sound remix. the son of a music professor at oxford university, orlando has already had an incredible journey in a short space of time, working with the likes of damon albarn, lady gaga and hot chip, releasing his first few records with joe goddard’s tastemaker dance label greco-roman.

incl 2 bit crew, lgg, volta cab and rosenhaft. 2 bit crews just cant seem. taking a sound heavily influenced by the underground house music / garage sound of the 90s, this is a bumping groove with a driving bassline and hatswith a simple female vocal sample that will stick in your brain. the second track takes things deeper with bastien carrara aka lgg with let me, smooth rhodes chords with a love sensation sample underpinned by raw beats and sub-bass. on the second side things get a little tougher. the third track is from a producer who has had many releases already on labels such as balance alliance, seven music and undertones, konstantyn isaev, better known as volta cab. his track what is underground focuses primarily on a killer bassline, retro synth stabs and a cheeky hip-hop sample used to great effect. finally is haim rosenhaft, a young producer from israel with 1992, his homage consists of an old school organ sound with heavy kicks and snares influenced by the sound of labels like umm and cleveland city in the 90s. again this will be a vinyl only release

haling from asuncion, lpzs ariel soler, javier rodriguez and jorge carron have spent the past 4 years gradually putting paraguay on the dance music map. for whats proving to be their watershed year, may saw the trio release the well-circulated >1983< ep via the body work imprint, shortly before delivering an era-themed mix for the fashion rag, dazed & confused. now, following on from a recent collaboration with hyperdubs lv, the south americans make their debut on the long serving loungin recordings. >the benedict & grace ep< combines two purpose-made productions specifically crafted to align with the west london imprints heritage for house at the deeper end of the spectrum. cloaked in hardware reverb, a-side >benedict< takes deep house to the doors of driving dub-techno, while >grace< represents a refined garage roller, more respective of loungins output in the early-2000s. over on the flip, rotterdams increasingly revered bruk-step lynchpin c.o.n.e converts grace into an industrious slab of mechanical grime, before the porto-based trikk applies his low-end house sensibilities to benedict by stripping it down into a slab of deep yet futuristic minimalism.
