the elusive producer nortasun hasn’t released a record since his debut one through saft back in 2016. after two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named “two”. the track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: “untitled 3”. on this track, nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. next up is the antonzap remix. antonzap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. his version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. with just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.
on the b-side, nortasun takes a more dubbed out approach to modern day house music. “untitled 4” is a work of precision. the carefully crafted hats and dub elements sizzle throughout the entire track and help the track morph into a stunning piece of dance floor music around the four minute mark. nortasun cleverly introduces a thumping bass that changes up the mood for the entire work.

frigio consistently plumb the depths of electronics to find new material, and this time the madrid imprint has unearthed, in the murky currents, a real gem. tecwaa is the solo project of york based producer paul fawcett, a musician who discovered his sound in the british warehouse parties of the early nineties and went on to nurture it with movie scores, detroit techno and homegrown electronica. his debut brings together three pieces of original machine music alongside a very special remix. the menacing -the eighth circuit- broods into being. looming synthwork is further darkened by distant vocals, house percussion keeping time in this sinister opener. -mantra & machine- has similar attributes. adopting clean rhythms, the track refuses to sit comfortably in any genre pigeonhole as tecwaa weaves a work of cerebral depth. charles manier introduces the flip with his take on -fervour-, tadd mullinix returning to frigio for the first time since his superb remix as jtc of juanpablo s -dream- in 2010. a funk laden work of hip hop breaks and industrial distortion where manier explores blackened moods and horrorshow grooves. the original of -fervour- closes, showing another side of fawcett s style, bpms drop as foundations are laid bare in this stark conclusion.

mantra makes an entry to finnish proform series with his raw and uncompromised four track acid ep called “the abyss”. after releases on bunker records, polybius trax, solar one music and abstract acid under the mantra alias craig stainton delivers four tracks of jackin pure acid techno madness in the veins of true underground. starting with “next culture” is a good introduction to pumping beats and a moaning 303 while “beat methods” takes a rougher and tougher angle to acid. just imagine yourself in a warehouse party in the morning jammin to some acid. on the b-side “the abyss” leads us to the deep end of the 303 or even to the bottom of the acid sea. “singularity” ends this package with great 303 lines definitely burning up the house! a limited and numbered edition of 200, after that it’s gone, no represses, no digital, so you know what to do!

yama music return with their second instalment on their own self-titled label, with yet more trippy minimal house music. as with the first record, yama music 002 brings 3 original cuts which are stripped back groove aimed at the dancefloor. the uk based label kick things off with “outstore”, eerie pads sit on top of tight stripped back drums which have a glitchy atmospheric synth adding to the cosmic feel of this record. the b side are two tracks that follow a similar pattern but retain their individuality. the first of these is “who what space”, this track is propelled along with a bone shaking yet infectious bassline, crisp percussion and an otherworldly synth. “who what toms” wraps up the ep with delicate shuffling percussion, a tight kick drum and a sexy bassline ready to make the dancefloor hum. a well placed vocal and a synth that sounds like it’s taken from the starship enterprise rounds off a great return for yama music.

this is a reissue of a short-lived and obscure uk dance music label. a compilation of tracks featured on releases across 3 ep’s between 1991 and 1993 incorporating recently emergent dub techno and progressive acid house sounds. nation of noise was conceived in the early 90 s, following a meeting of minds between the producer and ambient soho mainstay django, and vocalist jon martin (of pizzaman fame) at the legendary soho institution: the brain. plate 1 is a fully remastered reissue of the first nation of noise record - xes noiz, featuring 4 locked grooves. plate 2 takes two tracks off both the lockgroove and super bubble ep s. one side is smooth, after-hours deep house whilst the other reaches for two progressive, acid cuts. fully remastered.

forever cursed with deep and tech-house labels by the press due to decisions taken 10 years ago before he had any idea how this industry worked, avatism returns mildly angrier than ever before with ate-up, an ep the producer actually started writing during an mdma-induced lucid dream after vakant label boss spiked his drinks in 2011. to give his poor soul some credibility, weve enlisted aqxdm (aquarian & deapmash, fresh from their storming debut on bedouin records) and the mysterious maenad veyl (veyl, pinkman, death & leisure) on remix duties.

brassfoot makes his dba debut following a number of appearances at the dba presents parties. since breaking through with his apron ep on funkinevens world-leading label in 2015, brassfoot has turned heads with releases on uttu, paul du lac s bio rhythm, and his own seminal nca recordings. on the indentured servitude ep brassfoot showcases his own unique stepping house and techno flavour across six tracks, with time to meditate and reflect between the party-starting peak timers also included. blinds down, crouched over my desk, i switch on my machines. whatever the final result is, i wouldn t even bother unless i was having fun first. sometimes theres just one tiny portion of magic after a long recording session, but its always about the enjoyment first. its dark inside and it influences the mood of the music. it s also dark outside and it s obvious where that leaves its mark. touch of loft wax 002 see’s label head nathaniel garry step out on the a-side with a club ready deep house dj tool. jacking percussion lays a solid groove as electric piano chords and deep pads set the mood, topped off with chopped up vocal samples to get the crowd pumping. london’s timothy clerkin serves up an ebm rave for his remix on the b-side, with a thumping kick drum and arpeggiator bassline sitting under twisted and warped vocals from the original. grab it. pop it in your dj bag. with the a-side for the warm up and the b-side for the peak time slot.

marc & oveous bring the classic bruk flavours to atjazz’s label with their new e.p. ‘on again’. the original harks back to the old co-op nights with a tough bass synth and oveous’ soul laden vocals, tied together behind a punchy, syncopated broken beat rhythm. dress to sweat, this one will make the bodies move. first up on the flip side the ‘4x4 dub’ switches the rhythm to a straight up 4x4 house beat, but that subby synth carries through the broken beat touch. the original mixes’ vocals are dropped in favour of one of oveous’ short spoken word monologues before he steps back to let the music do the magic. the ‘dubstramental’ gives you one final interpretation utilising the same dubbed out template as the b1, but reverting back to the original broken beat pattern to give you three different flavours to throw down with.

kicking off the first of two tracks by sondrio night train is smooth and subtle, this melodic low slung groover is made for those warm summer days. the deep tones give the low end just enough attitude to get those boots knocking. give it like is punchy and upbeat, sondrio gives you a dance floor weapon that ll have the punters up in arms. his signature low end notes drive this record with vocal stabs that will fit in any set. first up on b side ant larock drops another groovy house number better think with a mesmerising vocal laid on top of nothing but luscious chords. summer needs records like this, it s what memories are made of. ant also delivers pleasure that feels like a good dj tool perfect to break up those disco vocals with choppy chords, swinging drums and a cheeky vocal to match. house music at its finest.

for our second release of 2018 ears have eyes are back with the third instalment of our throng of orbs compilation series. this time around we welcome back old friends, and bring in some new names to the ehe fold, with a collection of tracks spanning deep emotive house music, broken beats and acid dancefloor pressure. first up we have contours, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with an excellent release on the mighty rhythm section, and has put out a slew of great records since then. dither takes time to unfold, but when the fluid acid line emerges from the heady percussion he really sets up the track for dancefloor perfection. for the a2 we welcome back chocky to the label, and he serves up a slice of weighty house music that drips quality and emotion. pickle dat kicks off with an absolute beauty of a groove, understated but weighty, and from there chocky goes on to sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning, with soulful rhodes licks and a wonderful bass line. off the back of their excellent 12- on love on the rocks, elles x violet kick off the b side with yrnyb, a tried and tested dancefloor destroyer. when we heard elles playing this in a dark basement in peckham, we just had to sign it. sometimes a kick drum, an acid line and a half heard vocal is all you need. finishing off the release we have dublin artist replete serving up a lovely slice of hazy, percussive house music that slowly builds to a crescendo. an acidic bassline sits nicely over congas and a warm, rounded kick drum.

shot at dawn is a scintillating return for a band who have been collectively quiet (but individually busy) for a few years, and (once again) sounds like the music of tomorrow. lyricist leon mayes wills the real revolution to come, morris’s uneasy keys and driving, bittersweet production embodies the uk s collective anxiety/apathy coupled with an impending sense of doom, as we all obediently troop off the cliff like lemmings, while vocalist michelle manetti s melancholy delivery is the perfect foil both, recalling tracey thorn at her best.

brand new detroit duo man vs indian man comprises ian finkelstein (of scott grooves’s overdubs fame) and even haywood. complementing each other’s strengths, the pair make the perfect match as they pour out thick viscously barbed future soul in thick gooey doses, both “ice accountant” and “cloud nine” are wrapped in foggy layers of sleepy textures as the falsetto vocals and lean instrumentation cut through with dreamy delight. remixes from the legendary egyptian lover (cosmic electro), fellow detroitian pontchartrain (filtered disco house) and brazilian table daddy (lolloping dream tech).

victor simonelli opens up the vaults once more to unlock groove committee s dirty games , the follow up to the seminal i want you to know . taking the blueprint from his timeless house classic, simonelli reworked the bassline for this 92 follow up whilst holding onto that sublimely simple yet powerful chord progression, one that never fails to put a smile on the face. add in a helping of swung hats and crunched up shakers and this is a classic by anyone s standards. the vocals - a charged up, evocative warning to a mistreating lover - fit the nyc garage house rhythm so perfectly and deliver a raw emotion to the track. next up the dubb mix kicks off with the accapella vocals laid bare in all their glory, before that piano progression lays the path for the full force of dirty games to make its impact. there s more space between the vocals in this dub mix, allowing simonelli s production prowess room to breathe. a surefire spine tingler from start to finish. on the b side, simonelli offers up his 1993 re-edit, extending, elongating and beefing up certain elements to captivate audiences all over again. closing out the e.p. is groove committee s 93 track i wana hold you produced in collaboration with glenn sweety g toby - it follows that same garage house shuffling rhythm, with soul-laden organs and paula brion s killer vocals. another much welcomed reissue of some of victor simonelli s most sought after tracks, remastered by the man himself for a new generation of listeners.
