following hammer s stand out release on loft records last year, canna gets the remix treatment by four killer producers. first up, lauer adds his trademark flavour to the already outstanding title track canna , bending the mind with an acidic top line and classic korg m1 bells.the a2 sees supreems take the techno edge off man ray replacing the drums with a more electro tinged style of rhythm, whilst echoing the synths into the back of the mix to let the drums take the foreground. flip it over and you get two reworkings of manaka . firstly, domenic cappello switches the breaksy flow of the original for a more club ready kick to compliment those stabs, in turn elevating the breakdown to greater effect. in contrast, lord of the isles dives deeper into the breaks feel of hammer s original, adding glitchy samples and oddball synth lines to take this one an even more interplanetary tip.

inspired by a fluid mix of global club sounds including uk funky, kuduro, techno and rap, nervous horzion co-head tsvi is to kick off 2018 with the release of new ep, ‘rambo’. comprised of six tracks, including collaborations with dj jm and fellow nervous horizon boss, wallwork, as well as a bonus remix from luru, ‘rambo’ details how tsvi’s sound continues to evolve, taking on bold new shapes in the process.

indianapolis band led by organist bobby watley (ex-lonnie smith group) and driven by his funky jack mcduff-influenced playing. discovered in march 1971, funk inc had sent bob porter a demo tape which languished in a pile of other until the producer finally got around to working his way through the whole batch. the band s tape grabbed him as soon as he heard the first notes and the rest, as they say, is history. a quintet, funk inc s constituent members were leader bobby watley on organ, eugene barr on tenor saxophone, steve weakley on guitar, jimmy munford on drums and cecil hunt on congas. watley, the leader, worked originally as a drummer, with both winston walls and lonnie smith. he switched to organ in 1969 and was heavily influenced by jack mcduff. barr played his first professional gig with little milton and then went on to lead his own band prior to joining funk inc. munford worked with artists of the calibre of etta james, jerry butler and james brown. hunt had been with the coasters as well as playing with local california bands. weakley was one of the (then) new breed of guitarists whose debt owed as much to jimi hendrix as kenny burrell.

arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. in his quest for a unique sound, he constantly reinvented himself, creating projects with new aliases and concepts, scraping together studio time, and hustling. even today, moores music sounds ahead of its time.
