phenomenal only album released by transs, a supergroup band project led by fariz rm, that came out in the early 80s. a full blend of soul, funk, cosmic disco, brazilian jazz and synth-pop. this album had a very big impact on the indonesian music scene at that time, and quickly became the trendsetter of the jazz fusion genre throughout the 1980s.

kawuku sound is the coming together of uk producers contours & cervo and ugandan percussion troupe fonkodelis arkestra. this is the culmination of a month-long creative process that was born out of the nyege nyege affiliated boutiq studio in kawuku, kampala - uganda. the music was written and recorded in this shared residency space, home to musicians and visual artists from all over east africa and beyond, and a hub for kampala s underground electronic music scene. boutiq studio s diy mentality provided the perfect environment for experimentation, allowing the fusion of these disparate sounds. kawuku sound is a reflection of this, merging the hypnotic and trance-inducing percussion of buganda drumming with elements of contemporary electronics and traditional instrumentation. this the first album release to come out on manchester imprint banana hill as they continue to push the boundaries of afro-electronic sounds.

well, this is different� fourth kind the self titled mini album on omniverse records. it�s hard to pinpoint a genre with records like this, produced by marc mac of 4hero and similar to some of the 4hero output, it defies genre and fits somewhere in-between many. the production is heavily reliant on synthesisers and vintage drum machines in places but is full of real life and organic movements, this is partly down to the signature drums played by luke parkhouse. the only other guest spot is filled by nu jazz funker pascal strauss aka luman child who plays bass guitar on �take me to your sky� which along with �afterglows� are the closest we get to dance tracks, in most parts a 70s fusion feel is present. the short interlude type tracks are just as important and i would go as far as to say vital to telling the story. moogs, arps and solina strings weave patterns throughout, all in all, across the 10 tracks the album is a journey of mood and emotions. 180g pressing.

the belfast based dj & producer, garry mccartney, otherwise known as ejeca, has been steadily and consistently building his sound and profile over time, through a series of impressive releases for aus music, unknown to the unknown, w&o street tracks, bpitch control and last night on earth, amongst others.
ejeca carves out an energetic slab of audacious party house on �unloving�, resplendent with rolling beats and stabby chords, and topped off with dramatic strings and vocal chops. elsewhere on the ep, ejeca unleashes some 303 bassline action and dark vocals on �standard acid house track�, which thankfully rises well above anything standard! and on �crystal maze�, ejeca harks back to the darker dance energies that were a staple of the late 1980s uk acid house boom. wrapping up the ep, �iswhatis� gets ever so slightly twisted with an orbiting synth hook and weighty stabs over a spirited rhythm section.

fantastic jazzy funk! this is the second record by azymuth � and it�s way way better than anything they ever cut in america! it�s got a wonderful vibe that mixes brazilian fusion influences with the tight grooves of a maurice white-inspired generation � and the result still sounds amazingly great today. the record has great electric keyboards, some nice deep floating basslines and percussion, and it stands as some of the coolest, dopest stuff in this genre. with the great cuts �tarde�, �tamborim, cuica, ganza, berimbau�, �falcon love call�, and �aguia nao come mosca�. pressing on 180 gram vinyl.

this excellently absorbing ep starts with �love is all right�, a fusion of asian percussion and reggae drums that is high tempo and funky. the bright steelpan sounds offset the razor sharp percussion and make for a sunny dub that will get any crowd going. the same fusion vibes continues but in more blissed out and slow motion fashion on �lawn track�, the beautiful cosmic psyche-out that is �ash� and supple space journey that is �voyage� with its intoxicating melodies and loose, tumbling percussion. this is unusual but essential music from an exclusive talent.

quasi reminds us of the mid-90 s us styled techno from the likes of synewave and even some robert hood tracks from that era, but optimized for the floors of today. on the b-side, parallel goes into familiar skudge territory, with a brooding and haunting atmosphere - twisted up with some of that well-known funk that skudge has been pushing for a decade now.

rough and ready machine tracks from brazilian producer/december collaborator innsyter (la club resource). cyn002 picks up where coletivo vandalismo left off, channeling that same wild, diy bedroom studio spirit across nine individual recordings. opening with sprawling synth motifs fighting against a steady rhythm track, desintegrado sounds like an industrial dub punk trying to channel early cluster or moebius and strangely succeeding. the rest of the lp treats us to vaguely drexciyan, subaquatic electro (bries) and twisted lo-fi minimalism with bonus eerie monologue samples (superficial love). the one recurring theme on magnetic healing is innsyter s clear love for mournful, post-punk inspired melodies. it comes across loud and clear on almost every track yet never sounds tired. things eventually draw to a close with the hopelessly romantic new wave instrumental forest shaman - a short ballad for all those weary-eyed party-goers who stuck around til the sun came up!
